Vegan Posts Pics Of Her Lab ‘Excited’ To Eat Her Vegan Dinner, Gets Destroyed By Veterinarian

With both vegan diets and dog ownership on the rise, it’s no surprise that there is a controversial crossover between the two. Some vegans are choosing to project their personal diet choices onto their pets with often devastating consequences, this is a choice that should not be taken lightly.

While dogs can theoretically survive on vegan dog food, the risks of malnutrition are high and they will need to be monitored carefully. Chemically synthesized supplements used to replace naturally-occurring vitamins and amino acids in balanced dog food can be expensive and need to be administered in the right quantities, and veterinary professionals generally advise against the practice of adopting a vegan lifestyle for your carnivore pets. People who choose to do it anyway usually do it for their own moral benefit, at the expense of their dog’s health. Perhaps these people could consider getting a rabbit or a goat instead?

This Tumblr post highlights the painful cognitive dissonance that vegan dog owners can experience, showing a mournful, gaunt-looking lab apparently ‘excited’ about yet another overly complicated yet nutritionally deficient meal. The post sparked a discussion about the merits of this vegan dog diet, and some of the responses are eye-opening, to say the least. Scroll down below to read them for yourself, and let us know what you think in the comments.

I'm a veggie but I'm so fed up with vegans who are usually so self-righteous and stubborn, thinking they know everything and nobody can prove them wrong.

Those are the kind of people who clearly are not vegan because they really care, but so that they can feel moraly superior. If they really cared about animals, their aim would be to study in order to do the best they can... not to show off how enlightened they are (and sometimes go as far as calling anyone who isn't vegan a monster, even vegetarians). These people give vegans a bad rep.

Question...did the dog ask to be fed a Vegan diet? If so, then knock yourself out and slowly kill your pets. Being vegan is a person choice and I get that...but for the love of god, step off your high horse and give your pets real food.

I don't have a problem with humans who choose to be vegan. I DO have a problem when they force their high and mighty views on everyone else, and ESPECIALLY when they force it on their pets! My friend is a vegetarian (borderline vegan) and she has no problem feeding her cats meat. She sometimes even gets in non vegetarian products for when I visit.

I totally agree. Not feeding your dog or cat meat is animal cruelty. How can anyone think this is compatible with a vegan lifestyle?

Once again: this has nothing to do with vegans and everything to do with the ignorance of individuals. I’m a vegan. I feed my cats normal, healthy cat food. I would correct any vegan who tries to feed their pets inappropriately.

True - this person would be an idiot regardless. Not knowing basic healthy nutrition for any animal in your care is neglect. Meaning well is not good enough.

That dog looks utterly miserable. If you want to be a vegan, fine, whatever but don't push your agenda onto others and definitely don't force your pets (or small children) to be vegans too. I really hope that dog gets better, it looks so sad and Ill.

I am very sorry, 'Full Name' for the confusion earlier. Dogs are scientifically considered to be omnivores, you are correct. Dogs of course, descend from wolves which are strictly carnivores, despite having a slightly longer intestine than the cat, (which can only eat meat), allowing the wolf to be able to digest some grains. Selective breeding in dogs has granted dogs the ability to digest select veggies, they descend from carnivores. As Heather Rea said, dogs require meat to get the protein they need to live a healthy life. This is why dog food is meat based. I love animals, but I still eat meat, because humans are omnivores, yet still require the protein from meat. Humans, of course, can also obtain these nutrients from soy and other legumes. Dogs cannot absorb the protein from soy and legumes a easy as we can, resulting in stomach trouble from the dog. Ver. Are you referring to me as an moron? Or 'Full Name'? It seems like you are insulting me because I made a mistake in a previous comment, which after a few hours of research, turned out to be not so much of a mistake. Correct me if I'm wrong, (as you did before). Anyway, thanks SO MUCH, Full Name and ver, for your helpful and insightful corrections. And thanks Heather Rea. For reals. ; )

That poor dog looks weak and unhappy. I feed my dog with appropriate food and he starts jumping and waving the tail as soon as he sees I´m taking his plate to the usual place. This my friend, is not being excited, this is being resigned.

I m a vegetarian as well. I'm so tired of people giving us this stupid image. I have 3 dogs, and they eat the best dog food ever, with meat or fish inside. I even buy them some ham sometimes for big occasions, bones and stuff. Being a vegetarian is my choice and mine only. There is nothing more stupid than imposing your diet, especially on "someone" (a pet) that has absolutely no choice and doesn't care nor have consciousness about all of that. Your labrador seems everything but excited. If you really care about animals, and I think that's the main purpose of vegetarians, please don't destroy your dog with fancy tofu human meals.

This is a quite stupid response ; dogs aren't animals that can live anymore in the wild, in case you don't know. Releasing them in the forest so they can be "free" of my terrible enslavement is called abandonning your pet and being stupid. I'll also add that they come from refuges, where their previous owners beat them, starved them, locked them in rooms, not from pet stores. Personnally I'm lucky enough to work from home, have a garden 10 times bigger than my house and woods around, to where I go whether it's snowing, raining, too warm, whatever. Humans would love to be enslaved like this I guess.

I am also one of those who think dogs aren't built to not eat meat. However, special cases do exist. I remember seeing on TV about a particular dog that CHOSE to eat only vegetables. The owner, concerned, tried various kinds of meat and regular dog food, but the dog kept wanting only vegetables. Turns out, the dog had an imaginary pregnancy and consequential weird food cravings. The vet, however, agreed the dog could not go on like that, so they found a way to reintroduce meat back into her diet.

That dog looks sad AF, not excited. I have a dog that gets excited about dinner. He does the Snoopy "It's dinner time" dance every time. He eats grain free MEAT based dog food. He does eat fruit and veggies as treats, but if you can't accept that a dog is a meat eater, don't get one. And guess what? If you die and your corpse is left there for awhile, your dog will eat you. Would a vegan do that?

What's so interesting is dogs and cats have NEVER been vegetarian. Why would one of those veggie loving maroons just assume that's what's also best for a carniverous pet? If you have a pet, you have to consider their needs. Not your own selfish point of view.

One of the weirdest things I find about all this is that "vegan" didn't start out being extreme vegetarianism; it started out as being "minimal impact and exploitation on the environment". Which means it allowed for sensible eating and sensible treatment of pets and other animals. I think that message being lost over time has completed deluded the people who do these kinds of extreme diets.

i have been strict vegetarian for 15+ years. And not once have i stopped someone or any animal to be treated this way or stopping them from eating meat! You don't want others' opinion/choices in your plate. Same goes for them too. As simple as that!

There are animals that are 100% vegan and they can be just as amazing to be with as Dogs and Cats. If you are going to own a pet and you want it to be healthy, you must feed it a diet that it has been bred to handle. You would not feed a snake a carrot, or a bunny a side of beef. You feed the animals the appropriate diet and they will thrive. Otherwise you are hurting the animal for your own satisfaction and that is cruelty to the animals.

I'm a vegetarian and yet my 12 year old dog is running around like a puppy while enjoying a can of her favorite meat, chicken, and assorted vegetable blend. And I have no problem with this. Dogs are carnivorous just like their evolutionary ancestors, even though we humans have introduced vegetables and many other foods into their diet they still need a good diet to stay healthy and live their best and longest life.

As soon as I saw the dog's face, I knew immediately that the dog was NOT excited. I can't tell 100% what the breed is, but it looks close to a retriever or a lab. 1. Their nose is not suppose to be faded pink or even close to that color. 2. Even though I only saw from the shoulders up, I can tell the dog is slim and underweight. 3. Just looking into the poor things eyes, you can tell they aren't ok. That there is something they don't like and can't do anything about it. It hurts my heart seeing the dog looking at the camera like that.

Yellow labs ABSOLUTELY can have pink noses without having something wrong with them. The color in the photo is perfectly normal and can be seen in MANY yellow labs. I have no doubt that this dog is malnourished, but don't spout utter nonsense simply because you think you know what you're talking about.

Just feed your pet the right food, it's really not that hard. I know that might sound condescending but I mean come ON, you want your friend to be happy right? If you want a vegetarian pet so badly then give your dog to someone who will actually take care of it and then go get yourself a turtle or a rabbit.

Just because an organism can occasionally eat a certain type of food doesn't necessarily mean it has to be their whole diet. You can give cats and dogs certain types of vegetables every now and then (be sure to check to make sure it's nothing harmful to them; onions, garlic, and avocados are stuff to avoid), but it's not something they can only survive on.

Rice and sweet potatoes?! These people just copy and paste their vegan diet to their pets. Humans and dogs have a very different digestive tract and different dietary needs. Now I don't own a dog, but if I had one and I HAD to feed them vegan, I would go for protein rich foods like seitan and the like. Things that are most comparable to meat. Not the starchy stuff. And if I see that it's not working I simply wouldn't continue.

What a sick person. This vegan clearly doesn't actually care for animals but only cares to be "right" about what they're doing. Sure, animals don't consent to being devoured but they also don't consent to eating, what I'm sure animals would consider, trash. Although, I did get a hearty laugh out of the second person who apparently follows Onion, the biggest liar known to humankind. Considering how much he lies I don't doubt he tells his viewers that he feeds his dogs a vegan/vegetarian diet and then behind the camera he gives them plenty of meat. Note: I completely respect the vegan lifestyle unless the individual is the type to shove their beliefs down everyone's throats, especially their animals, than I have a problem with them just being a terrible person and "animal rights activist."

I have 2 cats that need specialty diets because of botched spay/nautruing. One can't retain fat and the other over retains fat. Regardless of circumstances, they have to have high quality protein and fats to stay healthy even though they have opposing dietiary needs. Animals have needs and house pets cant choose their diets. Their owners have to take the moral responsibility to take care of their animals.

My doggo came to me from a vegetarian household. He was 5 yrs old. 1. He was about 8 kilos under weight. (18.5 lb) 2. He was so skinny you could see every rib & spine knobble. 3. He had chronic diarrhea. 4. His fur was falling out in handfulls. (Non moulting season) When I got him home I only had cat food he ate 3 packets of soft food & half a bag of dry food he literally inhaled it. Went shopping for dog food. He seemed to be drinking an inordinately large amount of water. 3 plus litres a day. Oh oh I thought, they got rid of him coz he has diabetes, Giardia, worms? His vaxxes were utd. It took 6 months to cure the diarrhea. He was so hungry, anemic, malnourished he was filling his belly with water as a food substitute. Fast forward 10 months, he's 26 kg, thick glossy coat, he loves his dinner litterally bounces off the walls with excitement when I'm dishing up, loves his morning kibble,

I have a friend who, despite all research, logical thinking and my advice continued to feed his dog vegan diet. I told him that he should get a bunny instead. Clearly an expert, he claimed that if a bunny could live off a vegan diet, a dog could too.. So.. one late night he came for a visit, i took a steak, and put it in my rabbits cage. (Note : to my rabbits pure horror.. He stayed faaar away from it..).. In pure shock he asked me: "Why the hell do you feed your rabbit a steak ??".. I answered him "Well.. it's actually the same with you feeding your dog plants..." After this.. he went to the pet store and bought his gorgeous Bullterrier a big "dog-healthy" bag of Royal Canin.. :)

The bad thing is that even with this information thrown in their face, they'll still ignore it and think their way is better. Someone who would put carnivores on a vegan diet should be banned from owning animals period. That's the only thing they understand.

Sounds completely contradictory: "vegan meat" It is either MEAT or it is VEGAN. It can NEVER be BOTH!!! People scream and holler about their rights and how they detest having others' beliefs forced on them. Why are they doing the same? Animals don't want your beliefs forced on them!

For the love of Eris, find that good boy (I presume it’s a good boy, considering he hasn’t yet gone for your jugular when you sleep) a loving home with puppy parents who know what they need, and get thee to a hospital for a mental eval.. I get that you believe you are doing the right thing and kudos for trying to do right by animals and the environment, but slowly killing your fur child is not the way to do it.

No actual vegan who knows something about taking care of an animal like cat or a dog would do this. This is just one imbecil who should not own pets. I would report this person to animal control in a heartbeat. I don’t eat meat, we have 4 cats and they are carnivores. They can’t survive on a plant based diet or they would die. Cats also don’t need wheat or milk, except what comes out of their mother. Our cats eat raw meat with no added wheat or sugars, they also get fish oil for omega and added vitamins that they need but they don’t get from their food so they are healthy, strong and have healthy looking fur. It’s stupid to think all vegans do this, again this is just one stupid a*s moron.

The dog had the same kind of resigned look I do when I know something s****y is coming my way. How the owner deluded him/herself into thinking that that's "excited" is beyond me. To echo some of the comments already made, if you want your pet to go vegan, get something other than a carnivore.

That is one sad looking dog. It astounds me how people can be so lacking in empathy. I’m so tired of people parading their vegetarianism, their religions or sexual choices as if their abrasiveness will win converts. It doesn’t. And his poor animal can’t just turn around and all away. If I knew of someone who fed their dog, and especially their cat, a veg diet I would steal the animal to save it’s life. If you don’t want to buy/touch/prepare meat that’s fine, you do you but don’t get a dog or a cat. Find a nice rabbit, they love veggies.

A dog in the wild goes foraging for rabbit, squirrel, birds, I've even seen dogs jump in water & catch fish. I've never seen one go hunting for berries, greens, & other veggies. My dog loves strawberries, cantaloupe, green beans, however he will pass them all up for meat. Dogs are meat eaters & need a balanced diet. I hope someone is slipping that poor dog some meat.

Only in a first world can a spoiled, ill-informed person think they can alter their dog's genetic make up. If you don't have the resources, being vegan or vegetarian is a nearly impossible option. I can't stand how ignorant and spoiled people are, causing harm to their pets. It's great to change your meat consumption and care about the environment and your own health but don't take that choice away from a living thing. If you can't reconcile yourself with this choice, don't have a pet.

That's the look of a sad animal that know that's the only thing they are feeding her, so she has to accept it. Is the same c**p from the anti-vaccine people that chooses over their kid´s health. Difference is, the animal can´t grow up and tell you to f**k off.

Me and my missus are 10 year vegans, quite hard-line vegans but what we won't do is expect our dogs to be vegan, it's madness. They are carnivores with a bit of room for some veggies, obviously. Like everyone has already said, i have yet to meet a lab who isn't soooooo excited about eating anything, look at this dog, he's thinking "oh mum, why have you made me this hippie c**p again, where is the meat?". The OP is DEAD WRONG. This poor dog does not look excited AT ALL to eat this c**p. To me, vegan is the religious take on nutrition. People go vegan because of moral conviction, and for them it's a choice. But you CAN'T impose that on your pets. Dogs and cats were not meant to eat vegan, so if being vegan is a sort of religion to you then by all means be vegan, but leave you animals out of it or get a horse. They were made to eat grass ; it won't bother them one bit.

Dogs and cats have sharp, pointy teeth and sharp, shearing teeth for a reason: to kill with and to cut meat with. Also, dogs will break open bones and eat the marrow. Cats often crush up and eat small bones and get the marrow that way. They are neither of them designed to live on a vegetarian or vegan diet. They both will thrive on raw meat diets- and how do I know this? Personal experience with cats and experience with friends who had an organic farm and fed their dogs raw meat from their own farm animals. You have no idea the change you can make in your dog or cat's life by feeding them the correct foods! It takes work and care to do it right, especially making sure they have all the nutrients they need (especially taurine for cats, available plentifully in raw meat), but it is well worth it.

If you are a veggie or vegan, why not get bunnies (house bunnies are very fun), guinea pigs, chinchillas or indoor/outdoor goats or if you have land, horses or cows? They are up for veggie stuff. Those animals do like to live in groups, though, so you would want to have more than one. Cats are obligate carnivores. Don't mess around with veggie diet for cats. Just because a dog WILL eat something you give them doesn't mean you SHOULD give it to them, and not on the regular. Dogs will eat couches but its not good for them. Listen to your vet.

I was called to rescue a Shiba puppy belonging to a Vegan, This lady started this puppy on a Vegan diet at 6 weeks! needless to say, the puppy soon began to have issues! the worst one was Rickets! Holy Mother of God a old old medical issue not seen in today's world where people do not just let a dog raise itself! It took us about 3 months to get this puppy at least somewhat right. Don't eat it, but don't force your idiot lifestyle on this poor carnivorous creature. The other day I was eating cheese and crackers. I went to give the rest to my Saint Bernards and they happily ate the remaining few pieces of cheese. I tried giving them the saltines and they turned their faces away from me like I'd slapped them. Why? Because they don't LIKE that s**t. Your dog eats what you give her because she's HUNGRY and doesn't want to starve. Put whatever that s**t you're holding is and a bowl of kibble in front of her and see what she chooses. You have a choice about how you want to live, why can't she?

Oh, how can the OP have deluded themselves that this was a happy, excited dog. I feel so badly for this poor animal. This dog is not unlike the chidren of anti-vaxxers; the owner/parents mean well, learn the very bare minimum about the subject and think they're doing the right thing. And like the anti-vaxxers, it is unlikely they will change their mind even when confronted with irrefutable facts.

In my opinion being a vegan is a bit of hypocrisy and lots of lack of knowledge. Human body needs meat, maybe less than a dog or cat, but still needs it. On the other hand, thinking that your carnivore pet can become vegan is already stupidity. There are here some very polite comments, but with this kind of people to be polite is useless, you can't be polite with such ruthless torturers and murderers. Sorry, that's the way I see this issue.

My roommate is a vegetarian. She is getting me to eat less meat(People are not designed to eat 90 percent meat), but her dog eats regular dog food. She would never consider making her eat vegetables. The only time I have ever seen someone purposely feed a dog vegetables, other than table scraps, is my parents. One of our dogs gets broccoli with his dinner to help with constipation.

Despite the actual story here, I'll tell you something I'm fed up with: I'm fed up with these "destroyed" and "teaches him a lesson" and "slays" type headlines. They're creating separation bit by bit. Regardless of the continent, country, state or community you live in, you're in the same boat with more people than you probably think you are. If there's information that needs to be given to those that don't have it yet, don't think of yourself as someone who can now "slay" others with scathing word choices, think of yourself as someone who can spread knowledge. This story, for instance, was essentially about the well being of a dog, not about the vet somehow defeating another human being.

Not a fan of forcing vegan diet on animals BUT:That "vetinarian" guy sure likes to rant massively without solid scientific reasoning him/herself. E.g.: "the dogs pancreas does not secrete cellulose". Well DUH, neither do humans. That does not mean we can't eat vegetables (we just poop out the cellulose part). As a matter of fact, not even cows pancreas "secrete cellulose". They are dependent on symbiotic, cellulose degrading microorganisms in their digestive tract. All in all that vetinarian is a perfect example of overly rightous bullshitting rants in order to seem much more informed than he actually is. Wouldn't trust that kind of guy for any advice...

I am a vegetarian, on-and-off vegan, by choice since I was 3 years old. I think forcing a veggie/vegan diet on a dog, cat, or any pet that is clearly a carnivore is abusive. Want to reduce the suffering of animals? Here are some suggestions: 1) Buy high-quality food (meat or vegetables) for your pets AND yourself/family that are grown in a way that is humane, sustainable, and doesn't destroy the environment for nearby wild animals. In many areas, industrial agriculture is destroying the environment and harming EVERYTHING. 2) Use less resources. If you drive a car, the materials and energy to produce it harmed a LOT of animals. Same for the gas it burns. And the heat in your house. And the clothes you wear. And the garbage you throw a way. Reducing your footprint will have as much or more of an effect on animals being harmed than trying to make your pet eat a veg diet. 3) Donate to causes like paying for spaying/neutering of stray cats. Etc. Etc.

OK, so vegan dogs and cats will have a short and miserable life of malnourishment and discomfort. Vegans that treat their pets this way can't be convinced they're hurting their pet. It's like trying to convince anti-vaxxers or flatearthers with scientific proof, facts, pictures and films that they are wrong.

Yet more confusion caused by people not knowing the difference between 'plant-based' and 'vegan'. In spite of what many people say, domesticated dogs and cats CAN and DO thrive on *properly-planned* plant-based diets with full endorsement from many veterinarians. They can't be *vegan* as that's a conscious effort to avoid supporting any kind of animal exploitation. Veganism is not a diet. They don't get anything from the 'meat' included in store-based pet foods. The argument about 'natural' is not valid here. The essentials - like Taurine - are synthetic. The same stuff is added to plant-based food. They get everything they need.

People who claim dogs CAN'T be vegetarian are dead wrong. I've known 2 dogs that are allergic to meat protein, they can't eat meat without getting extremly ill. One of the owners TRIED giving different kinds of meat and the vet had very little knowledge, it took them a long time to understand that almost all meat protein were off the table. Fish was ok but the dog has lived a long and happy life on vegetarian food with supplements. It wasn't the owners who wanted it, it was the dog that was allergic to meat. I don't know much about the one case, but I can testify in the other case that it was absolutely necessary for the dog (a labradore-mix) to eat vegetarian, and it lives a long and happy and healthy life, full of energy and even a little overweight, not malnourished. I'm not saying Vegan works, I have no knowledge about that, but people in the post above that claim vegetarian doesn't work for a dog are just dead wrong. Some dogs need it because they are allergic to meat.

My two dogs (aged 11 and 15) are both vegan and thriving. They've been vegan for over 10 years, and they generally get mistaken for much younger dogs, rarely get sick, and can hike for over 10 miles at a time and still have energy leftover even at this age. I feed them a small amount of vegan kibble along with tons of fresh fruits and veggies, cooked sweet potatoes and lentils and occasionally supplement. :)

That dog does not look healthy or interested in the food she's being given. I grew up around dogs, especially labs. That's not how a lab acts when they're excited.

Cats are obligate carnivores, but dogs are not. Dogs can be fine on a veggie diet. But it takes an insane amount of research and careful attention to make sure the balance of nutrients it right! I myself am vegetarian and feed my cat a raw diet. I freaking hate chopping up meat and cleaving bones for his food, gagging the whole time. But it's what's best for him so whatever. In all of the veggie groups I'm in on Facebook, anyone who mentions a veggie diet for cats his shut down FAST. Dogs are given warnings on how difficult it can be. We aren't all idiots.

DOGS ARE ONIVORES< THIS IS NOT A DEBATE YOU DUMB F***S, DOGS CAN BE PLANT BASED, ENTIRELY PLANT BASED, BC THEY ARE OMNIVORES, THEIR BODIES, SAME AS OURS, ARE DESIGNED TO MAKE THE MOST OUT OF ALL TYPES OF RESOURCES< AND JUST LIKE US< THEY CAN HAVE ALLERGENS AND MORE. But ok, sure vet, sure, sure vet that is showing up super f*****g late to the party, sure, tell us all about how it's not possible, even though we have plant-based dogs that have been around for 40 years? this is NOT a new movement, Vets hate it bc they make LESS, & also want to feel like the END ALL 100% TRUTH, when we live in a rapidly evolving society & their trying to cite s**t that's 10-20 years old against brand new studies. BUT OK. DOGS ARE OMNIVORES, & CAN LIVE ENTIRELY PLANT-BASED LIVES. The end, it is NOT a debate, it is a FACT. Respect that, and respect the fact that we're all different, & you can create a custom diet that works, PERIOD.

Since pets or strictly put on earth as entertainment for humans, if the human is enjoying feeding their dog a vegan diet there's absolutely nothing wrong with this. You're treating this human as if the animal is more important than the human and that is not the case. If you don't have anything nice to say to the pet owner please don't say anything at all.

All of these comments and I beg to differ on them. Anyone who wants to see the differences in a vegan diet between cats and dogs only needs to look at the episode of Animal Cops where they confront a woman who is feeding a vegan diet to her multiple cats and 3 dogs. Rice and veg mainly. The dogs are happy and healthy..the cats are emaciated. They seized the cats and left the dogs. On a side note the comparison of dogs and wolves is incorrect because even wolves eat grass and berries from time to time. Cats are strict carnivores. Dogs are not. And the other incorrect note is that cats and dogs cannot survive on a vegetarian diet. Well yes they can because vegetarianism includes cheese and egg.

For reals. ; )

What's sick is, while looking up 'herbivore pets' on Google, the top result was some b******t vegan site saying that cats, dogs, rats, hamsters, gerbils- can be 'vegan'. All of these creatures are either carnivores or omnivores. WTF is wrong with people? How do they live with themselves?

One of the weirdest things I find about all this is that "vegan" didn't start out being extreme vegetarianism; it started out as being "minimal impact and exploitation on the environment". Which means it allowed for sensible eating and sensible treatment of pets and other animals. I think that message being lost over time has completed deluded the people who do these kinds of extreme diets.

If I knew of someone who fed their dog, and especially their cat, a veg diet I would steal the animal to save it’s life. If you don’t want to buy/touch/prepare meat that’s fine, you do you but don’t get a dog or a cat. Find a nice rabbit, they love veggies.

Break into the house, steal the dog, and give it the love and care it deserves. The perfect plan.

Is it ok to feed a dog raw meat? My older dog won't eat any kind of food we get him and he checks out at the vet, not sick that they can tell. He is a 14 yes old rat terrier. I will buy him sirloin steak at this point! Just wondering if anyone had any tips. He won't even eat tuna or salmon right now : (

Yep, unfortunately there are so many people, who become or label themselves "vegans" just to attract attention or boost up further their gigantic ego, that we could safely say most vegans are shitbags. Oh, well, but I guess most people these days are. With so many people becoming vegans, obviously there would be many idiots among them as well, even if the % of stupid people in general was smaller.

This is SO SAD. I feel sorry for that dog. And this lady is SO blinded by her ignorance that she THINKS that poor dog "looks excited"!!!! WTF?? That's the look of a sad animal that know that's the only thing they are feeding her, so she has to accept it. It's like giving someone who hasn't eaten in days a bowl of 3 days old scraps, and saying "oh, look! he's so happy! it's his favorite!". This makes me so sad and angry!

Are you a vegan? Yes? Ok, good for you. You decided to be a vegan. Have you asked your dog/cat if they want to eat a totally wrong diet for them? Don´t decide for them. Is the same c**p from the anti-vaccine people that chooses over their kid´s health. Difference is, the animal can´t grow up and tell you to f**k off.

Yeah, every person on Tumblr calls themselves professionals. Dogs aren't carnivores! They are omnivores! Cat are obligate carnivores, they need meat and only meat. Dogs are omnivores, there body needs some amount of plant material but primarily eat meat. A vet should know that.

Holy Mother of God a old old medical issue not seen in today's world where people do not just let a dog raise itself! It took us about 3 months to get this puppy at least somewhat right. To the original poster, are you stupid or something? I have no words for this kind of ignorance. You don't deserve a dog, you're a damn moron. You don't like meat?

In my opinion being a vegan is a bit of hypocrisy and lots of lack of knowledge. Human body needs meat, maybe less than a dog or cat, but still needs it. On the other hand, thinking that your carnivore pet can become vegan is already stupidity. There are here some very polite comments, but with this kind of people to be polite is useless, you can't be polite with such ruthless torturers and murderers.

Based on presentation I don't think anyone would be excited to eat that.

That poor dog looks as excited as I do when I have a dentist appointment. This is just ridiculous: be vegan, vegetarian, whatever you want but don't force your choices on your pets or children. They have different nutritional demands and if you can't understand or accept that fact you should have neither. The dog looks excited... smh...

Ok, so, veagans aren't WRONG with they're way of thinking, but they arent right either. It is just their way of thinking, but, this goes WAAAAAY too far. I eat meat, and a lot of it, too. My dog eats meat, canned food, hooman food, just meat. This would be rejected in a second. It legit looks like barf, which im sure that poor dog did after eating that. Way too far, vegans.

That is the saddest, most depressed looking dog I've ever seen. Good god, do you ever see wild or abandoned dogs running around eating only vegetables??? Left to their own devices, you'd better believe they'll eat any meat they can get their paws on.

Wolves ,coyote, and other wild canine usually feed on animals that eat only vegetation .I've heard that one of the things they eat on the animal is stomach content.this I've heard whether it's true or not I don't know.

I wouldn't be excited to eat that, it looks like vomit. I make my dog food on occasions, but it's mostly meat based so she is getting a bit of everything. Wonder if the OP would eat what the dog has to. I truely hope the dog refused the food. Wow! Some people need thei head read and an education lesson.

Bit harsh Kjorn. Stupid people will make bad choices regardless of the diets they eat. Maggie probably loves her owner but intervention is essential here - if they aren't prepared to give Maggie meat then Maggie needs a new home asap.

If that's true, great. I applaud you and hope your dogs stay healthy and happy on that diet. But however you are managing to do it, this woman isn't doing the same thing. That dog does not look healthy or interested in the food she's being given. I grew up around dogs, especially labs. That's not how a lab acts when they're excited.

I'm vegan. Tried to make my new dog vegan, then realized she has canine teeth. We lost ours, therefore they shouldn't be vegan. I can push my beliefs on humans, not dog or cats.

I'm just surprised vegans have pets at all - enslaving another living creature and keeping it in an unnatural environment to fulfil your own emotional needs?

If in the process of me pushing my morals on a dog saves so many other animals, then i will keep pushing my morals on dogs, they are out of the ecosystem that demands a kill or be killed lifestyle anyway

My 10 year old and 8 year old bitches (big sized) are fed a vegan diet since a year or so, and guess what? No more itching, no more hair loss and they look incredibly excited when meal time.I'm feeding them, in addition to their kibble raw veggies and algae and curcumin, too. I guess this article is b******t, or this depends on every dog.

I'm confused? Did you not read the Vet's response to feeding dogs a plant based diet..? ...Or are you really that hard headed of a person, you'd rather slowly punish your dogs than admit fault and blow off credible advice..?

Your ignorance is astounding! Don't believe everything you see on TV. No one is saying that they can't eat things other than meat, but meat IS essential for a healthy life. My cat doesn't eat meat every meal, but he does need it, and your kidding yourself if you think otherwise!
