Have you ever played a game like Tekken or Mortal Kombat, and when browsing through the list of potential female fighters and wondered, “Hmm, where is Cinderella? She could really kick some ass.”
No? Hardly surprising as Disney princesses are known mostly for sweetness and light, needing to be saved or swept off their feet by Prince Charming. But not anymore! Russian artist Artemii Myasnikov mixes fantasy and futuristic tech to create these female warriors of our favorite Disney characters, and you'll never look at them the same way again! Artemii spoke to Bored Panda about his drawing inspirations. “One night I was watching the “Disenchantment” series with my wife, and we started a discussion on what we like/dislike about the main character,” he told us. “One of the things we both liked is how wasn’t a damsel in distress, unlike most of the princesses and other famous characters in Disney movies.”
“I immediately got a drawing idea of a Snow White (because to me she’s the most damsel-in-distress-y princess ever) that would be armed, dangerous, and in charge of her own fate. That’s how the princess drawing sequence started.”
Artemii will set aside the project for the time being to concentrate on the upcoming Inktober, in which artists draw a picture each day for the entire month. He is a full-time artist and works as an art director in a games studio, but sees the art that he regularly uploads to Instagram as a hobby and creative outlet. “I draw girls, strange creatures, and techno stuff, that fully describes my favorite themes,” he told us. “Growing up, I was into Gen 13, all of the Mike Mignola stuff, DC and Marvel comic series (As a child, I was a die-hard fan of X-men series), Mulan, The Transformers, Exosquad, The Animatrics...”
While the comic industry is still a niche in Russia, it is growing steadily alongside the artist community in general. We hope you enjoy Artemii's work as much as we did, Imgur user AkitaFuriosa came up with the accurate descriptions for the new warriors on the list. I love this! Love your style! So glad that none of them were in bikini armor (looking at you, WoW)
Oops, Jasmine and Ariel were in less clothing, I missed that. But then again, Ariel is in water often and Jasmine is a sort of rogue.
Load More Replies......yeeees, but this time they are the badass princess instead of another "fashionable girl from Instagram" look! And I think they are pretty awesome =D (but I know what was Your point - sometimes it's quite boring when you see another "I draw comics about daily life with my GF/BF", "I quit my job to..." or "I draw strangers as a cartoon character" and they again all look like Pixar-manga style...)
Load More Replies...The art and style was amazing, which is why I went through and upvoted this post. But; yeah, various versions of Disney princesses..... Ah, well... Been a while. At least it's no longer a thing as frequent as it used to be. Now, let's go searching for this artist's original characters and comics.
I would like if the waist were not so damn thin. I mean a seasoned warrior will have more bulk to be able to handle such long weapons . And more blood thirsty.
The drawings are nice, and the princesses look really tough... But I have to ask if you don't mind: What's with the striped pants? :)
Is it some new trend to "reimagine" Disney princesses to be one of three options: fatter, more badass, or a different gender ?
Usually I’m against redrawing characters as xyz but this is really cool
Well it's pretty interesting I'll give you that, my only complaint is that is that some of the drawings don't actually look like the Disney princesses. That was most likely the point and just the artists style but I think it's weird that they changed the facial bone structure.
I agree with you, and they made them very manly looking.
Load More Replies...Anyone watching or familiar with fate/ series here? i thought, if you get it, they look like servants ready for holy grail war.
I was gonna make a comment about doing the males next and changing their look, but then I realized that as much as women have cried sexism when it comes to Disney cartoons, you have to admit that at least they made them all about the ladies. There are no ultra famous men in any of them except the goddamn Hunchback and Peter Pan.
Having them wear MORE clothes than the original, with armor and strong thighs? THIS is what female empowerment looks like! (If you just wanna look sexy and dress trampy, more power, but it's hard to armor well without covering anything.)
These are A - W - E - S - O - M - E!!! There are some haters around here groaning about the post, and I say to you: don't like it, don't click. These are really cool and thank you!
