Vikings are truly history's badasses - the wolf fur wearing, Sleipnir-taming conquerors that have left their incredible mark all over the world. And though one might think of them as mountain-sized savages, the truth is that Vikings cared about their appearances as much as they cared about Odin. Not only they were known for their love for sauna and general cleanliness, but also their red or blond meticulously well-kept manes, that have led the Viking men to be regarded as wife-stealers and maid charmers.

Based on many archaeological finds, such as ornate hair combs and figurines depicting both Viking men and women with well-groomed hair and intricate braids, we can make a pretty accurate guess on how the Viking style would have looked. And this time, we'd like to acquaint you with fierce-looking Viking hairstyles. Though most of them seem to need the attention of a professional hairstylist, these hair braiding examples are perfectly doable at home. The only catch is that you need longer hair to express the Viking braids fully. Other than that, anyone can channel their inner Valkyrie with these hairstyle ideas.

Now, scroll down and check these luxurious Viking-hair-inspired styles and be ready to charm your way in conquering lands and enslaving the hearts of pretty maidens and handsome lads because these hairdos will transform you into a bewitching warrior in no time. Also, don't forget to vote and comment on the ones that you liked the best!

Tried New Leather Beads During My Last Viking Photo Shoot

Tried New Leather Beads During My Last Viking Photo Shoot

Though it is quite hard to prove the usage of beads and leather slips woven into Viking braids, the gravesites are full of these little trinkets, leading to believe that some of these jewelry pieces were used for securing the ends of braids

The Braid Took Two Hours To Do So I Guess This Will Be My Hair The Next Few Days

Both Viking men and women were described as wearing their hair long and well-kept. Their manes were also known to be of deep red or very fair colors, creating the fierce Norse men looks

Last year, I had a friend make me three braids and braid them again (braidception!), I have really f*cked-up curls, and it took maybe half an hour... so how does this one take two hours? Don't get me wrong, it looks amazing, but I don't quite understand the time they say it took.

Wow! that braid is beautiful! but it didn't take two hours, unless it's the first braid you ever did!

It's very beautiful! I like the little braids inside the big one and at each side.

I have always had long hair---(natural dark blonde with no gray) so long I can sit on it, but have NO TALENT whatsoever on fancy dos. So this cowgirl usually wears a long pony tail and twisted under my hat. Back in the day when they were still shooting LOTR, One of our Kiwi friends was working on it, and when they put out a call for long-haired women to portray elves, he asked the right peeps and told them in addition to the long haIr, had worked on productions here in the states...(Western's love real horsewomen with long hair). I basically just needed to fly there, and they would work on all the permit forms. I even had a place to stay. Sadly, we didn't have the thousands of dollars for RT airfare. Every time I watch any of the films, I get a little (a lot) sad!

2 hours ? Have a look a "s'il vous plait" channel on youtube, it doesn't take her 2 hours to do braids like that. Very cool look otherwise ^^

yeah i gotta agree with you on this, she clearly has a talent for hair so if that took her 2 hours she's doing something very wrong.

This Is Impressive

This Is Impressive

Though basic Viking-inspired hairstyles are doable at home, braiding such as this one, requires the attention of a professional. Vikings were very clean regarding hygiene standards of their times, but they've still washed their hair only once a week, so most of the braiding was done in such a manner that the hairstyle wouldn't have to be redone more often

Simple But Powerful Looking Hairstyle

Simple But Powerful Looking Hairstyle

The Viking men were known not only for their bravery and savagery but also for well-kept appearances with long often braided hair and meticulously groomed beards. Precisely because of that, these men were regarded as wife-stealers and maid-charmers, which caused the jealousy and bewilderment of their husbands and fathers

This year alone more than 40 Viking reenactment festivals and markets are to be held all over Europe. Viking tradition fans often try to recreate the costumes and styles as historically accurate as possible. And no Viking reenactment costume goes without the intricate hair braids

Can You Believe That The Owner Of This Hairstyle Is 8 Years Old? Me Neither

Children in the Viking period weren't much differentiated from adults - though they did play with wooden toys, they also had to do much of the same chores the grownups did. Playing with such toys as wooden swords also led to useful sword fighting skills as they grew up

Even The Viking Men Are Getting Gussied Up For Sankthans

Sankthans or summer solstice is celebrated each year after the sunset of June 23rd. Many bonfires are lit, and nobody sleeps on the shortest night of the summer. Though now this festivity is often related to the birth of Saint John, originally it's a pre-Christian celebration

The Midsummerfeast is huge in Sweden, no bonfires since the nights are so bright, instead there's erected Midsummerpoles dressed in flowers and leafs.
