Every summer, Armenia hosts a water festival or as called locally the Vardavar fest. Going back to pagan times, nowadays the holiday serves as one of the major public entertainment occasion and has been widely celebrated throughout the capital city in recent years.
Traditionally Vardavar was associated with water, love, beauty and fertility. At the time, on the day of Vardavar, people used to offer roses to Astghik – the goddess of beauty- fly doves into the sky and rinse water on each other. The tradition of sprinkling water has been preserved till our days.
Every year, our photo agency carries out various interesting projects on the day of Vardavar, this year, for instance, we have organized a creative photo shoot picturing young participants of the festive occasion in one of the locations of Yerevan. Armenians find various ways of pouring water on this day – our choice laid on water-filled balloons this year.
