Someone Came With A Car And This Was In The Trunk. He Said We Can Keep Everything From Inside The Car. I'm Definitely Keeping It
Hopefully, it was a case of ‘it was cold, and the car was warm so the kitten snuck in’… but it’s more likely the man was looking to get rid of the kitten. At the very least, he didn’t abandon the dear on the side of the road.

The truth is, normal wear and tear can (and will), over time break something in your car. After all, even home appliances under normal use break down and your blender doesn’t spend hours flying down a highway. This is why, as with one’s health, preemptive and preventive measures are often smart then explicitly waiting for something to break.
As they are the main point of contact with the road, naturally, the tires tend to be the first to go. If you live in a place with a lot of ice and snow in winter, you have the wonderful opportunity every year to pay to get winter tires installed.

AWW, I hope that you were able to adopt this dear sweet little boy kitty 😻💖
On the flipside, this does mean that an expert gives your tires a once over at least yearly, so you have someone to tell you it’s time for a new set. That being said, like anything car related, it gets expensive so most people prefer to wait way too long, as the examples here show. Once you add on the fact that some mechanics will take you for a ride, people’s anxiety becomes a bit more understandable.

Who paid for it? I'd hope the retailer or their insurance.

As with anything else, the main moving parts are the first to go. This is why some car experts believe that getting your transmission and batteries checked is a good idea from time to time. On the other hand, again like when one visits a doctor, it’s best to not lie to the person who is going to be doing the fixing, otherwise you’ll end up with the main issues overlooked.

At the same time, while it’s important to not be the sort of car-owner you see here, it also helps to do your due diligence when picking a mechanic. While there might be hundreds of garages out there, not every person working in them is an actually certified expert who knows exactly how to fix what you have.
This Is Not What I Was Expecting When The Customer Said “The Tire Exploded And There Are Wires Showing”
I found more photos but cant pist them here. tire exploded and the flapping of the tread tore the bumper off, damaged the fender, and grabbed and pulled the wiring harness out of the car. the wiring is wrapped all around the tire.
Just how? Did they have it inflated to something like triple the pressure? 0_O
Actually, it was probably underinflated. The tire heats up and the belts separate and the tire blows with the belts tearing stuff up along the way.

I have 346,000 on a 16 year old Toyota Sienna. Unfortunately, my daughter ran it into a dump truck so it isn't long for this world.
That is what I would want my engine to look like. Not my ex though. He could change a tire. However knew nothing else. Drove cars till they were dead. No oil changes. Never mind other fluids. Didn't know why the steering wheel was hard to turn. Unfortunately I'm a girl nobody would show me just loosen the screw. No definition of which one.
This isn’t just to ensure that the cars roaring down the highway are safe (although that is a big part of it), but also to ensure that when repairs are done, they are conducted in an environmentally friendly way. If you are in the US, the EPA provides courses and certifications for car repair specialists to that effect.

So when you are swapping stories of untrustworthy mechanics (which do exist, there is no use denying it) just remember that many of them do work hard and honestly. It’s a physically demanding job with lots of exposure to toxic chemicals. So perhaps don’t be like the folks in this list, get your car checked when it’s still in good condition.
Customers Really Make Me Question Life……
Volvo tech here, customer comes in and complains my iPhone charger will not plug in the charging socket for 2nd row. They are not normal and look to be Swedish. Did you guys forget to change the plugs for a USA car??? She was really trying to plug a wall socket into 2 USB-C sockets. Husband couldn’t figure it out either. These people are among us!! Be careful out there.
It seems pretty dumb, but with that design I can understand the mistake. Some vehicles do have an outlet like the wall ones.
Seems like why most USB sockets are designed with the sockets above each other and aligned horizontally. Can't make that mistake with that configuration.

Load More Replies...I'm actually curious about this now. I know that forging using steel cable will, with proper technique, create a scale pattern damascus. I wonder if you could do the same with the steel belts from inside a tire.
It was a dual-axle trailer, presumably with torsion axles and not some sort of walking beam setup. As long as the load rating of the remaining tire on that side was not exceeded nothing catastrophic would have happened. Still, checking your mirrors now and then should be mandatory.

That's A First For Me, Loaded With An Extra Mag Next To It. These People Shouldn't Be Allowed To Own Guns
Our local police went on the news to remind people to lock their cars at night, and maybe not leave their guns. They reported a crazy # of guns stolen out of cars (US Midwest)
If guns are stolen, the negligent owner should be charged as an accessory to what ever crime the gun was used in. Similar to what people that forget to lock their cars get charged.

Well, at least the gun isn't in the house where the kids can play with it.
Ah but apparently it's thier constitutional tight to be idiots with guns. Lol. But just wow. Oh, man. Loading up my box is probably going to be a bewildering day. If you're not in the trades, it's hard to understand. That box contains your hands, eyes, and knowledge gained over a very long time.
For quite some time, my Dad had what I would refer to as a "tool addiction." He does build custom homes and requires quality tools for such, understandable. Before he sold his house, if you were 'lucky' enough to be shown his workshop in the garage, and saw all his tools, one would think he was mechanic. He could do the basics and probably a little more, with the help of YouTube, but no where close to a mechanic. He would always tell me anytime he used any of the tools he had, not typical to his workday. "See if I didn't have that particular tool, I couldn't have done this." It was funny, at times, plus I also have the cutest, yes cutest Snap On mini toolbox in blue. It's currently being used as a jewelry box. It's a genuine Snap On my Dad ordered, but it never got delivered. The seller sent out another to replace it. About a month later, original shows up and seller said to keep it. Sometimes I tell my car buddies that I too have a Snap On tool box, which is 100% fact. 🤣
It's their tools. Mechanic can be a bit fetishistic about their tools, the Snap-On brand in particular. We're probably looking at tens of thousands of dollars' worth.

A Letter From Gm To My Great Aunt
100,000 miles was really f*****g far back in 1960
Load More Replies...With all of the old-car nostalgia ... "They don't build them like they used to" and all that ... actually cars are much better built now. When I was a child (I was six in 1960) it really WAS incredible for a car to reach 100,000 miles. Most cars rarely reached 80,000 miles - they were junk at that mileage. The average person bought a new car every three years, with three year's financing.
I truly believe that the timing chains were programmed to fail at the 60k mark, particularly in Pontiacs. Back in those days the motors were unique to the brand and Pontiacs were notorious for requiring timing chain, gear and sprocket at the 60k mark. Once those were changed, the motors would run for a very long time, typically out lasting the transmission.

Wtf Is This Shi**?! Some Weirdos Out Here…and Why Keep This In Your Car Door?????????? 😂😂🤢🤢
Ok, my search history took one for the team checking the Drilldo but someone else can... Oh f**k it. [5 mins later] Well, my Google ads are *really* going to take some explaining now. There’s No Way Wearing Your Seat Belt Is Bad Enough To Actually Have To Buy One Of These
I'd be dead without my seat harness. Ain't playing chicken. Crashes are deadly.
If it's drivers seat, yeah it's dumb. If it's passenger seat it's possible that it's to stop the car pinging warnings (or refusing to start) when you have something moderately heavy (but not a person) on the passenger seat. Or the sensor could be busted and it goes off even with *nothing* in the passenger seat.

My Mechanic Just Sent Me The Picture Of My Tire
Embarrassed to admit...was going on a trip and had the car up to rotate tires which I hadn't done for a while. Lugs off, reach back to pull tire off disc...lacerate my hand on steel belt. Tire looked just like that. So...$450 repair on ball joints(x4) + $600 for tires.
This can happen very quickly if your alignment is off. I bought $850 snow tires for my car in November and by January one tire was so badly worn I had to get 4 new tires because my car is AWD.
I know from having owned AWD vehicles that yes, all 4 tires should be the same. But in your case if you just bought these tires a couple months prior and only one is worn out badly, couldn't you just buy the same tire again, but only replace the one that needed it?? So if you got a flat tire, would you go out and buy 4 new ones to replace the 1 flat? Maybe I misunderstood your comment? Lol

If You French Fry When You Should Pizza, You're Gonna Have A Bad Time
This looks like it could be inside a USPS mail truck. I was rural carrier and unfortunately have driven too many of those shìt boxes on wheels. I was born in the mid 80s and some of the trucks I drove were made in the early 90's, they had so many issues constantly. I drove one in particular that had a note similar to this one, except that it wouldn't always stay in park after putting it in park. I think many trucks have had similar issues and it's part of the reason they taught us to ALWAYS turn your wheel, usually towards the right, everytime you parked, regardless of there being a hill or not. Every single truck had multiple issues but yet they keep dumping $ in to temporarily "fix" them. 🤦♀️

nah, its on 4 seperate lifts. For long vehicles you use these as they lift the wheels and not the body/chassis. when the long vehicle lifts aren't in use they can be wheeled into a corner as the bottom are like pallet trucks/hand lifts. the lifts are linked wirelessly so they lift at the same rate. probably used more on light otr trucks and small flat bed pick ups as they dont work on normal lifts due to the centre of balance being off

Economics has a lot to do with scenes like this. "Got to get new tires real soon but don't have the dough." Yet, a blowout at 65 mph on the windy highway or trying to stop quickly behind the fully packed schoolbus will be more economically and emotionally costly than 4 brand new Bridgestones.

That car does not look like it's driver would use it with worn out tires.

The google lied to you. This is a one-off, in Wisconsin as of a year ago when it was posted to reddit. It's not impossible that other lunatics somewhere did 6 wheel conversions, but the only factory-built truck version was an entirely conventional ute built in Iran. IMG_2607-6...0120e.jpeg
A+ For Effort For Whoever Put This Spare Tire On
Customer Insisted That I Replace His Brake Pads Because The Truck Has 100k Miles
Original pads on a RAM 1500. I'm impressed.
Of course!.. have never changed the fronts on my 1/2 ton (120k miles). When you are careful, it's amazing how long stuff lasts. (No, I don't drive like peepaw, but I DO lift off the gas some distance before stopping when able)
Load More Replies...Yeah,transmissions and clutches are way cheaper than brakes.
Load More Replies...Because I drive extremely defensively, my mechanic had to remove rust from the brake discs before the statutory motor vehicle inspection. This driver appears to have a similar driving style :-)
Until you have to replace a clutch or transmission(auto or manual). Yeah that makes sense.
Load More Replies...I'd send those pads to dodge or offer to sell them to dodge because I doubt they remember how they used to make them)
Actually it's probably good he/she didn't as good as they (don't) work.
Load More Replies...The brake pads have very little wear on them. Quite unexpected with that many miles on the vehicle.

Someone rented it and pulled out a bunch of hard to see stuff, replaced it with junk and sold the genuine parts (or used them to repair their own car)?
What Could’ve Caused This ?
That looks like a brand new tyre, zero wear. So rats maybe? Chewing on the tyre to wear down their teeth?
Most likely some sort of Marten, they're well known in parts of Europe for eating plastic/rubber components, causing lots of damage, usually to electrical systems. Lots of related species in different parts of the world including weasels, stoats, ferrets, polecats...
Load More Replies...I know, right? It looks like something chewed bites out of the tire.

To be fair, it says on the Hyundai page that the max load is 420-500kg (I assume depending on model/tyres/shocks). So that's within tolerances.
It is within the payload range but maybe since all that weight is in the rear of the car, it might cause damage when it's put up on the lift? I'm not sure why else this would be an issue.

Probably meant to be serviced from underneath. Our fleet had 4 Honda minivans that was more easily serviced from underneath.

Is this a VW? They use aluminum plugs now and they just shred so they can charge you for a new drain pan.
... which also is made out of aluminium (note spelling) so they can then charge you for a new engine ... and don't ask about the chassis to engine hold-down bolts ...

One would assume this is "must run no matter what" type vehicle. Emission controls are great for the environment and fancy electronics is great for economy and the environment too. But they're not great for running in super harsh conditions (or after an EMP). Sometimes simple is better.
Customer States $5000 Exhaust Isn't Loud Enough. Please Install $6000 Headers On $500,000 Porsche
These are the people I hate, it's one thing to have a car that's naturally loud. It's another thing completely to *try* to make it louder.
Or make a quiet car comically loud like the kids do with their Hondas. I laugh myself silly whenever I see one.
Load More Replies...You know ... a bit of tech. Making an engine be silent either increases flow resistance, or takes some volume and weight. On a very lightweight motorcycle, I can somewhat understand that silence can't be the priority, because weight just sucks. A motorcycle that is heavy, is no fun to ride, and when you're fighting for every gram to remove, it may result in a few dB more ... but on a car, even an extreme light one, that weight doesn't really matter, and how you employ the machine also influences how much noise it creates. Cars have no excuse, motorcycles only a very limited bit. Purposefully making it louder, rather than accepting it as a side effect, is just stupid, and ... well, see above. Still have an electric starter, a battery, then don't expect mercy. Also, illegally loud vehicles that can't outrun police are expensive AF!

Which One Of You Knuckle Daggers Did This?
Oh my. I know for fact that replacement gaskets can be made from Tetra Pak. Cylinder head, it won't do, but as a means to be able to carry on to a workshop, they're usually fine. But, carefully inspected whenever you stop, they should be, and replace with a real one as soon as you have the chance.
'Get you home', maybe; 'get you through the rest of the year', I think not
Found A Lot Of Used Co2 Cartridges In This Car. Are People Getting High Off This Or Something?
Yep. It's called huffing, or they are known as "nangs" I think. Brain damage and death are pretty common.
No they're not. Nitrous oxide is responsible for 2% of drüg related incidents in the Netherlands, over use can cause (reversible) neurological damage by messing with your vitamin B12 levels, no deaths have been reported.

My Shop Was Literally Going To Just Throw These In With Scrap Metal Because They Aren’t Calibrated Anymore
My brother called me and said they were throwing away a 5 ton long reach floor jack because it was "broken". I drove over and retrieved it and one of the steel wheels kept falling off the shaft. A stop at Ace Hardware for a 99 cent C clip and it's all good. Got me an almost new $1000 jack for the cost of a retaining clip.
No shop would throw away, well, no shop managed by professionals, those are Snap-on torque wrenches, around $300 each. They are made to be recalibrated periodically.
Snap-on torque wrenches. You can adjust the amount of torque on them so they tighten to a specific tightness. That's what the calibration refers to. It means they can't trust them to tighten to *exactly* the right amount any more. But the average person would love them (they are super expensive).

Puncture repair. Whatever those chunks of metal are they punctured tyres on two different cars. Considering the metal appears identical I'd guess they can off the same thing. I think they're teeth off a spike strip. Like the "don't drive the wrong way or it'll puncture your tyres" deals at certain places.

Customer States: "This Car Doesn't Have A 'Hood' Or Any Other Means Of Engine Access. The Whole Body Comes Off For Any Repairs." - Salt Lake County Requires Us To Photograph Emissions Control Devices During Inspection. Ugh
The whole body doesn't come off man. It's got an engine cover the same size as a normal Mclaren "hood" that's held down by only 4 screws.
and also, if you have an expensive car like that, wouldn't you go to a brand shop for the fix?

I probably shouldn't have bothered with this list. Most of the time I didn't have a clue what I was looking at or why it was bad. The possum family and the cats were cute though!
Me too. I have never driven a car or had a licence so I have never bothered to learn about them. But some were easy to understand, like the tires that were barely there.
Load More Replies...Is there no legal requirement for your car to be checked every year to make sure it's safe to drive in the US? In the UK all cars over three years old have to have an annual MOT and if it's not safe to drive you have to get it fixed in order to continue driving it, if you don't then you're driving it illegally which will also invalidate your insurance. The only time you can legally drive a car that failed it's MOT is to and from the mechanic to get it repaired. Some of these pictures show damage that has accumulated over years so I'm just curious.
Most states require an annual inspection, but 13 do not and each state decides whether to check just basic safety or also emissions. It's kind of a mess.

I got taken a bit by Carmax because I said the front passenger seat wouldn’t recline, he forced it. I still liked it, so, buyer beware. Mechanic should’ve come with. When we tested it, it was stuck. Took an auto repair shop all day ( HAH!!., right… and me, 2500 dollars to discover coins that fell out of pockets fell into the seat crack, and filled up, yes FILLED UP, that area so the seat would not recline!! Buyer beware. I still like the SUV, AND it will be my last car I have to buy, but it’s a great drive!
I would never had one of those liquid car air fresheners in a vehicle, I had one that leaked and melted the airvent and dashboard, surprised they still are available....though having now seen loaded guns in cars..meh
