The first Steampunk and Fantasy museum has opened its doors in the land of vampires, Transylvania. A one-of-a-kind experience is waiting to transport you into a different world full of magic and steam. “It’s like walking inside a movie,” said our first guests.

Our goal is to increase interest in the fantastic subgenre of science fiction. Inspired by the infamous works of Jules Verne, H.G. Wells and many others, the museum has plenty of exhibits that explore the relationship between science fiction and steampunk. With the help of many incredible artists, we created an out-of-this-world experience that will immerse you in the marvelous world of steampunk. Only here, you find a time machine, a multitude of steampunk weapons ranging from a flame-thrower to a steampunk lightsaber, an alchemy lab, a steampunk X-ray and innumerable others, but we don’t want to spoil the fun for you.

We would like to offer unforgettable and motivational experiences for the next generations and to grant everyone an out-of-home experience, motivating people to dare to dream and to create. Following this, many of our machines are interactive, leaving people to discover and experience on their own the magic that is steampunk.

From fairytales to horror, our exhibits carry you into different realms, from an operating room to a fae hideout as we guarantee this is the weirdest museum in Romania right now. Only here, you can find the giant snail that homes the fairies and also go inside the madman’s prison.

I have been working in the exhibition industry for a few years now and I mainly organized traveling exhibitions. Every time I organized one, I felt that these exhibitions were missing something. So I started thinking about creating an experience/exhibition/museum which I could build from scratch and add all the things to it that I was missing in other previous exhibitions. These things include ambient lighting, sounds, interactivity, etc.

Myself, being a dreamer since childhood, always thinking about things which are impossible to do, see, experiment or even trying to live in an imaginary world, I decided to create this.

The steampunk culture is complex and this is how I also live my life. My home is not a minimalist living space, but a messy house with loads of interesting gadgets.

So combining the dreaminess, my lifestyle, and the given opportunities, I said to myself that I would go forward and open this museum.

Everyone around me said that this museum may not work and people would not be interested in it. Ignoring all these comments, we now have probably the coolest museum in Transylvania, Romania.

Since we opened we kept adding objects to the museum. Some of them are interactive, others are less interactive, however, we are getting too full now. Way too full of objects, apparati, etc.

The floor space is filled, walls are almost filled, there are some more spots on the ceiling which can hold a few more artworks. We have our own permanent artist of the museum and his open workshop is located inside the museum. This means that visitors can see him at work, creating new interactive objects. Most of the interactive exhibits were made in house, but we also have art from international artists from around Europe.

Some of our beloved interactive objects are obviously the time machine, but also other new things like the Morse telegraph, mechanical calculator, a 3m long airship, an electric umbrella, an aether hertz generator and our secret room which opens in a mystical way.

We are celebrating our 1-year anniversary on the 18th of June.

During this time we reached 20k visitors and the great thing is that we are for every age. Everyone can find something which offers childhood memories or the younger generations become more motivated to dream. Our goal is also to create a community around this. We occasionally also organize parties where our fans can meet. These gigs are named "STEAMBUILDING".

We would also like to create a small museum chain and have a magical spot like this one in the countries surrounding us.

Steampunk Transylvania became a must-visit in Cluj-Napoca. On the "Night of Museums" we had the longest queue in the city and we simply couldn't let everyone in. Hundreds of people were waiting to step into our magical world.

We also applied for an international museum award. In September we will find out if we achieve a prize. We had some great milestones in the first year and we don't show any signs that we would like to stop.

Most of our visitors are international and national tourists. Adults are the highest number of visitors but around 30% from the total number are children or pupils. After the visit adults usually say that it was nice to spend some time in a world different from reality and children usually say that they want to live in a house like this or even move into our world. We are definitely opening up everyone's imagination. The most appreciated aspect is that we are interactive. Visitors can touch almost everything: press switches, pull ropes, activate mechanisms.

It is important that we open daily between 12:00 - 21:00 and every time there is a full moon in the sky, we are open until 1AM.

It is worth also reading our reviews to see what people think about the museum.

I think I would have liked to see a lot more gears, toggles, switches and automotive parts transformed. It was a bit too "evil scientist meets evil biologist/botanist." Presentation was very well done.
