Random thought, I greatly appreciate an the dialogue.

The long whiskers on the face are usually used by cats to gage openings - if they fits, the head fits. However, they DO have a huge number of whiskers all over their bodies that are extremely sensitive to their environment. It's why it's so hard to sneak up on a sleeping cat - they already know you're there just by pressure changes. Also, it's why cats are sensitive about being pet - when they turn suddenly and bite you, it's because they're overstimulated and you've ignored their warnings (tail twitches, ear flicks). Interesting things, kittehs.

I think, that's the obvious difference here...being born blind differs highly from an acquired blindness, or do you wanna tell me that my hearing wouldn't adjust if I'm loosing my ability to see???

@marty Your brain would adjust to give more processing time to the input from your ears. That's because brains have a lot of plasticity. The input coming to your brain from your ears would not change, and the anatomy of your ears would not change.

That's just you paying more attention to your other senses. It's not like your ears would grow bigger. I promise you, my stepdad, blinded at age 8 didn't have extra large ears, or not even larger fingertips (sense of feel that increases), nor a larger nose (for the larger sense of smell).

Worked for an organisation for blind people and I promise that Cat Chat and Becky Samuel are right - you rely more on your hearing, but you don't get better hearing. In fact, as sight loss is often age-related you're just as likely to be suffering with a degree of hearing loss at the same time.
