As anybody who has ever worked in the service industry knows, it can be a love/hate way to make a living. Dealing personally with strangers on a regular basis is sure to introduce you to a broad spectrum of human interactions, from polite, kind and sweet customers, to those you never, ever want to see again.

The subreddit Tales From Your Server is a place where service industry workers come together to share their stories. One user, lustfulspiritanimal, decided to tell her story of an eventful Valentine’s Day while working as a waitress in a restaurant. There were, as you can imagine, a lot of couples dining together that evening, but one couple in particular became the center of attention.

This is definitely a customer from hell story. However there is more to it than that, as this customer was duly served her just desserts. They say you can call a lot about a person by how they treat someone there to serve them, and I think it’s fair to say that this boyfriend found out a lot more than he bargained for.

Scroll down below to check out the story for yourself, and share your own experiences in the service industry in the comments!

I judge a person's worth by how they treat waitstaff, cashiers, clerks, attendants, animals & the elderly. If they're not kind to these then they won't be kind to you.

Waiters are not servants. Remember that. You paid for your meal and the service but you didn't pay for the right to boss them around. In fact, that right isn't on the menu, so you can now just leave.

I know exactly where this attitude comes from. There are people who think that because you're waiting on them, you are their property and you "have" to take any garbage they throw at you. I actually had a guy tell me that, "If you're my waiter, I OWN you." ... These people are generally really insecure and the only way they know how to feel good about themselves is to abuse people they think are "below" them. .. The guy that said he "owned" me? He was just another idiot digging ditches while I was waiting tables to support myself while I was in university. After I graduated and started a career that would allow me to retire before I turn 60, he's still Joe Lunchbox with a bad back. ... Karma's a witch.

Well I mean, he was wrong to look down on you and treat you awful-- that sucks-- but you shouldn't look down on builders just because you have a 'good' job now to lord over them? You're essentially just doing what he did, except you're looking down on waiting tables too, and 'idiots digging ditches' types. How about we just don't do that? Or do you not, live, work, etc in buildings that others built you? Karma works both ways you know.

For the ladies, when a guy is trying to impress you, he will go all out. He would be extra nice, extra attentive. What you should watch is not how he treats you, but how he treats people he does not stand to gain anything from: the security man, the valet, the housekeeper, those he would consider beneath him. Because girl, after all said and done, the way he treats those people, that's the way you will be treated for the rest of your life with him. Secondly, the proposal is not going down on one knee and asking the four lettered question. The proposal is the years or months before that. He is asking, are you content to be treated the way you have been so far for the rest of your life? It's not the time to go all gooey. It's the time to weigh everything seriously.

People who treat their servers like c**p and stiff them on tips do not get any more of my time. They are not worthy. And I DO let them know about it. If we remain silent we are just as bad as they. Some people posted below about their friends pocketing tips they left. As far as I am concerned those people stole twice - once from the server and once from their friends. No way would I allow them to get away with it!

I went to a restaurant with my ex boyfriend. We walked in and the hostess greeted us and my dumbass ex held up 2 fingers, as if she asked the question of how many in our party. I was so embarrassed and I could tell the hostess was pissed off about what he did. To this day I still feel bad for not apologizing to her for his actions and then walking out on him. Another time at chili's he got the wrong dish. And rather than wait for the waitress to come back to the table, he decides to yell for her across a restaurant. Such an embarrassment. And then at a different restaurant, he ordered wings and they came out cold (according to him; I didn't have any). Rather than nicely ask the waitress if the order can be reheated, he says to her "these wings are way too cold" WTF?! Thank God for saving me from this fool.

Being a bit insensitive to Angie. Clearly she has been held hostage in her house all her life, and this is her first time at a restaurant. So of course she doesn't know each customer doesn't get a personal waitress, and drinks don't magically appear after ordering them. Also, one must assume she was only fed a bucket of fish heads once a week to not remember what she ordered or ate.

I think in some screwed up way, they think it makes them look like a big shot to belittle people they feel are "beneath them". I bet at their job, they under perform and are easily cowed. I think they should just set up a few sessions with a therapist.

I can say so many things about this but the way the waitress handled the situation, was great! The Angie b***h, she is a sad lady and is miserable! But just cause you are, doesn't mean to male others feel the same way! I'm glad that Luis broke up with her.... The relationship was toxic and would just get worse. These rude people are somewhat rare but there has been one incident that I have found especially rude. Being the daughter of two people who do own the restaurant, sometimes I help my parents and they give me some money. I was in the corner doing my homework and it was getting busy and I was sitting in the last open seat so I got up and hurried and packed my stuff and quickly walked to the back. By quickly I mean almost running but not quite. This lady said "no!" loudly when I walked past her and proceeded to glare at me like I was a disobedient five year old. Later I learned that this lady doesn't really treat anyone with respect. By the way, I have to clean up my seat a lot so it's normal and that's the only time I've had someone be rude about it. Otherwise, people don't seem to be bothered.

I used to go to Bakers Square with all my first time J-Dates for coffee and a slice of pie . I didn’t have many - maybe 5 or 6, in all, and I always had the same waitress. It was sort of a litmus test and at the end of the meal she would give me a thumbs up or down. The funeral director got his thumbs down even before the order was even taken, ( something stupid, I’m sure) and it wasn’t because of his profession. Sad to say, I only received one 👍🏻 and I think she was being very generous!

After being in relationship with markiss for seven years,he broke up with me, I did everything possible to bring him back but all was in vain, I wanted him back so much because of the love I have for him, I begged him with everything, I made promises but he refused. I explained my problem to someone online and she suggested that I should rather contact a spell caster that could help me cast a spell to bring him back but I am the type that never believed in spell, I had no choice than to try it, I mailed the spell caster, and he told me there was no problem that everything will be okay before three days, that my ex will return to me before three days, he cast the spell and surprisingly in the second day, it was around 4pm. My ex called me, I was so surprised, I answered the call and all he said was that he was so sorry for everything that happened, that he wanted me to return to him, that he loves me so much. I was so happy and went to him, that was how we started living together happil

So, the girl on Reddit told "her" story? I give thumbs down. No,not for what happened in the story, but because I despise people who find something on the internet and repost it claiming it happened to them. This story has been around for years, and gets altered depending on when it's posted. Sometime's it's the needy girls' birthday, other times it's an anniversary, or Christmas. This year, it's on Valentines Day. At this point, I'm starting to doubt the original version (whatever it may be) ever happened at all.

When I said the misogynistic language was uncalled for, I wasn’t talking about the woman (she’s not a girl) calling out the waitress. I was talking about the waitress thinking the same thing. Especially when she mentioned how another guy might have been thinking about her and agreeing with him. It goes with those disgusting stereotypes about how “all” “bitches are crazy”. Talking about women in that way.

At this point, there have been so many articles warning people against treating waitstaff badly in front of dates and significant others that anyone who does it now is just stupid. If you can't be a decent person, at least hide it well. Keep it under your hat, you know? As for me, I don't think I am rude to waiters, but I am quite exacting and I really don't like repeating myself. I grew up in a family where we went out to eat at very nice restaurants from the time I was very young, so I have the concept of the professional waiter. I don't really want to hear that the waiter's name is Brad and how he loves snowboarding as he's describing the day's soups. Don't care. I wait waitstaff to be pleasant but they shouldn't be familiar, like I'm a cousin of theirs.

Then I'd suggest sticking to fancy restaurants. Other types of restaurants, bars, grills, bistros, pubs, diners, etc. tend to be a lot more social, making it more of a pleasant experience, not a day for you to feel superior to your peers.

He is asking, are you content to be treated the way you have been so far for the rest of your life? It's not the time to go all gooey. It's the time to weigh everything seriously.

When I was dating, I observed the potential bf's on how well they treated those around them - especially the wait staff. Always a bad sign when they don't treat them with respect.

I don't understand how people think waiting tables is a easy job. It's a extremely hard job, It take a toll on your sanity and your feet. Glad he dumped her. True colors come out how you treat people.

And "Angie" ate someone else's appetizer because she "didn't know what she ordered"? How many time have you been handed your dinner companions plate by mistake but went ahead and ate it anyway? Um, like never.

My personal yardstick for people always is how they treat animals, servers in restaurants, the elderly, homeless and/or indigent. If they fail at any one of them, they're off the list.

They talk a good show...at first. But like any abusive person, once they start to relax, their nastiness comes out. Luis dodged a bullet.

Good for the guy that he dumped this a*****e. Serves her right. Obviously, her parents didn't teach her proper manners. This is no way to treat waiters and waitresses. Doesn't look like she learned anything from the experience.

Yeah, that would be a deal breaker for me as well. There is no excuse to treat your waitperson that way (or anyone else in the service industry). Good for him.

Hopefully she doesn't enter anymore relationships until she deals with her own demons!

Sorry but it looks to me like a fiction story, all of it, starting but the fact that many friends were celebrating Valentine's while it is obvious not like a birthday or something, only 2 celebrate it.

You know this because you're friends with absolutely everyone I take it? Not to mention that no human being was ever born on February 14, or that this group of people could have another reason to celebrate something together.

That's because this happens ALL THE TIME. It was happening when I was waiting tables 30 years ago, and it's still happening now.

The woman deserved to get dumped for her horrible attitude and behavior, but the rampant misogyny in the language was completely unnecessary.

What she did was ordinary. It happens every day. A friend told me that one jerk of a woman stuck her fingers down her throat and vomited on her entree because the busser wasn't fast enough refilling her water glass.
