I am lucky enough to live near the Columbia River Gorge, and am fascinated by its beauty all year round. Here are some of my favorite photos – enjoy!
In the summer the grass turns brown – but the view is still GORGEous
A waterfall and some columnar basalt – my favorite part of the gorge!
A panoramic view of the gorge near Portland
A view from Mt Hood in winter
Brown grassy hills looks like suede
There are so many waterfalls in the gorge!
Mt Hood
Windmills and brown grass – much further east than the greenery near Portland!
The replica (intact) Stonehenge near Maryhill museum and winery
A view of the gorge, closer to Portland and still green(ish)
Foggy waterfall in fall
Early spring and the fields are glowing green!
Transitioning from the green of the western gorge to the brown of the eastern gorge

Share on FacebookI like to see a fellow Oregonian appreciate the beauty of our state. Growing up here I feel so blessed to have such diversity. People think Oregon (NOT ORA-GONE but OR-GUNN) is always raining. Where I live on the Southern Coast by the Ocean - yes. It's pretty windy and rains frequently in the winter with mild summers. The climate is about 40-60 Farenheit all year round but in Eastern Oregon it gets quite hot in the summer and snows in the winter. Oregon has many amazing waterfalls (as you see depicted in the photo) and mountains as well as beaches and no sales tax and lots of lighthouses to visit! OK, I'm done with my travel advertisement.
Bit different from my Portland! Mine has a wide street, storm lashed sea cliffs, stone quarries, and a mediaeval castle (-:
Thanks for the awesome photos! I've lived in Portland area all my life. The Columbia River Gorge is my absolute favorite place, more so that the ocean. The drive on both the OR side and WA side are fantastic. The people are nice, too.
Terrific hiking, too, though maybe no so much now since the fire.

The brown grass is visually very unappealing . Is it the type of grass ,or, caused by drought ?
I've always liked the contrast to the spring green. The eastern gorge is very dry midst of the year, so the grass always turns brown.
