The most likely explanation is that they wandered into the woods outside their home, an area of dense forest and treacherous terrain, and perished in some accidental manner, probably involving flowing water. There are plenty of circumstantial details about the stepfather that make him look suspicious, but it is apparent to anyone familiar with the established timeline of their disappearance that he could not have harmed the children and disposed of remains without the knowledge or participation of their mother, and probably also of his mother. Given that the mother and stepfather separated immediately after, it is hard to believe that neither would have turned on the other or that someone's story wouldn't have changed if there were a guilty secret between them.

They are Gastroliths. They are specialised structures made primarily of calcium carbonate and they develop in the stomach walls of decapods. When a crustacean is preparing to molt, it strips calcium from its old exoskeleton to soften it, temporarily packing and storing it in its stomach in these smooth balls. Once the old exoskeleton is discarded, the decapod rapidly re-absorbs the gastroliths into its body, distributing the stored calcium to harden its new, soft armour. The fact that these were found intact in a lobster means it was probably ready to molt.

He was 19 and driving home from college. TBH, I remember being in college - I flunked my first semester at a four-year university badly (I'd been going to community college before transferring) and I was terrified to tell my parents. I'm not saying for sure that something similar happened to Bryce Laspisa, but if he'd badly flunked a class/several classes, or had ditched and hadn't gone to his classes at all and didn't know how to tell his parents. He was going to college in California, about 500 miles away from where his parents lived in SoCal, and California colleges can be pricey, so if Laspisa did flunk out or ditch, he might have worried about his parents reacting to the monetary loss as well. I wonder if anyone has ever checked his grades/transcript from his last semester at Sierra College.

OP on Reddit says: "So I found this book in my local library, just sitting out in a private room, I use this private room nearly every day. I will attach photos but the book is red with gold lettering, it’s professionally bound, has no author, no editor, no nothing, simply the title “a book with no end”. The majority of the book is blank however the first few pages are filled with red splatters, it looks like blood, but the consistency is more like ink- Which leads me to believe it’s an art project? The next ~ 10 pages are all covered in this red splatter, and there are very cryptic stamped sentences. It talks about sins and a book store, super weird. There are a bunch of ripped up photos of the same girl, they could be from a magazine but it looks more like printed out Instagram photos, the photos are also covered in the red splatter. The rest of the book pages are entirely blank."

From a comment on Reddit (and as a Gen Xer, I concur): "This is the answer. I’m Gen X, and in our required typing class in middle school (grade 7 or 8, I forget), for an entire year I used every class period to create formal letters, contracts, pages from an instruction manual, and type out stories, all to prank friends, family, middle school teachers and administrators, and so on. I amused myself by leaving them lying around, having in-jokes with friends, and to record for posterity (I thought) my stories. I even got in trouble for taping an ‘official’ notice from the school board (that was actually quite crude when you read it) on the door of a friend’s locker. 100% this is from a typing class in the 1970s or 1980s and was a joke between friends that they’ve kept all these years. It might be nice to see if you can get it back to them using OSINT or something."

Not much of a mystery. They had been at a party drinking heavily, and were then caught in CCTV breaking into a marina, where a boat was stolen. It was March and the waters in lake were near freezing. It's assumed they took the boat out, and at some point it capsized. Drunk and in the dark with no life jackets, they unfortunately stood little chance.

"In a new interview from this month, Kyron’s best friend Carson Lopez says Terri [Kyron's mother] came up to them that morning, telling Kyron he had a doctor’s appointment and they needed to leave right away. Kyron expressed confusion, telling Terri his dad hadn’t said anything about an appointment. Terri said it was a last minute thing and they needed to go. Carson says he definitely saw Kyron leave with Terri that morning. This contradicts Terri’s account of last seeing Kyron walking to his classroom. Kyron’s dad says Terri never mentioned a doctor’s appointment to him, but they’d been having issues in their relationship prior to Kyron’s disappearance. Kyron’s friend’s statement doesn’t automatically mean Terri was involved, but it is a firm statement of someone that was there that morning, and claims to have seen Kyron leaving with Terri." Terri has otherwise denied having anything to do with her son's disappearance.

We had a young man from Montreal disappear walking up a mountain in Peru a few years ago (not winter mountain climbing) and he disappeared soon after a couple had interacted with him. There was no reason for him to go off the trail. Never found him. After 9 years, his dad is still searching.
