Imagine you are driving along, minding your own business, when the dreaded “strange” sounds start to emanate from your vehicle. Or perhaps the “check engine” light comes on. The pain of finding out what is wrong coupled with the pain of paying to fix it means most people bring their vehicles in way too late.

The “Just Rolled Into The Shop” online group is dedicated to the craziest and most absurd things mechanics have seen people bring them. So get comfortable as you scroll through, consider getting your vehicle looked at, upvote your favorites and be sure to share your thoughts online.

Hopefully, it was a case of ‘it was cold, and the car was warm so the kitten snuck in’… but it’s more likely the man was looking to get rid of the kitten. At the very least, he didn’t abandon the dear on the side of the road.

An opossum gave birth under our house for 3-4 years. On the final entrance, she died. We could tell pretty quickly. We hired a guy for $100 to get the animal out and take it to the dump. We could hear him dry-heaving and gagging, so he earned every cent. I was happy I was disabled and couldn't do it myself, lol.

The truth is, normal wear and tear can (and will), over time break something in your car. After all, even home appliances under normal use break down and your blender doesn’t spend hours flying down a highway. This is why, as with one’s health, preemptive and preventive measures are often smart then explicitly waiting for something to break

As they are the main point of contact with the road, naturally, the tires tend to be the first to go. If you live in a place with a lot of ice and snow in winter, you have the wonderful opportunity every year to pay to get winter tires installed.

On the flipside, this does mean that an expert gives your tires a once over at least yearly, so you have someone to tell you it’s time for a new set. That being said, like anything car related, it gets expensive so most people prefer to wait way too long, as the examples here show. Once you add on the fact that some mechanics will take you for a ride, people’s anxiety becomes a bit more understandable.

It's a "trick" that independent owners use to get every drop out of their inground tanks. I worked for an old boy who did that regularly. They used dark colored garden hoses to add a few hundred gallons of water to raise the fuel level.

As with anything else, the main moving parts are the first to go. This is why some car experts believe that getting your transmission and batteries checked is a good idea from time to time. On the other hand, again like when one visits a doctor, it’s best to not lie to the person who is going to be doing the fixing, otherwise you’ll end up with the main issues overlooked.

At the same time, while it’s important to not be the sort of car-owner you see here, it also helps to do your due diligence when picking a mechanic. While there might be hundreds of garages out there, not every person working in them is an actually certified expert who knows exactly how to fix what you have.

Actually, it was probably underinflated. The tire heats up and the belts separate and the tire blows with the belts tearing stuff up along the way.

Armadillos are incredibly stupid. They won’t find food in a trap, you have to literally make a path for them they have to follow to get there. They just wonder around until they find something to eat. They are destructive.

I had to (medically) stop driving 25 years ago so when my wife told me the cost of an oil change, I gasped. But preventative maintenance is crucial. I learned the PMCS in the army.

That is what I would want my engine to look like. Not my ex though. He could change a tire. However knew nothing else. Drove cars till they were dead. No oil changes. Never mind other fluids. Didn't know why the steering wheel was hard to turn. Unfortunately I'm a girl nobody would show me just loosen the screw. No definition of which one.

This isn’t just to ensure that the cars roaring down the highway are safe (although that is a big part of it), but also to ensure that when repairs are done, they are conducted in an environmentally friendly way. If you are in the US, the EPA provides courses and certifications for car repair specialists to that effect.

If only it was *just* a rim. The real damage is all the undercarriage. Looks like they've damage a lot of the exhaust system, wiring harness, bumper, maybe even chassis and drivetrain.

So when you are swapping stories of untrustworthy mechanics (which do exist, there is no use denying it) just remember that many of them do work hard and honestly. It’s a physically demanding job with lots of exposure to toxic chemicals. So perhaps don’t be like the folks in this list, get your car checked when it’s still in good condition.

It was a dual-axle trailer, presumably with torsion axles and not some sort of walking beam setup. As long as the load rating of the remaining tire on that side was not exceeded nothing catastrophic would have happened. Still, checking your mirrors now and then should be mandatory.

I'm in the USA, and people are so careless with guns it makes me sick. I'm surprised the gun violence rates and accidental shootings/deaths aren't ever higher, considering the carelessness I have personally witnessed. Men carrying a loaded gun in a loose pants waistband, practically falling out. I've stood in line by people and could have totally grabbed their gun, if I wanted. Thank goodness a child wasn't there.

And also yes, I'm definitely going to be getting a different class of ad after checking that. The lengthy, detailed and frankly hilarious review I read was not complimentary about the Drilldo experience, but did say the drill itself seems like a perfectly decent power tool. I think it's a rebadged power screwdriver rather than a drill though. It looks a risky toy as it is; with 1200 rpm or so I... Well, I'm not gonna kink shame, you do you, but *I* wouldn't go there.

For quite some time, my Dad had what I would refer to as a "tool addiction." He does build custom homes and requires quality tools for such, understandable. Before he sold his house, if you were 'lucky' enough to be shown his workshop in the garage, and saw all his tools, one would think he was mechanic. He could do the basics and probably a little more, with the help of YouTube, but no where close to a mechanic. He would always tell me anytime he used any of the tools he had, not typical to his workday. "See if I didn't have that particular tool, I couldn't have done this." It was funny, at times, plus I also have the cutest, yes cutest Snap On mini toolbox in blue. It's currently being used as a jewelry box. It's a genuine Snap On my Dad ordered, but it never got delivered. The seller sent out another to replace it. About a month later, original shows up and seller said to keep it. Sometimes I tell my car buddies that I too have a Snap On tool box, which is 100% fact. 🤣

With all of the old-car nostalgia ... "They don't build them like they used to" and all that ... actually cars are much better built now. When I was a child (I was six in 1960) it really WAS incredible for a car to reach 100,000 miles. Most cars rarely reached 80,000 miles - they were junk at that mileage. The average person bought a new car every three years, with three year's financing.

I truly believe that the timing chains were programmed to fail at the 60k mark, particularly in Pontiacs. Back in those days the motors were unique to the brand and Pontiacs were notorious for requiring timing chain, gear and sprocket at the 60k mark. Once those were changed, the motors would run for a very long time, typically out lasting the transmission.

By the wording of the letter, it is not that a specific car made it 100 000 miles, it's that the person drove 100 000 miles in Pontiac vehicles. She is a loyal customer of Pontiac. Just saying. :)

Ok, my search history took one for the team checking the Drilldo but someone else can... Oh f**k it. [5 mins later] Well, my Google ads are *really* going to take some explaining now. This is synthetic urine claimed by the manufacturer as being for sex play, but it's also sold by some weed shops (pun intended, sorry) and there's a YouTube video on how to use it to pass a d**g test. Incidentally, a prosthetic penis accessory called the Whizzinator is also available. What you choose to do with this information is between you and your partner and/or lawyer.

If it's drivers seat, yeah it's dumb. If it's passenger seat it's possible that it's to stop the car pinging warnings (or refusing to start) when you have something moderately heavy (but not a person) on the passenger seat. Or the sensor could be busted and it goes off even with *nothing* in the passenger seat.

My mum used to be a casualty (A&E) nurse. She saw many many terrible accidents and deaths from car accidents before seat belts came into use in the country. Faces through windscreens, impalings from steering columns, snapped backwards legs. Guess some macho types would rather this than be called a pussy for wearing a belt.

Embarrassed to admit...was going on a trip and had the car up to rotate tires which I hadn't done for a while. Lugs off, reach back to pull tire off disc...lacerate my hand on steel belt. Tire looked just like that. So...$450 repair on ball joints(x4) + $600 for tires.

This can happen very quickly if your alignment is off. I bought $850 snow tires for my car in November and by January one tire was so badly worn I had to get 4 new tires because my car is AWD.

I know from having owned AWD vehicles that yes, all 4 tires should be the same. But in your case if you just bought these tires a couple months prior and only one is worn out badly, couldn't you just buy the same tire again, but only replace the one that needed it?? So if you got a flat tire, would you go out and buy 4 new ones to replace the 1 flat? Maybe I misunderstood your comment? Lol

This looks like it could be inside a USPS mail truck. I was rural carrier and unfortunately have driven too many of those shìt boxes on wheels. I was born in the mid 80s and some of the trucks I drove were made in the early 90's, they had so many issues constantly. I drove one in particular that had a note similar to this one, except that it wouldn't always stay in park after putting it in park. I think many trucks have had similar issues and it's part of the reason they taught us to ALWAYS turn your wheel, usually towards the right, everytime you parked, regardless of there being a hill or not. Every single truck had multiple issues but yet they keep dumping $ in to temporarily "fix" them. 🤦‍♀️

nah, its on 4 seperate lifts. For long vehicles you use these as they lift the wheels and not the body/chassis. when the long vehicle lifts aren't in use they can be wheeled into a corner as the bottom are like pallet trucks/hand lifts. the lifts are linked wirelessly so they lift at the same rate. probably used more on light otr trucks and small flat bed pick ups as they dont work on normal lifts due to the centre of balance being off

Economics has a lot to do with scenes like this. "Got to get new tires real soon but don't have the dough." Yet, a blowout at 65 mph on the windy highway or trying to stop quickly behind the fully packed schoolbus will be more economically and emotionally costly than 4 brand new Bridgestones.

Over inflation. Some people think fuel mileage increases by over inflating the tires. It was actually recommended by old timey wrenches to improve bias belted tire life and fuel mileage.

I don't understand why people comment negative things about this. The guy obviously was about to replace his tires, so before coming in to the shop he did a burn-out. As long as he did not do it where he would inconvenience people, that is totally OK. I imagine before the burn out the tires were OK but just needed to be changed without being "slick". That car does not look like it's driver would use it with worn out tires.

Does the car have a usb port? You can listen to songs on a flash drive. If the number is wrong check to see if you're in the "root" folder (which should show all ) or a subfolder (which would only show the number of songs in that folder).

It's not impossible that other lunatics somewhere did 6 wheel conversions, but the only factory-built truck version was an entirely conventional ute built in Iran. You know ... a bit of tech. Making an engine be silent either increases flow resistance, or takes some volume and weight. On a very lightweight motorcycle, I can somewhat understand that silence can't be the priority, because weight just sucks. A motorcycle that is heavy, is no fun to ride, and when you're fighting for every gram to remove, it may result in a few dB more ... but on a car, even an extreme light one, that weight doesn't really matter, and how you employ the machine also influences how much noise it creates. Cars have no excuse, motorcycles only a very limited bit. Purposefully making it louder, rather than accepting it as a side effect, is just stupid, and ... well, see above. Still have an electric starter, a battery, then don't expect mercy. Also, illegally loud vehicles that can't outrun police are expensive AF!

A stop at Ace Hardware for a 99 cent C clip and it's all good. Got me an almost new $1000 jack for the cost of a retaining clip.

No shop would throw away, well, no shop managed by professionals, those are Snap-on torque wrenches, around $300 each. They are made to be recalibrated periodically.

    Ken Beattie

Snap-on torque wrenches. You can adjust the amount of torque on them so they tighten to a specific tightness. That's what the calibration refers to. It means they can't trust them to tighten to *exactly* the right amount any more. But the average person would love them (they are super expensive).

The whole body doesn't come off man. It's got an engine cover the same size as a normal Mclaren "hood" that's held down by only 4 screws.
