Many internet users call Australia the land of the 'NOPE'. But it's so much more than that. Just take a look at the country's subreddit and you'll see what it has to offer.

Physics teachers defending their houses from bushfires? Check. Sexy calendars? Check. Public bike repair stations? You bet. The members of this sub share pictures of pretty much everything that makes Australia the unique patch of land that it is.

Tony Abbott, a former politician who served as the Prime Minister of Australia, has said that "Once people come to Australia, they join the team." So since traveling in real life is still tricky, join Bored Panda on a voyage to the biggest Aussie subreddit on the internet.

Interestingly, Australia is considered the second driest continent after Antarctica. When you look at the busy Sydney harbor or the impressive skyline of metropolitan Melbourne, it seems almost unbelievable that nearly 40% of the continent is uninhabitable.

The lack of rainfall is one of the main reasons why such a huge amount of its landmass is so desolate. The national precipitation for 2020 was 483.4mm (19 inches). For comparison, even California gets about 563mm (22 inches) of rainfall every year.

This arid, uninhabitable part of Australia lies in the middle of the continent (the Outback), away from the coastline. And this is also the reason why more than 80% of the country’s population lives within 50 kilometers (31 miles) from the coast.

A thousand times, yes! I was down to 2 rolls when the toilet paper panic started. To top it off, the earliest shopping hours were reserved for older folks. By the time I got there, all the TP was gone. Even facial tissues were disappearing. I gave some money to my older neighbor and his wife to buy some TP for me. While her husband was shopping, his wife stayed in the car. She witnessed another shopper enter the store and return to his car with a huge package of TP. The same shopper went back only to return with another of the same. FOUR TIMES! Stores had limited purchase counts to 1 package; the shopper was hitting different registers to avoid recognition. They ought to have told management who could have reviewed their security and banned the guy from shopping there.

It's funny how they say everywhere that there is no reason to buy any extra toilet paper because they are not going to run out of it. Yet they always ran out and had no toilet paper. Of course this is because people stocked up, but still...if shelves are empty 9 times out of 10 you will probably buy an extra pack of toilet paper once you find any.

I have a sign in my area at work. It reads as follows. "This Is Not Customer Service. Had this been customer service, you would have been greeted by a caring person who would take interest in your plight and attempt resolution. This Is Not The Case. Now f**k off and leave in silence upon completion of reading this service bulletin". For real, it's hanging there. Yet they still introduce me as manager of the processing plant and bring tours through.

No store in Australia would put this up. A worker/manager may have wished to say this because that’s how we the public feel, but business manners would never allow it. It’s a staged sign possibly by a distressed supermarket worker. Funny never the less.

This began as an online joke, but it has merit. More stores need to put this sign up in their windows. Or at least a toned-down version because of, well you know, American's over-sensitivity and all.

I agree with this so much. I needed toilet paper at the beginning of the pandemic and I couldn't find any at Walmart or my local grocery store. Thankfully Dollar General still had some. Why on earth was people's first response to a pandemic buy up all the toilet paper?

Do you think someone just hung that up to take a pic real quick then pulled it back down? The letter is 100% factual, but I'd be really surprised if corporate, who doesn't give 2 shits about their employees (which is 95% of corporations) would allow this since forbid they lose even 1 customer, no matter how awful the customer is.

This is fake... I have never seen supermarkets band together to put out joint statements in their store... No large chain would allow signs like this to be put out... a customer has put up this sign and then snapped it....

acidic comments about the cat being photographed before going to the vet. The owners obviously care about their cat and are happy and relieved that she's back. No need to assume they are not properly taking care of her.

Aboriginal Australians first arrived at the Land Down Under from Maritime Southeast Asia sometime between 50,000 and 65,000 years ago. From the rainforests in the north, the deserts in the center, and the sub-Antarctic islands of Tasmania and Bass Strait, they penetrated to all parts of the continent.

In fact, the artistic, musical, and spiritual customs they've created are among the longest surviving such traditions in human history.

The first documented visit to Australia by a European was in 1606. The Dutch explorer Willem Janszoon landed on the western side of Cape York Peninsula and charted about 300 km (186 miles) of coastline.

There are claims of earlier landings by the Portuguese, Spanish, Chinese, Arabs, and Romans, but there is little credible documented evidence.

If there is something that Aussies in today's world are known for, it's their easy-going and friendly attitude. They can put aside stress to appreciate the good things in life that are right in front of them. We're hoping you'll be able to enjoy this list just like that!
