It would be a long haul but first you make all guns illegal run an amnesty for people to hand in guns. Anyone in possesion after due date is prosecuted. You could even pay people to surrender weapons. This alone would remove a large number of guns from circulation. Even if you think this would not work it would reduce some deaths so is worth trying. Trouble is most Americans have convinced themselves they are in danger and stick to an ammendment which speaks for itself. It is not the wild west anymore, few people are in danger from wild animals or marauding indians people need to take an adult view on this but that seems a long way off.

Do you not understand that Chicago has some of the strictest firearm laws in the nation? Only law abiding citizens follow the law. More laws will only strip away rights from law-abiding firearm owners. it will have zero effect on criminals. With your logic, we should ban cars, fast food and sugar as alcohol related accidents and heart disease kill more people yearly by a huge margin. Do some research beyond tv talking points.

There shouldn’t be video games encouraging the senseless slaughter of NPCs, because it introduces a pleasure in killing “people” who aren’t even presented as sentient. What difference does it make if I went out and did it for real? That’s one thing that shooters think… and If there were strict laws preventing everyone from guns, bad people would still find ways to get a hold of firearm. And what are we left with? The bad guys with dangerous weapons and the police with dangerous weapons. I feel SO much safer having to wait for police before these guys can be taken care of… and isn’t the problem the lack of police on the scene? It’s comparing officers involved in the shootings vs all, and I’m sure the shootings didn’t all happen at once

Because they come into my state of Indiana to buy them, and take them back to Illinois. It's harder to get a fishing license in Indiana, or to get a license to cut hair, or to legally give a manicure, than it is to buy a gun and carry it in public.

Chicago is a city that doesn't exactly have closed borders. Those guns come from other cities and get smuggled in. They are LEGALLY purchased outside Chicago and brought in, making them "illegally acquired" because you're not supposed to bring them to Chicago. If the entire country had stricter gun laws, gun violence would go down.

Yes, guns are super restricted here in California, too, but Arizona is right next door. As long as anyone can just drive awhile and get one, local regulations can only do so much. Most of those illegally obtained guns began as legally purchased guns that then changed hands illegally. Saying that restricting guns won't work because some people will still buy them makes as much sense as saying prohibiting theft won't work because some people will still steal. People breaking laws doesn't mean laws are useless.

You do know that Chicago is surrounded by places where guns ARE allowed? This is a totally different scenario to how it would be if the whole country had proper gun laws.

I'm about 4 hours south of Chicago, close to the Indiana border by Terre Haute. There are 2 gun stores in my town, but lots of people go to Indiana to purchase their guns, ammo, etc. The taxes, prices, and all that are much lower than in Illinois, and you don't need a FOID card in Indiana, like in Illinois.

We need federal gun laws. You want a gun, settle for a 18th century musket like the Founding Fathers intended. Sounds like a misinterpretation of the constitution? Well I’m just going back to the document like all y’all gun-nut ‘this is what they thought and we can’t move past that’ originalists! Let’s ban guns for everyone beyond SWAT officers (at work only), school police (strictly regulated at work only MAYBE), active military personnel, maybe the security guards at houses of worship, well-regulated shooting ranges, and some old guns for hunting with a lot of regulation and inspections. Any mental health record? No gun for anyone in the house. Children at home? No gun. Any prior felonies/violent crimes? No gun for anyone in the house. Strict enforcement. Want protection? Get some pepper spray, because when you’re a hammer everything looks like a nail.

The cities with the highest crime rates are in red states. St. Louis is at the top, in the red state of Missouri. Then you have Mobile and Birmingham, which is in the red state of Alabama. You know who else is high? Indianapolis, which resides in Indiana, a red state right next to Illinois, and where many of the guns, in Chicago, originated. My own state of Tennessee allows guns to be carried without a permit, and gun theft is no longer a felony. Guess who has one of the highest rates of gun violence in the country? Have you even looked at violent crime rates in the U.S.? Oklahoma City has a rate almost double that of New York City. But, sure, it’s the blue states causing the problems 🙄

You are aware that if someone wants to shoot someone in Chicago, they can just drive to a neighboring state, say, Indiana, and purchase all the weapons they want.

Fun fact, as stated already, the surrounding areas have very lax gun laws, making it extremely easy for someone in Chicago to drive a few miles and obtain a firearm.
