What Are Your Bird Owning Questions?
I was browsing the petsmart website and I saw people who were asking questions. The public could answer. Birds are a huge undertaking in and of themselves, and their care is quite complex. It frustrates me seeing pet stores mistreat and ignore proper bird care. Wether you have a bird, or are thinking or getting one, ask your questions here. Bird owners respond with your personal experiences and research.
Does anyone have suggestions for training a cockatiel to be less hand shy? Thank you!
Both my birds were adopted. Both are hand shy, especially my cockatiel. We have had him for two years, and there has been no improvement with his hand shyness. I am not exactly sure how to go about training him, and I was wondering if anyone had experience in this matter.

Well, that depends. It took me until about three months ago before they ate healthy food. Birds are obviously very picky, so if they don't like say a corn whole, try picking it to pieces. Once you find a food they like, go from there. What happened with me was I got my cockatiel to eat corn and he LOVED it. I then just started holding small pieces of veggies and fruits out to him, and he usually tried them. I wish you luck on your endeavors!
Load More Replies...I have two cockatiels that were hand raised and are super tame but I think that I could be of some help. 1. Make sure the birds trust you(if not talk to them and spend time near them) 2. Try to hand feed them so that they can associate people with good things 3. Try to get it to step up on a perch before you try with your hand. Hopefully, this helps!!! Good luck
