We Transformed A Military Police Car Into A Home On Wheels So That We Could Travel The World While Working

Almost every day we used to read about some people who quit their jobs to start a long time travel without the date of the comeback. And this is amazing! We really admired these people, but at the same time we started thinking, is it really necessary to leave so much to find new places in the world?

My wife and I really believe that you don’t need quit your life, but change it a little bit. You can make choices and leave behind only the things you don’t really need (in our case, fancy dinners, brand clothes, bottles of artisanal beer and a freaking air fryer).

So, when we found an old and retired police military car we realized we have a new home. 8 months of hard work brought it back to life and now the car is called Major Tom – in memory to our favorite singer, David Bowie – and rides softly on the roads of South America.

Major Tom left Brazil in the direction of Ushuaia, the extreme south of the continent and now is moving to the north, to Alaska. In our luggage: clients! As advertising professionals, we are working on the go.

We used to work 5 days a week as almost everybody else, but at the end of the day, now we are having the best moments of our life.

How do you guys plan to navigate the Darian Gap? We wanted to do something similar, but the Gap stopped us.

The only way is send by boat. We are planning to get in Colombia and ship Major Tom by boat to Panamá (something like US$ 1k) than we will take a flight to there and receive the car... but if sounds easy think again 'cause panama police is very corrupt and Major Tom don't fix inside a container, so we will need to send in a "row row" what is outside the container, but they stole everything with some valor. But, that's the only way...

you take an abandond military vehicle and......and what? what did you do to the van to make it work for you? sleeping area, work area, kitchen, toilet/shower? how do these fit in? nice pictures, great idea, but not enough information.

How in the world do you get wifi or even basic cell service out there?

Our biggest challenge! Here at South America we are finding in gas stations (argentina, Uruguay), in public spaces (In Punta Del Este they have a awsome free internet in squares), sometimes the road blocks and blocks to find a unprotect wifi (for 3 times we've used that way...) and asking in hotels and hostels (we explain we are working and people really want to help us). And, off course, sometimes we just pay for it or buy a phone chip. Untill now everything worked, but I imagine I will have some problems in some places. So what will need is talk with our clients and plan things right.
