My friend Daniel and I used to work at the same PR firm. It was a crazy, stressful, really over-the-top atmosphere, so we often use to go to lunch to discuss our escape plans.

On one of those lunch ‘dates’ we came up with the idea of a contest for dog owners that would let them show off their doggies and win prizes for doing it. Daniel owns a Papillon and while I’ve never had a pet, my sister owned a German Shepard that the whole family grew to love so we get the dogs (pets) as members of the family thing. And we know how people love to show off their children and contests!

It’s been fun planning this new business and guess what? Ever since we decided to go ahead with the Appaws Awards, we’ve both left the company! Everyone we’ve spoken to has loved the idea and we’re growing so much. Everyone’s pet is really an extension of who they are but what we’ve learned though is while people love their four-legged family members, there is still so much they want to learn about who dogs really are, how to care for them and what they like and don’t like. Our blog and Instagram has been a real teaching tool for so many.

We love dogs and the Appaws Awards has really allowed us to honor them in a way. We hope all the dog lovers out there feel the same way. BTW, we’re going to be adding cats soon.
