This is what is called unionizing. Women are so expected to do so much free emotional labor on TOP of their regular job and their crappy pay. I say the US needs to get to this level of unionizing.

I don't find this sad--this is just showing the power of the people--like if all Amazon workers went on strike. The suffragettes in England went on hunger strikes, committed suicide, posted themselves to the Prime Minister. And I'm so impressed Iceland responded so quickly.

As nurses in Denmark we're grossly underpaid....... a 10 week strike, another 10 weeks of "unauthorized" strikes x 3 a week for an hour each, refusing overtime/extra shifts AND approx 1/2 of all job listings without applicants from the lack if nurses and we STILL haven't gotten a raise. So maybe ALL of us walking out on everything will get the politicians to listen? Give it to them Iceland-style :)

I think it's actually GREAT that they did it that way, instead of doing what men usually do and going to war!

Sad, nah. That's how you get things done. They didn't ask Them, They told Them. Them said no, so They showed Them that They told Them.

Women have ALWAYS had to strike to be heard and get better treatment. This is nothing new but their solidarity is rare. When women were marching and protesting for voting rights in the late 1800s and early 1900s, not all women supported them. Many women were resigned to the status quo. We owe a lot to the brave Suffragettes and kudos to the women of Iceland for banding together.

It's what American women should have done years ago. It should still be done.

and yet, this is islandic story. not much to report on people fighting so united against injustice these days, huh? i'd say, the plot to separate us by so many things is working just fine.

It's sad that we aren't even close to icelands level of equality. If it takes walking out of work and home to show the country just what women do to keep it running then I will be the first one out.

Every fella on earth has to own up and admit women do most of the work that makes life comfortable and THERE WOULD BE NO HUMAN RACE AT ALL WITHOUT THEM DOING THE DIFFICULT BIT!

It may be, but what isn't sad is the lesson that can be learned.. .. I'm not even talking just equal pay.. For women .. According to the census,. Hispanic is not considered a race, and due to the wording, many are counted as white. .. I would wager most of the US is not white(Caucasian). Imagine the change that would come, if all minorities or marginalized stopped working for a week, a month.. ..but there needs to be 1 attainable goal, easy enough to solve in a week.

The key thing is that the women could shut down the country and be heard!!!
