My mum was diagnosed with ADHD last year and, despite listening to multiple podcasts that she thought would give tips, has found it hard to set routines and stick to them. She has tried setting alarms during the day, for example at 10am, stay focussed, but she either doesn't listen to them, or leaves them inside when she goes out, so when they go off they just annoy my stepdad! Any suggestions that have worked for you would be greatly appreciated!

I have ADHD, and what I’m going to say is, WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN!!! It doesn’t matter how small and insignificant it may seem, she will forget. As for alarms, they don’t work for me either. I normally need to get told multiple times to do something by a person before I actually do it. That being said, if I go to do something, I need to do it immediately, or else I get distracted and don’t do it. People with ADHD oftentimes can’t remember to do things easily. It’s like a computer. People without adhd can open as many tabs as they want, but if you have it, you only have one tab. As soon as you enter something into that tab, the previous thing gets erased. I would also recomend medication. This is just some things that I do. It differs for everyone.

TLDR: Write everything down, do something as soon as you think of it, and talk to a doctor about medication.

Good tips, thank you. She was on medication, but it seemed to make things worse. Now she has started a new one, so fingers crossed.

Its taken me at least 25 years to figure out how to do this. The trick is to catch yourself when youre trailing off. Before you trail off too far. Its not a 100% cure-all or anything and you wont catch yourself every time, but it helps.


Now with that being said, I have nothing for the whole 'What did I just walk in here for?' part of having ADD.

So I think I have more mental problems than I think or it seems. What I do to help cuz I don’t like pills, is to find soemthing to distract me. Whether it’s tv, or a game, reading, or drawing, doesn’t matter. Also I get dizzy/claustrophobic kind of when I’m walking through crowded spaces at school and people are coming from both sides, in different directions, and making lots of noise. It drives me nuts. When that happens I think to myself it will pass, it will pass, it’s only temporary. Or I think of all the good stuff happening on that day. Idk if any of these helped..
