Story About An Entitled Person Who Aggressively Demanded To Be Served Mac And Cheese At Wendy’s Goes Viral

If you’ve worked in customer service at some point in your life, you probably know how infuriating people can be. Recently, Reddit user YangWenli1 decided to compile an archive of these jerks and made a post asking “Fast food workers, what is your ‘Sir, this is a Wendy’s’ moment?

Even though they have received over 15,500 replies with people listing some of the worst clients from hell, one of them really stood out. Theinsanepotato recalled a particularly rude woman. She came to a Wendy’s drive-through, demanded mac and cheese, and refused to accept it wasn’t even on the menu. Continue scrolling and check out how the whole ordeal unfolded in the employee’s own words.

The story went viral when Twitter user Ivan (@heckingmexican) shared it on the platform, receiving over 360,000 likes and 80,000 retweets in just a couple of days. The number of people relating to it might seem surprising but consider this: as of 2018, there are more than 3.7 million fast-food employees currently working in the United States alone.

So even though many think of it as a last-resort job worked by high schoolers, there is a large and diverse workforce behind your favorite fast food burgers, tacos, and fried chicken.

“I’ve worked in fast food before, and have had to witness customers cause similar situations,” Ivan told Bored Panda. “The one Theinsanepotato shared reminded me of those times, and made me laugh. I thought it would make others laugh as well, and that it did. The structure and pacing of the comment were also really solid and made it even funnier.”

Ivan believes that the employee handled it to the best of their ability. “I’ve seen multiple people ask ‘why didn’t the employee just walk outside to confirm what the customer was looking at?’ [but] to me, that would’ve been the wrong decision to make if it were anything but the last resort. I wouldn’t want to go anywhere near the car of a person who’s swearing at me and insisting that I don’t know what’s on the menu. Some better choices could’ve been made here and there, but overall I think that the employee was in the right.”

Most of the tens of thousand responses Ivan has received sided with the worker, and they’re really happy they’ve had the opportunity to spread the story. “Writing is my dream career and something I wanna explore when I head off to a university, so being able to take part in this makes me really happy.”

Maybe fewer customers would give fast wood workers crap if they knew their average salary is just $13,500 a year. True, this figure is up from 2002 when it stood at $12,850 but when you look at the long term gains — just $642 over 14 years — it’s clear that the wages in the industry haven’t kept up with other economic trends.

Everyone immediately started relating to the story

This is excellent training for the young people working at fast food restaurants. You're gonna have to learn to deal with these knuckleheads because you're going to deal with them for the rest of your life no matter what career field you enter. Sorry.

It was probably faded from the sun. Coupled with bad eyesight it's still a stretch to think its mac n cheese, but possible.

How can someone be in a mall and think that they are also, at the same time, in a drive-thru? 🤪

I ordered a cheeseburger at Taco Bell once. I did not get it :-) And the guy, instead of giving a little chuckle looked at me like slime when I picked up my order, which is ridiculous.

The powers of the human eye. I got rammed in the middle of an almost empty parking lot by a guy who had to walk around my car to get to his car, he got in his car, started his engine and rammed my car. He said I wasn't there 2 minutes ago.

A couple of weeks ago, I was in line behind a young woman at Pizza Hut. She pointed to a poster that showed one of the restaurant's combos. She thought that it was for a slice of pizza with a side of chicken nuggets, and a cola. She was told: "We do not serve chicken here." She pointed to the poster. "That's not chicken. That's a poutine." She acquiesed without incident, and apologised for being mistaken. I guess Canadians are not known to kick up much of a fuss. For those who do not know what poutine is, it is a Quebecois dish comprised of French Fries, cheese curds, and gravy. It may sound odd, but it tastes great.

May I ask what part of the world you are from? In the USA drive-up windows are relatively common on chain pharmacies for picking up prescriptions which have been pre-filled.

For one thing, this is usually a young person's first job. Not that that's everyone in there, but imagine dealing with kids who are doing their first ever job AND idiot customers? It would be a miracle if you left with any scrupples at all. Besides, any normal person would be like, "Oh, you sldon't serve mac n cheese? Okay." Who sits in line for 30 minutes for something that isn't there?! They might be scared to go out there too; crazy people do all kinds of scary things. I'd be scared to go out & confront this level of stupid!

I worked at KFC and we charged for water. We had a guy come through the drive and ask for four large waters. I told that would be 5.50. He got mad because I charged for water. Another time a guy walked in and asked for spicy chicken. "Sir, we don't have spicy chicken." "When will you get some in?" "We don't sell spicy chicken here, unfortunately." "So you're sold out?" "No, sir. We don't sell spicy chicken." "Get me your manager." My manager: "Sir, we don't have or sell spicy chicken here. It's not on the menu. We do not have spicy chicken." "So you don't have it at all?" "No, sir." He proceeded to leave. We also had customers drive around the store when we weren't open yet or we were closed. He He

I worked at McDonald's in the mid 90's when they used to serve pizza. Three jackasses from my high school came through the drive-thru one evening and claimed that they ordered 4 pizzas on the way to a funeral and only got two. And guess what? The "customer is always right" (such a BS phrase) and those guys got their two pizzas.
