Call it whatever you wish—human nature, sheer curiosity, simple boredom or anything in between—but there is something wild in our brains that calls us to use things for anything but their original purpose.

No, it’s not so as to break it, far from it. In a sense, it’s an attempt to rediscover something that is so usual, so mundane to us, to see it in a new light, and to have a good laugh about it.

This is what the internet has been doing with Spotify, specifically, instead of listening to music, podcasts, or whatever else that you can find there, people have been getting very creative with playlists, resulting in song selections that don’t necessary mean anything on a musical level, but mean a lot when it comes to the playlist title and the song names.

Bored Panda has gathered the best playlists for this amazing page for you to enjoy below, and you can even find many of these still on Spotify, so give them a listen while you vote and comment on the ones you enjoyed below!

That reminds me of the news headline “More sad news for the Music Industry… Kanye West found alive in his apartment”

Weird Spotify Playlists is a Twitter page and Reddit community dedicated to just that—weird Spotify playlists. And by weird, they mean playlists that don’t really aim to set the mood as much as they aim to give people a good laugh or to communicate a state of mind or an emotion.

As of this article, the Twitter page’s following now stands at 42,200, while the Reddit community is just a thousand shy of 20,000 members. The subreddit is actually the way folks submit screenshots of the various Spotify playlists as it’s all driven by the members.

Now, what sorts of playlists do people find on Spotify? The short answer is anything that’s unexpected. There’s a playlist titled Microwave containing a bunch of songs with titles like mmm, the food warming up sound, as well as beeps, like the indicators that the food is ready.

There’s also a very handy playlist “explaining” how to buy shampoo from Target, which contains songs giving instructions like getting in the car, driving to target, going to Aisle 13, driving home, showering, and the like.

And I kid you not, there’s also a playlist that effectively adds 505 and 747 together to equal 1252. Five songs doing an equation. People have a lot of time on their hands, but it’s worth it because it’s cracking people up.

When it comes to Spotify as a music streaming service, it is killing it in the industry. It was reported that Spotify had 165 million users compared to Apple Music’s 88 million, Amazon Music’s 70, and YouTube Music’s 50 million users back in 2021.

In context, that brought in over €580 million in profit, averaging at €4.12 to €4.34 per user depending on the quarter. And speaking of users, the most popular age group of users is 25-34 (at 29%) with the least being 45-54 (11%), and, despite it being a Swedish product, Europeans listen to Spotify daily the least with an average of 99 minutes a day, while North Americans use the app the most with 140 daily minutes.
