50 Of The Most Unique And Creative Buildings From All Over The World, As Shared On This Twitter Page
Buildings come in a wide variety of sizes, shapes, and functions, and over the centuries we've gotten pretty good at constructing them.
Architects don't just design structures that are sturdy and strong. Being inherent problem solvers, they typically seek to create spaces for the times and the people who will use them; they design environments.
And one of the best places online to check out their most memorable works is the aptly-titled Twitter account 'Unique Building.'
It consistently shares pictures that live up to its name, and even though it is quite young even by the internet's standards (the account was created in March 2022), there are already 160K people following it.

the black of the houses is the burnt wood surface - a Japanese technique to achieve water and fire resistance of the wood material
I love this....can't get much better than traditional architecture.
This looks stellar! I'd love to walk these streets during the dusk when light are being turned on to experience it.
I've been here! It really is that beautiful, and is beautiful at night, too, when lit with lanterns. We stayed in a minshuku, which is a traditional small inn - the dinner was some of the best food I've ever eaten. The area is well known for lacquer-ware, and I bought a few pieces as gifts. After I'd done my shopping our (small) tour group assembled at the station down the street. The elderly fellow who had sold me some bowls came chasing me down - he was worried that he had overcharged me! It turned out that he had (but it was the equivalent of about $5AUD, so not really much) and he was insistent that he give me back the money he had overcharged. Such honour and integrity as a not often seen. Japan is magic - you should definitely go.
Do you have any specifics on what your group you went through, the name of the minshuku, where you ate, etc.? I’m very interested!

To learn how to look at these pictures, we contacted nomadic architect Adi Cohen, who is the founder of THE NEW MOVEMENT, an architecture studio that designs one-of-a-kind projects all over the world.
"Creating a design is like inviting someone to behave in a certain way," Cohen told Bored Panda. "So it is essential that we understand the future users of the space: what kind of moments and activities will take place in the space? What are the relationships and the dynamics we wish to create within the building and between the building and its surroundings?"
Not a thousand people with cameras in front of it. Maybe a pic from Covid times, only time I yave seen it inobstructed.
Yes. I think it's derived from Latin "horologium".

Preety, i love it, it gives meva "wrath gate " vibe ( WoW players Will get the reference, non WoW players can Google it )
After answering the previous questions, Cohen said architects then usually take time to study the land, climate, and culture they are going to be working with.
For example, they need to consider if natural resources, such as wind and sun, will be available for the buildings.
"The ideal design experience for me is a holistic one that generates a multi-sensory experience," she added.
It's amazing when 'living walls are incorporated into spaces. It cools the immediate area by around 5C, and it pulls pollutants out of the air. It makes an exceptional difference to the quality of life of the people who live or work in the surrounds.
It looks so cool and majestic. Imagine a whole block or city like this. It would be magical
I parked in a large mall parking lot a few sunny hot days ago. It was 80 degrees. when I got home it was 75 degrees.
Not only "a snake shaped building", It's a Five headed giant snake shape building.
It looks a little like commemorative architecture, the Bijlmer plane crash of 1992 in Amsterdam. w9ix62yan9...wd1280.jpg
For your next visit. It is located at De Zuidas, in the south of Amsterdam. You can see it from the train station Amsterdam Zuid.

"A good architecture project starts at the macro level and keeps its consistency down to the tiniest details," Cohen, who has also given an excellent TEDx talk on how to design freedom, said. "It is never a copy-cut design, but a story tailored to the place, users, and site."
"Architecture tells a story; it draws you in, it feels inviting and inspiring. You can navigate and use it easily. And yes, it is also beautiful."
I went for a walk in the wood surrounding that tower a few years ago. My mate lives nearby and assured me she knew where she was going...she didn't. After about and hour she declared that we were in fact lost. Luckily myself and my partner are pretty good at finding our way so managed to navigate us out.
The Gargoyles shall sleep until the castle is raised above the clouds. Loved that show when I was a kid.

Load More Replies...So actually... the cathedral is still not finished. There are always again improvements, because it is built of sandstone and that quickly breaks down. A legend says that when the cathedral is finished, the devil will come to earth and destroy mankind. And the cathedral has something special: it has the deepest sounding bell in the world. Named Peter's bell, colloquially also called Dicke Pitter (thick Peter). And yes, I am from Cologne :)
I love coming here and learning new things. Thank you

imagine how many people that would've fed, clothed, and housed. Yay religion ... money gathered and spend on itself rather than what it claims to care about
Imagine how many craftsmen, artisans and artists the building of it fed , clothed and housed over the cenuries! Yay for giving people the means to earn a living! edit: While I would like nothing more than to have an in depth discussion about your unreflected comment, I won't. Just one hint: try to educate yourself about what heppened at the places cathedrals were buil. How and why peole flocked there, trade picked up and schools and universiies were founded at roughly the same time.
Load More Replies...This thing is a desaster XD They constantly have to work on it. Once they finish a part, they have to move to the next one... There are soooo many myths and legends about why but I love the one about the architect being in cahoots with the devil :D
Ironically, when you are close, unless you are standing right in front, it's often invisible (blocked by surrounding buildings). We get tourists all the time looking for the cathedral although it's right around the corner.
Load More Replies...However, there are plenty of challenges that architects need to navigate if they want to deliver the best possible results. And they aren't always prepared for them upfront.
"Despite the passion and creativity of architecture schools and the academic world, office life in most firms often seems like a whole other world," Cohen said. "Architects often wonder what happened to the joy of creating innovative and beautiful designs when they're dealing with technical drawings, building permits, and profit-driven development companies."
It feels as if the building was built, but then it achieved sentience, and it started growing to its own specifications.
Very excited to be going there in November. A bucket list trip and where I'll celebrate my 70th birthday on the 7th.

Furthermore, architects don't get to show off their skills any time they want to. "In contrast to other creative fields, architecture requires substantial investment. You may find yourself waiting for the 'perfect' client, project, and budget to feel fulfilled as an architect," Cohen continued.
"This was one of the reasons I had sold all my belongings and bought a one-way ticket to Japan five years ago. I couldn’t imagine myself spending the rest of my life sitting behind a desk for 10 hours a day, creating uninspiring buildings. I knew there must be more to life, there must be more to architecture."

Water sometime rises sometime receding. If by any problem water rises higher then the docs, then it will be a nightmare
I think the level of the surrounded water is regulated and controlled. We Dutch know how to do that ya know.
Load More Replies...Sooo cool love this. Would be awesome to live there. Though trash disposal and maintenance work might be a b**** out there.
I don't think that's the behind part. iirc taxes are based on the front of your home there. Thus many homes have tiny fronts spreading to huge back halves of the homes.
These houses are recent. They are taxed on their value. Size and shape doesn't matter.

But the craft keeps evolving. Cohen said remote work and the desire to create a better work-life balance are impacting this industry as well.
"As part of the public interest in new priorities and life choices, there is a growing movement of people who wish to live in alignment with the inner values and are questioning the social scripts we all grew up to. I see more and more people who are selling their city 2-bedroom apartments and are moving closer to nature, living in places they feel inspired, healthy, and free."

this is designed by hundertwasser. it's called 'bad blumau - rogner therme' and is in the south-east of styria. 'bad' means bath. it's like a spa.
One of my favourite architects of all time. You could put in this thread all of his creations
Load More Replies...Interesting the ways in which people are using the space. Some people have enclosed some of it to make more indoor living space. Others have rated outdoor space highly. Some have gone all out on plants, and with a few, it doesn't seem as if they are used.
"We are shifting from the assembly line mentality to talent and quality-based economy. Exciting times!" the architect said.
"It is essential to take a close look at the places that we choose to live in and how they affect our performance, our health, and our happiness."
"The same way we are busy biohacking our sleep and diet in an attempt to optimize our output, people start to understand the importance of spaces where they live, work and connect with each other."
I was like; why is there a giant roll of packing tape between those buildings.
I'm not a fan. The bridge makes the street below so dark. Some lighting under the bridge would have made this so much better.
Having been there stuck for 6 hours, it smells like something rotting as well

Just make the holes bigger. I had a friend in Hawaii who had a tree going through his living room roof. Every few years the hole had to be enlarged.
Load More Replies...What happen if there is a storm ? The tree could destroy part of the building!
The structure will help the tree not to bend beyond its limits where it would break. Especially if the building is positioned to block the prevailing winds.

As a side note, Cohen highlighted that when she was seeking a new path for herself, she had to question everything.
"That included not only the life scripts that we are socially expected to follow but also the way we build and the impact that those cookie-cutter buildings and cities have on human beings. I strongly believe that the real purpose of architecture is creating places we can thrive in, places that replenish our mind, body, and soul. As the world is rapidly changing, the more we understand people, the better we can design for them," she added.
Built in only four years (848 - 852) - and today, with all of our technology and tools, we build c**p.
The buildings of today don't even last 10 years straight without going through a partial rehaul. Our tech is flawed.
The word you're looking for is "cheap". Everyone is looking to save a few bucks but still look killer. So its like putting gold leaf on something instead of making it out of gold bars and diamonds.
Load More Replies...It's beautiful but too close to the shore. I'm worried about the abrasion.
I wish I could see work by Oscar Niemeyer. That is where I'd truly like to go...
"At THE NEW MOVEMENT, we seek to create places that feel ‘alive’ and evoke a sense of wonder, places that invite us to explore and amplify freedom. Instead of trends, we seek essence: combining ancient wisdom with knowledge from various fields such as neuroarchitecture and neuroaesthetics, biophilic design, and human-centered design," Cohen said.
"We aim to create spaces that have a timeless quality, a magnetic force we subconsciously feel drawn to ... I believe that creative people should constantly expand their horizons, be open to new experiences. We have to stay curious and feed our subconscious with new sensory information, exciting innovative ideas, and knowledge."
Just like art and technology, architecture is one of the physical manifestations of culture. It gives a face to the way we live. And judging by where it's going, the future certainly looks interesting and promising.
I was thinking it looked like a zombie --like a lower-case "i" does in some fonts (but not this one, apparently)!
That was the concept I thought but the actual ended up much more different...worse lol
What they aren't showing you it's that it's a viewpoint high on dramatic cliffs. He created spaces all over the island seeing beauty and opportunity in the volcanic lava. A true visionary. Many are glassed over entries to bubbles in the rock formations. Others are absolute party palaces under the ground where the temperatures suit relaxation. Genius.

Load More Replies...This, I find extremely ugly. Like a dystopion movie set or so, ... has any of those "an entire hood in one building"-attempts worked out yet, anywhere, even only one? Doubt it. We have such an atrocity, too, that is falling apart right now, and hopefully, will be gone in a few years. "Ihme Zentrum", if you're interested ... away with it? Sure! Monument? Of ugliness and planning disasters, yes. Of anything worth conserving? No. Apartment-prostitution also was, practically, onyl done there in a way that neighbours knew it, in fact, entire stories were used as brothel at one time, and it seemed like nobody could do anything about it, although running a business from a residentally meant building isn't generally allowed, let alone a business that comes with that much ... side effects and stuff. Didn't do the building any good ... and chances don't grow on trees, but trees could grow in the place of this brutalist ugliety.
