I've had both the shark fear and the toilet snake.

Not so funny story. Many many moons ago, in a small town, a local police seargent enjoyed fishing in the early hours of the morning. One morn, they caught a gummy shark, and decided to have a little fun. As they went back to the boat ramp, they stopped at the tidal pool near the mouth of the creek into the bay, and dropped said gummy shark into the pool, before heading back to the boat ramp. When they drove back into town after cleaning their catch and stowing the boat, they saw a bit of a commotion down near the tidal pool. Flashing lights, a small crowd. So sarge jumps out, heads down the hill to the pool, and learns that not long before, an elderly lady had gone for her early morning swim. She'd seen a shark flash below her in the water, had a minor heart attack, somehow managing to get out of the pool and call out for help (at 6am? In a sleepy country town?) before having another more serious heart attack.

mine is murder-clowns coming out of my closet at night, but that's a good fear too.

OMG - I don't remember the name, but that was a movie in the 70's. That & "Jaws" ruined being in the water for me.

When I was little, my cousin and I had frequent sleep overs. I had a collection of dolls my cousin was terrified of. When she would sleep over at my house I had to face all the dolls to the wall so they would not watch her while slept. One night, our brothers crept into the room as we were sleeping and rearranged the dolls so they were all staring at us. It probably didn't help matters that we had stayed up late watching horror movies, but my cousin got up to use the bathroom and turned the bedside lamp on and let out a blood curdling scream. We slept the rest of the night on my sister's bedroom floor.
