Always consider old pets first when adopting if possible. Young and cute ones easily find a family but the old ones struggle much more. When we adopted Yin (one of our 3 cats) he was 12 and had spent 6 years at the shelter, half his life! This should not happen...

Of course this should not happen. I'm not "blaming" anyone, although I could. It just seems that the shelter could have done more to pull in attention to him. I know they are very busy, but 6 years is outrageous. I am so happy you took him home. My 20 year old was abandoned - just left behind. I'm glad they did and I can't tell you the reasons, but you can imagine. She just passed away in March, and it was devastating. I will always miss her sweetness and her obvious love for me.

This breaks my Heart. God bless this wonderful woman. I have my own cat of 5 years and from last year a neighbor cat of 12 years who lives with us now. The neighbor didn’t even care when I told her too take care of him in the winter so I took him in and he never left. (I several time brought him to his home but he just returned in 5 minutes to us) He has now a loving home with us

I love this so much, my fav animals at my rescue shelters are the seniors, I always sit and have breakfast with the old boys and girls. I wish them the happiest life together, they will bring a new energy to each other.

My cats are now 15 and 13.5 years, both female. Hope they live to 20 at least! If not, I will be looking at another older girl also. Love older cats, and I am also older at 74!!💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖

If the world was full of people like this truly empathetic, kind woman the life on this planet would know no suffering. - "Kindness to animals is its own reward." - Patrick McDonnell ..... it is the ultimate reward!!!! ..... That is the literally truth, nothing else will do. Just like everything else, human empathy must be built from foundation - helping the helpless, voiceless. All the problems humanity is facing is rooted in its lack of UNIVERSAL compassion.

Seriously, older cats are the BEST. They're already litter box trained, are MUCH calmer and less likely to ruin your furniture or pee in your shoes. They've also already been spayed or neutered and have all their shots, so that's less medical expenses for the owner. An older cat who will also likely be more grateful to be adopted since they've probably been passed over by so many people. You may even save their life if you adopt from a shelter that euthanizes when they run out of space.

This is extremely heart warming, I have two cats, or I would, hope this helps some others to do the same, to give a senior cat, or dog some love, for the time they have left, you can foster or adopt !!!

i adopted a 17 year old guy from a "kill" shelter...at 20 he is still hanging on..my love; but he has teeth issues that cannot be resolved as he is too old for anesthesia

This Lovely Gentleman Came In Today To Learn How To Curl His Wife’s Hair
His wife is unable to curl her own hair and often burns herself, so he stepped up to the plate and learned how to curl her hair. We had the pleasure of teaching him! We taught him how to do volume curls on short hair, how to protect her skin from being burned and we even taught him to put on her mascara.

My Foster Dog Had Never Been Indoors Before. This Is Her First Nap, On A Bed, In A Home
Sundae was taken from a dog hoarding situation — one man had 16 dogs (and a deceased dog’s body) in his backyard. The dogs had access only to a junk-filled backyard and a garage for shelter.
We’ve had her for about a week and you would never know that she’s never been an indoor dog before. She’s totally potty trained, incredibly gentle and she’s very polite indoors. She loves to sleep as close as possible to me in bed — I think she’s just making up for 8ish years of zero affection.

Bored Panda goes and curates their lists from other places. Twitter, Instagram, lots of Rediit posts. If you really want to comment to the poster, click on the TINY, gray name on the bottom left of the image. It will take you to the original post. I just wish the guy who posted about thinking of suicide could see all of the amazing responses he got here. That was heartwarming. <3

After a while BP hides everything but the top 50 or whatever, but you can still click on the link at the bottom and it'll show the rest of them (on the webpage anyway, I don't know what it looks like on the app).
