There’s Nothing Wrong With Enjoying Fast Food
As long as it's not all you eat, sure, have the occasional hamburger/pizza/fried chicken and enjoy it.
Being Good At School Doesn’t Mean You’re Smart
Much of school consists of studying, memorizing and following instructions. It's very indoctrinated. Leaves little room for creative exploration, theory constructs and self-discovery. If you're able to produce anything off-curriculum it's not accounted for in marks.
Mayo Is Actually Amazing
Not the bottled stuff. Some restaurants make it fresh and that is awesome
Streaming Services Have Made TV Series Worse
People Demonize Sugar Too Much
Excessive sugar, yes, but I'd rather have pure sugar than sickly chemical additives.
Listening To An Audiobook Doesn’t Mean You’ve Read The Book
This one's kinda ableist. What if you're blind and prefer not to use Braille?
Not ableist, I think you're missing the point. It's suggesting that for some people, if you play an audiobook you're likely to be not really paying full attention all the time, to have not really gained as full an understanding as it you read the words. I think it's likely, but I've never actually listened to an audiobook for comparison, so I don't know.
Load More Replies...I love listening to audiobooks whilst doing household chores - it makes the chores bearable and gives me an opportunity to listen to books I probably wouldn’t read otherwise
I drive a lot to visit my mom and my son at uni. They are 3 and 5 hours away by car. I play audio books on the drive, and enjoy them thoroughly.
Load More Replies...Only if you were actually paying attention and it wasn't just background noise to what you were really doing.
Okay. But you can also read a book without actually reading it. Have you ever read a few pages and realized you had no idea what was going on? Or am I the only person with ADHD? I love both physical and audio books.
Load More Replies...Why don't audiobooks come with subtitles for the hard of hearing ?
At the end of the day, you're consuming the contents of the book one way or another. Be it physically reading them with an actual book, or listening to them via an audio book. If we go by pure definitions, then yes, you technically didn't "read" a book with an audio book, but the contents were still consumed.
I don't know what you would call it though. Either way you've processed the information. It's silly to pretend that only processing it one way counts.
Load More Replies...This is correct on technicality. Reading a book is a means of taking in the story, but NOT exclusively the only way. If the audiobook is complete and faithful, it is equivalent to reading for people able to pay attention. Reading comprehension is not a given either, so for some the audiobook is better for understanding.
I don’t use audiobooks, but as long as you’re concentrating on it and it isn’t background noise, of course they’re books! Those who scoff at audiobooks forget that throughout human history, told and retold stories have been considered far more valuable as stories than those just written down
No, obvs, l haven't *read* it. But I've lived the story just as much if not more. I can't stay still for long so audiobooks are my thing. And a paper book for before bed.
I had cataract surgery with complications. Audio books saved my sanity for several months
I read very fast, which can be a bad thing sometimes. In wanting to get to the exciting part, sometimes I can miss a little of the atmospheric nuance. Listening to audiobooks has taught me to slow down a bit and savor a story more...plus, there's something so soothing about being read to, as if I were a child at bedtime.
I have ADHD. When I can lock into a book, it's awesome, but I hyperfocus on it and get nothing else done. Audiobooks let me multitask, and even help me get things done that I would have been too scattered to do if my brain wasn't occupied.
I do, too. Have you tried increasing the playback speed? That helps me a lot.
Load More Replies...i have auditory processing disorder, and cant use audio books. i have no opinion on this, so i answered "i dont know", and was a bit surprised at how many said the same thing. honestly thought there would be less than 10%
My mom used to tell me this until I started giving her book suggestions. It seemed to convince her that I actually absorbed the material. Oddly enough, I find increasing the playback speed helps if my attention slips too much. I ADORE the Libby app, which is a free app that lets you access digital books and audiobooks through your local library. I don't know if it's available outside the US, though.
I will have read the book, and if the narrator has a suitably soothing voice, I'll have it on audio when I'm relaxing for bed. A bit like my Dad reading me a story at bedtime when I was little. Very soothing.
Agreed. You didn't read the book, you listened to someone else that read the book. You listened to a story.
Were it not for audiobooks I never would have made it through "War and Peace" Wouk's WW2 series, and several other massive tomes.
Listening to audio books while hiking is a good way to get through your pile of shame while keeping yourself a bit more healthy.
I thought audiobooks are always the complete thing

Paper Books Aren’t Superior To E-Books
We need a car tree air freshener with "old bookstore scent". E-books are convenient, but you can't beat the musty smell of old books,
Reading Books Is Not Inherently Superior To Watching Movies
I generally find movies of books I have read and enjoyed quite disappointing. I guess that during the reading process I am building a mental image of the people, their environment, their attitudes, etc. and these rarely match the director's ideas.

If You’re Making Tea, Using A Microwave Is Better Than Using A Kettle
I once suggested to my American friend we could microwave the s'mores instead of building a fire, he looked like he wanted to build a fire just to burn me alive. This is the same thing to the British when you suggest microwaving water for tea.

Bacon Is Overrated
So many of these are just personal choice. Why should anyone say that any food is an abomination unless it’s poisonous? Don’t tell anyone what they should eat! And don’t judge them either!!!
At least those are personal opinions. Not like the flat earth one.

I read books, I love reading but do I think audio listeners are getting less? No, I’m just glad folk are consuming literature one way or another, reading isn’t always accessible for some people. And so on and so forth. Your choices that don’t control my choices are fine and dandy.
First, no poll for bacon? Because we all know what the results would be! Second, don't put NOT in the questions, it's confusing!
Question 13? "You don't need to drink 8 glasses of water a day" Yup, you don't, or Nope you don't!
