We’re truly living in cursed times. At least it seems this way with the amount of uncanny images netizens share on the daily. Looking at a picture of a cow used as a projector screen or a sandwich embellished with door hinges might leave you asking all the wh-questions. And there’s a big chance you won’t find answers to any of them.
Today, we’re looking at some of the most eerie things provided by the Facebook page “Cursed Images." With more than 19k followers, they’re posting visuals that are guaranteed to make you feel uneasy and strange. We’ll leave it up to you to decide, dear Pandas, if the things you’ll see come from the real world (*cue evil laugh*).

The first identified cursed image originated from a Tumblr blog in 2015, with a female photography and film student who was interested in searching for forgotten flash photography. She explains that some of them had an eerie mood about them, like something captured from another life. The blog creator was particularly fascinated with finding photos of dark, empty rooms, mannequins, and costumes, which eventually became common themes among cursed images.

i once had a coworker who celebrated her divorce with a HUGE party together with her ex husband LOL they just didn't love each other anymore as they thought they should as a married couple. but they wanted to stay friends so the divorce was just a "logical" decision. they said "we celebrated the wedding, why not the divorce that we thought better through?" they are still friends 6+ years later :)

The original photo was of an older man (click to see) surrounded by crates of red tomatoes in his basement, staring at the camera with a straight face. There’s nothing unsettling about any of it, but with the new caption “This image is cursed,” it became something entirely different. The picture suddenly gave off a strange feeling that you'd accidentally walked in on someone having a tomato ritual that you weren’t supposed to witness. A wave of unease and confusion washes over you, even just thinking about it.

Lol the Chinese restaurant near me had a sign up like this that said "Cat Found"
The puzzlement here is created through a picture taken with an old flash camera or phone that often has an amateurish feel, containing odd specks of light and random things placed in very unusual ways. Bonus points if it’s slightly out of focus. This particular deviation from the normal creates a sense of unease and creepiness in our brains.

American movies usually showed lotion in scenes to indicate male masturbation, it wasn't until a couple of years ago it clicked that they need it for friction, in my country it's rare with circumcisions, I think only some religious groups have it made at the hospitals here. I think that people should leave their kids private parts alone, it's messed up no matter the reason behind it (unless, as you say, its medically necessary).

I think the post in the slide is saying its hypocritical to circumcise children/babies while advocating for abortion rights. It's not a good argument, but I think that's what the poster intended to convey. And, to be clear, it's not a good argument because circumcision has nothing to do with a woman's right to abort. It's a common tactic, known as a red herring, for those that want to justify a belief regardless of evidence/outcome.

I see nothing wrong in fact I would say that other than the fact that I'm questioning where the person is with the wheelchair I'm hoping that they're using a walker but I truly see nothing wrong with this photo because they're actually doing the correct thing it's just odd because it's a single chair better than some people who slap a handicap sticker in their car and can run a freaking Marathon

It combines what’s comfortable and uncertain, driving our curiosity further down the road into an uncanny valley.

I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt that maybe when they delivered it wasn't raining. What ticks me off is when I receive a package with obvious damage and the contents are missing. How can you deliver an empty package and not know it? Is it that hard to take it back at the end of the shift and turn it in as damaged/ contents missing? That's lazy.

Going even further back, the roots of cursed images can be traced to easily shareable horror stories called “creepypasta.” They were mainly created to post on forums that discussed everything spooky and mystical. At the start of this community, users were mostly anonymous, allowing them to copy and paste any stories they’d like. Massive sharing of the borrowed texts was eventually titled "copypasta” which led to the creation of "creepypasta.”

You know they’ve been doing this old trick forever, don’t you? Basically since back in the early days of photography, when some clever person figured out how to create the same illusion in a still picture. Someone took this picture from an angle where their reflection can’t be seen in the mirror.

I had a parrot when I was younger that I adopted from a rescue. He was a complete d**k. Cussed out anybody that got near him unless you had treats in hand. He also disliked women a great deal. He never nipped me but all my girlfriends got either bit or he liked to grab hair as they walked by. He was pretty old when I got him so his reign of terror only lasted 5 or 6 years.

What differentiates cursed images from creepypastas is that the fright is implied rather than explicitly stated right away. There’s a narrative behind it that allows us to interpret it however we’d like. Afterward, we’re left thinking that something bizarre and unsettling must have happened to create this jinxed image, leaving a dark aura floating around.
