Structural inspectors aren't the only ones who can tell if you're living in a shitty home. Plumbers can do that too. Recently, a plumber who goes by the nickname Bfizzle shared just a fraction of all the weird stuff he has seen on the job (unfortunately, Verizon lost a bunch of photos when he changed phones), but it's clear that too many contractors simply don't care what they're building.

"I'm 27 and live in the greater Seattle area. Been a plumber for 2 years and an apprentice 3 years before that," Bfizzle told Bored Panda. "I'd say one of the most common reasons I get called is because a house has cheap plumbing. For example, if you buy a $50 toilet, you're going to have issues with it in the near future."

Even a leaky faucet can become a big deal. For example, if it drips just once per second, it still can waste more than 3,000 gallons of water per year.

Why exactly are people burning candles in the toilet in the first place? For some mood lighting when you're s******g?

"Another big thing is that home builders don't ever think ahead, I had to replace a shower valve yesterday and there was a fireplace behind it so the only way to access it was to smash the tile inside the shower," the plumber explained.

According to the professional, the easiest way to make sure your plumbing is in good condition is to make sure it's up to code. "The plumbing code exists for a reason, and just because an inspector passed off on it doesn't mean it is. Inspectors don't go in your crawl space and aren't really even tested on their code knowledge. A certified plumber will know."

Hell naw. My worst nightmare is sitting down on the crapper and having a rat come up the toilet waste pipe.

It’s a ground squirrel. How do I know? Because my friend took this photo on a fishing trip in Manila, Utah! I was standing next to her when she took it. We were staying at a motel and the toilet overflowed... Lesson learned. Anything you post on Facebook is no longer your property.

This is my wife's photo from Manila, Utah. This is the third or fourth time it's been stolen.

I doubt he encountered this in his 30 years of plumbing, because it's my wife's photo. Not the first time it's been stolen and used without permission. This was at a small Motel at a fishing resort in Manila, Utah. The manager couldn't get the toilet unclogged so he pulled the toilet. Told my wife and I "you gotta see this" So my wife snapped the photo.

It's a sewer rat. We had those in Houston. They can come up through the pipes and get into your house. When I was little I saw one once climbing out of the toilet. It was a big one too. And they are SCARY AF!!

Wow. That is one enormous rat. I know they can come up the pipes into the toilet, but this one seriously misjudged the size of the pipe against the size of his gut.

It was leaking long before that pipe collapsed. It had to have been for the bottom of the supporting strap to rust out.

I was once digging a trench when the JCB clipped a sewage pipe. What flowed out can only be described as a tidal wave of tampons. They had all been bunging up this one pipe section for what must have been years. I did not finish digging that particular hole.

Prevention tips: 1. Don't use a garbage disposal. They don't work well and people put stupid things in them. Especially vegetable peelings and grease. Wipe your plates/pots/pans out into the garbage. 2. Clean your kitchen drain/pipes with baking soda/vinegar once a month. Instructions can be found on the web. 3. After cleaning with baking soda/vinegar, dump boiling water down the drain, then tap water for a few minutes. Next, dilute half a cup of bleach into a gallon of tap water and dump that down. Your sink will not back up again. Source: 12 years using this method.

I don't blame him for leaving it. Those things are really heavy when they're filled with sediment.

I did my bathroom. I went to the local home improvement store, bought some supplies and piped my new sink. Sent a picture to my cousin (a professional plumber) and he said I did a great job; used the purple plumbers glue and all (which is required to be compliance with building codes). Not all DIY projects are terribly done!

The cupboard under my kitchen sink looks worse than this - it was the previous owners handman special. As it works I'm ignoring it for now.

I work in stage building for concerts, they sometimes have to be anchored to the ground. We use 1,30m nails that get pneumo-hammered into the ground. At one event area, there used to be a train station that has been demolished and covered with about 30 cm soil. Which means, after 30 cm we get to have fun with old brick walls and reinforced concrete. These stones shown here are some kid's sandbox against that.
