But the blunt truth is that 2022 has been one of the worst years in recent memory. And many people are celebrating the holidays under the shadow of war, illness, and poverty. It’s difficult times like these that we need something to hold on to more than ever—a reminder that there is hope and love and goodness out there in the world.

His name is Sirizani Butau, and he sustained 3rd degree burns on his legs. Thousands of Zimbabweans came to his aid financially, and he's received support from several large companies as well. He is expected to make a full recovery from his injuries.

Some people can't afford not to work. My husband and I were both out delivering Amazon packages last night, instead of being at home with our kids. Not because we wanted to, but because we HAD to. We're even trying to work today, if possible. Thankfully our kids are older, and understand that we need money in order to pay bills and buy toilet paper and whatnot. Sucks but you gotta do what you gotta do to survive. 😕

I am just going to throw this out here. Maybe this gentleman gets a boost out of doing his job on Christmas Eve. He gets to deliver people's last minute presents and brighten their day. For all we know, he volunteered for this shift because it makes him feel good. That's what his outfit and smile tells me, anyway.

For us, Christmas is about giving our loved ones the affection and attention that they deserve. Human beings are very social creatures, and acts of kindness are our bread and butter: it’s the glue that holds us all together. Without altruism and self-sacrifice, there would be no civilization as we know it. And without gifts to show how much we care, it would be far harder to build trust.
Bored Panda reached out to writer and happiness expert Ariane for her opinion on how to focus on what truly matters in life. We were interested to get her take on how we can remember to show how much we love our nearest and dearest throughout the year, and not just when Christmas rolls around.
“It's difficult as life often gets in the way. But I try to do something nice for my daughter each week,” the author of ‘The How of Happy’ opened up to Bored Panda. Some of the small, kind things she does is buy her daughter her fave chocolate and leave her a nice message on their message boards.

Our Star This Year
Cancer came fast and aggressive.
He had lymphoma. It spread fast causing him to go to liver failure.
Couldn't do surgery, liver couldn't handle chemo.
He was only 4…
He was the best boy.
It will be quieter this Christmas without him….

I'm so so sorry. We lost two this year - one was a senior we adopted and only lasted a few months. She never got to have a Christmas and it breaks my heart. But we did adopt a puppy after she passed and it's his first now! All our love ♡

It’s the intent and emotions behind the gift rather than the physical gift itself that’s important.
“It doesn't have to be an extravagant gift or gesture—something as small as a kindly note can lift their spirits. Also, pay attention to what they say and do and ask them about it. 'How did the concert go?' or, 'Is your aunt feeling better now?' shows that you care and listen to what they say,” Ariane said that our time and attention are invaluable. Everytime I go to sleep these past few days when something great happens to me I always do a little prayer to say thanks before bed. This is the only time in a long while that I will go to bed after praying a prayer of thanks because of the people who lived through cancer and is now healthy

No disrespect but having sewn for thirty years I can tell that ain't a "first"; nether a first self made garment nor the first time an experienced beginner posts their tenth as "first". It is a well known fact among experienced sewists that no first garment has ever turned out decent enough to even be considered for presentation to a non sewing audience. It's not because the shirt is badly sewn we can agree that the sewist is not very experienced but because the sewist still thinks that this is what firsts should look like 😊

My mother, born in '43, used to go to school a mile away in a dog cart pulled by a Newfie. There is a tiny old picture somewhere or her peeking out of this woven basket thing attached to a smiling dog, with my aunt (older by about 3 years) standing beside. Now I wish I knew where that thing was. Plus, I never figured what they did with the dog while they were at school (it was a one- room school house). I guess it just hung around outside?

I saw the movie Monster's Inc in the theater with a group of friends that included my then very young niece who was the spitting image of Boo. Boo came on screen and in the dark you heard a little girl yell, "THAT'S ME!". Then after movie lights go up and strangers around us are like - OMG she really does look like Boo. Cut them in halves, lay on cookie tray, drizzle with oil, salt and pepper and garlic powder if desired and roast for 15 to 20 minutes at 375 degrees (I use the toaster oven). Shake up the pan at 10 minutes cooking time so they don't stick. They are soooooo tasty this way!

As we're covered recently on Bored Panda, gifts aren't essential for happy and healthy relationships. Though, if you're with someone who places a lot of importance on them, you can use the act of gift-giving as a way to show that you care about them and that you understand what they value.
Far more important than all of this, however, is helping the people you care about feel loved, understood, appreciated, wanted, and respected.

When my grandma passed we arrived for the viewing and my brother said I brought Bob, and held up his hand showing one of unc's rings and I replied teary with I have Vicki, and placed my hand on my chest where her pendant was. Neither of us knew the other was doing it. Bob and Vicki are our uncle and aunt that our grands buried well before they should have had too.

We moved from pa. to Florida 1973 and we were lucky to get a tree we made a star cut from cardboard covered with tin foil and cut the manger scene from a card we received and glued it on. Has been on our tree for almost 50 years. Just love unwrapping it every year.

If they have already discussed getting married, and both are on the same page, then hell ya, congratulations. If not, then no don't ruin Christmas by trying to peer pressure someone in making a lifelong decision on the spot. If they say yes, they'll look bad for changing their mind, if they say no, they'll look like a jerk and if they say yes and continue through it, they may get trapped in a marriage they didn't want.

i dont know why you were downvoted. this is 1000% true. there's pressure to have a "perfect christmas" which could lead to a false yes, & if she says no, it'll make christmas a painful time for both of them, possibly for years to come as it's such a serious relationship. propose on a day that doesn't hold significance so it can't be tainted. making a new special occasion is better than hijacking one that already exists & risking hurt feelings all around.

My grandkids love their nails being painted. Two boys who are 9 and 7 and the youngest who is two always comes to my daughter with her hands out for her fingernails to be done as well. My son in law has changed so much from the very rigid stance of only boys toys for the boys. I had gotten dolls for my grandkids and made clothes for the dolls and my grandsons really liked playing with them. When their dad found out he went nuts. I told him that in my home toys are gender free so if they want to play with dolls that's fine by me.

Forever Home For Christmas
This here is Ebony, she’s approximately 3 months old and is a lab mix. She was my gift to my parents for Christmas I have two dogs already bag home, they’re both 10 years old but they’re not doing good. One of them developed diabetes and the other one has been throwing up (we’re taking her to vet ASAP). We’re hoping that some of the habits behind our dogs will rub off onto our newest family member. They do that as a friendly reminder for you to leave them a holiday bonus. (Obviously it's not mandatory, but it's a nice gesture.) We always make sure the trash, recycling, mail carrier, and paper delivery people get something (cash). They work really hard and don't always get a whole lot of (well deserved) respect.

I hope i don't sound Bad and i know, house prices in Amerika (i assume it is USA) are different than in europe, but how can one get enough money in four years from being homeless to homeowner? Like, my Partner and me would have to work 30 years minimum, pay more than half of Our income monthly to just pay the loan to buy an old house (away from bigger cities) - which means you have to spend a lot more money to renovate and so on. edit: i wonder if there is a secret i am missing because a house would mean a more secure future maybe...

Wish I could enlighten you on what makes it wholesome but I can't. I can explain why the police station is left behind and why this person made a point to post it. We, Americans, live in what is referred to as a police state. Basically, it's the police versus the citizens. The police are trained to think this way and can't be held responsible for the crimes they commit against citizens like murder. The laws that govern the responsibility of the the police are not to protect or render aid to citizens, only to protect personnel property. The rule for citizens is never talk to the police. Always ask for a lawyer first. If you can, watch the YouTube video Never Talk to the Police. Very insightful.

I'm hoping the pets were well thought out and only the adoption itself was timed for Christmas. My son got to adopt a kitten for Christmas, but adding another pet to out family was something I decided on months ago.
