As much as some people would want it, there isn’t one universal beauty routine that would make everyone feel and look great. But each person usually finds something that works for them, be it a seven-step skincare routine or splashing water on their face.
Some beauty hacks can get rather unconventional, though. If you’re looking for examples, just check out the comments under this TikToker’s video, who asked netizens to share their “most unhinged beauty hacks.” Covering everything from cucumbers and lime to cutting men out of their lives, the netizens delivered, so scroll down to find their two cents on the list below and see if there’s anything that might work for you, too.

I stopped caring about my appearance and ive never felt more free
I’m a nurse and I’ve asked some of the best looking 90-100 year old women I’ve met and they all haven’t had kids, no husband and loreal or ponds cold cream.
I'm often mistaken to be 20 years younger than I am. I'm married (very happily so), have raised three kids (and breastfed two of them--for the comment that mentioned breastfeeding ages you). But--like I said--I'm happily married to my best friend, and my kids are my favorite people on the planet. Maybe being happy is the key. I've also never really worn makeup and when I have it is just usually mascara. And I sunscreen daily without fail, and have done so from a young age.
Being in a stable, long term relationship adds years of healthy life to a man. Reduces woman’s lifespan
A lot of it also comes down to genes. Everyone in my family has good skin, and I don't have an wrinkles at 55 except for one across my forehead.
I didn't use any kind of makeup till I was in my early thirties. No facewash, no cleanser, no serum. Just soap and nivea cream and sunscreen. I had normal skin and used to eat raw carrots and beetroots a lot.
Don’t get married don’t have babies
Having a child/children biologically ages women faster. A fetus literally sucks years of life out of a woman. Breastfeeding does the same. There are a lot of variables here though and it had something to do with telomeres. Marriage also shortens a woman's life expectancy. No doubt due to stress and a lot of metawork.
People hate to hear it, but fruits and veggies are quite literally the fountain of youth!
When I was a kid, my peers considered loving fruits and vegetables weird. I will still take a plate of vegetables or fruit over junk food any day.!
drinking lots of water and not smoking/vaping.
Go-to-bed-early
my grandma says she take prenatal vitamins to boost her hair and skin. people often mistake her for my mom, so i'm taking her word for it
Supp. Apart from the very rare cases of actual malnutrition all they're good for is the pockets of the manufacturers and vendors.

I invested in a $2000 mattress because beauty sleep is real
I actually sleep the best on a Japanese-style shikifuton on the ground. It drives my mother absolutely up the wall. She can't stand that I "sleep on the floor" and has tried to make me sleep on the world's most expensive mattresses (Tempur-pedic, etc.) I've tried sleeping on beds and they just don't work for me, especially squodgy memory foam beds. So I think it's not necessarily about a "$2,000 mattress" for everyone, but finding the sleep solution/situation that works for you! XD My shikifuton was $200 XD
If I slept on the floor I'd never be able to get up again, LOL. You put your finger on it, "finding the sleep solution that works for you."

Don’t use whitening toothpaste - it weakens your enamel. Instead use an enamel protective toothpaste- it strengthens the enamel and your teeth won’t stain as easily
i eat an absolute obscene amount of cucumbers with lime
I love cucumbers with little salt, chilli powder, and lime
No men = no stress. And oil of Olay. And sunscreen. Got it
My mom used Oil of Olay for years. She died at 83 & looked about 55.
My mom used Oil of Olay. She looked more like 60 when she was 80. She died at 96.
Mine, too! She had lovely skin to the end. (Miss you, Mom!)
Load More Replies...It's been Oil of Olay globally since 1999.

Wash your pillow cases every week…especially if you struggle with acne
If I sleep on the side of my face, like full on smashed face in the pillow, I'm guaranteed a break out. I sleep two night on one side of the pillow, and then flip for another couple of nights. Then I do the same with the second pillow, and then change the cases.
Sunscreen. No boyfriend. Cutt people off when they start stressing you out. Water. No alcohol.
The last part is a struggle. If a Scots blood/alcohol ratio gets too out of whack we go a little insane, we need the alcohol to thin out the rage.
Gain independence from England and join EU would reduce the anger some

My advice- stay single and don’t let anyone’s undiagnosed son waste your time. Believe me…should see what I looked like with that last one I’m said no one called a intervention
"Anyone's undiagnosed son", that's a whole wing of psychology. Love that they made a point of this.
I eat fiber like I must really enjoy pooping. But I swear, my skin has never been better.
My dad used to drink a glass of Metamucil every day! Nowadays, I sprinkle a bit of psyllium husk onto the dogs' meals - it does wonders for them. They eat good food, but one of them has disabilities/issues that affect his digestion, all from having distemper as a puppy, and the other just... has issues XD but psyllium husk is amazing stuff. I've mixed it into meals, into homemade bread, etc.!

My mom is in her 70's and looks 20 years younger than she is. Her beauty routine: wesr sunscreen, don't drink alcohol, and divorce men that stress you out.
Mascara hack —Run hot water from the sink over the tube for a minute or two before applying. The heat softens the formula, making it smoother, easier to apply, and clump-free—giving you perfectly separated, luscious lashes 👏 every 👏 time
Or...hold it in your armpit or put it in your bra while you do the rest of your make up to save water
if I have stress and anxiety at job I quit. if can't sleep quit. if I'm sad at job I quit if I have physical pain during job. I quit
Must be nice not having to worry about bills. If I did that in my industry, nobody would trust my expertise anymore.
Lowkey narcissistic of me but I’ve started to aggressively ask myself why I’m so pretty every time I look in the mirror. It hypes me up before stepping out of the house
Not narcissistic. Narcissistic would be saying you're so much prettier than others. But positive self-talk is a healthy thing. And if you can't acknowledge that you're pretty? Just tell yourself that you're not ugly!
Dissociating constantly has made me age beautifully. No grey hair or wrinkles. But u never know what’s going on (great!). Autopilot until I get home
I stay out of the sun, I don’t drink alcohol, I moisturize and use spf everyday! People always think I’m younger than I am by like 10 years. I think the sun is the biggest one though
Celibacy and an occasional good cry gives you a beautiful clean glow
prenatal gummies. plastic surgeon told me this. has every vitamin u need so u don’t need to buy multiple supplements
I am a big believer in vitamins now. After having my baby nothing was “regular” any more. Doctor said I was still ok, but I knew better. When my daughter started taking vitamins ( Flintstones for the win!) she wanted me to have one too. Within 2 weeks everything started to level out and my body got back on track.
But, like, there's ... multivitamin supplements too? Also, if following a healthy(non-vegan) diet, you don't need to take any vitamin, aside from D3 maybe.
I started using Nivea Firm and toning gel ($15) on my face and neck area and noticed how taught and sculpted my face got. I had spent so much previously on $$$ skincare
I mix body wash and coffee grounds together to make a body scrub. every time it instantly makes my skin look smoother and tighter
I actually use caffeinated soap. Not much of the caffeine gets into your actual body via the skin, so it doesn't hype you up like drinking coffee would, but it makes my skin feel nicer. It's supposed to have antioxidant effects; I don't know if it does or not, but I love the products of the company I buy from, and they smell great, so I'll keep using them XD
Coffee grounds work wonderfully as skin exfoliants and do wonders for hair, too!
I put baking soda on top of my toothpaste 3 times a week since I was a kid. People always compliment how white my teeth are.
In summary: water, fiber, sunscreen, oil of olay, stay single and sleep more. I’m 1 for 6! Explains a lot.
Hold grudges, keeps the skin firm
i SLATHER vaseline all over my face (and eyelashes) before going to bed
Sadly, Vaseline blocks my pores, but it does make my eyelashes and eyebrows grow in like 70's bushes, I get compliments all the time.
Vaseline doesn’t moisturize. It traps moisture (and whatever else is on your skin) and can make your skin better- until it doesn’t. I will put a little on my face in the dead of winter if I have to be outside in the bitter cold for a while, but putting petroleum oil on my face is a no.
Avoid getting in a relationship.
I put deodorant on my forehead / hairline because I sweat a lot and it prevents sweat
Hyperhidrosis? I have that in the hands and feet, tried everything under the sun except botox, only thing that ever helps is Arrowroot powder.
Sweat is our body's way of cooling us down. It's okay to put it on our smelliest, sweatiest areas, like underarms and even under and between breasts. But it's not good to put it everywhere, including your head.
I wash my hair with Cerave SA cleanser once a week and it removes all the old buildup (and helps my scalp)
Crest whitening strips sorry i panicked
Be carful with whitening products. I've had reactions on my gums from them.
Mint tea at bedtime satisfying and good for you gut
Once a month I wash my hair with dish soap, works better than any clarifying shampoo
God, NO! I feel my hair getting damaged just by reading this. The best hair care is not washing it every day.
Different hair types exist. Some people have super oily, non-porous hair and you just need to wash it, there's no way around.
Load More Replies...I sweat a lot at night so I have to wash my hair more, but I use conditioner and only use shampoo once or twice a week.
minimum 10k steps, 120oz of water, and some added electrolytes, tretinoin, hyaluronic acid/collagen supplements
Tretinoin is pure poison. It helps with even the most severe cases of acne, yes, but the list of side effects is INSANE (liver damage, kidney damage, depression, even s*****e is listed. You have to be on birth control when you take it and months afterwards, because it will cause severe damage to the fetus. You're not even allowed to donate blood)
You're thinking of Accutane (isotretinoin), plain topical tretinoin does not have those issues.
Load More Replies...Care for your spirit & soul as much as outward beauty. Those who are lost, evil, in bad spots of their life all age faster and have poor skin. Take care of your spirit before anything
I wish that were true, but I've known some pretty evil narcissists who aged remarkably well. The people around them were the ones who looked like ghosts.
…And keep negative people away from you! OP forgot that in the post.

sinus rinse. make sure you use distilled water. the way my face is so much less swollen and puffy looking and it's made my tear troughs less severe
It works well for some conditions. Use sterile water though
Load More Replies...There are several ways to do this- some are very inexpensive. The key is distilled water and a CLEAN delivery system. NO GETTING LAZY ABOUT CLEANING!
Dita von Teese only sleeps on her back because pillows give you wrinkles
Dita's whole career is based on her appearance. She's going to do what she thinks works for her, and sacrifices comfort. You may get those wrinkled pillow case imprints on your skin in the morning, but they go away later.
I had to sleep on my back for three months after a surgery. I don't care about wrinkles, l can't sleep like that
A silk or satin pillowcase is fine. I can’t sleep on my back all the time, I’d never fall asleep!
NO SUGAR, NO ALCOHOL. As little fried/processed foods as possible. Fresh veggies & fruit. Protein for every meal/snack. Don't eat when you're not hungry. Don't overeat. Protect your skin from the sun. Drink lots of water throughout the day. Prioritize sleep. Avoid stress as much as possible. The body needs movement to remain healthy, do what you can. Toxic people/relationships aren't worth it, cut them out. Protect your peace at all costs. Marriage and children aren't the only path to a fulfilling life. They can make some people incredibly miserable/stressed/sick, ask yourself if that's really what you need. Also ask yourself what your values are and do your best to live according to them, that's where self-esteem comes from. Don't base your worth on your physical appearance, don't compare yourself to what you've internalized you "should" look like. The version of you that doesn't wear makeup/flattering clothes/hairstyles deserves the same amount of love and respect. You're allowed to take space regardless of how much time you've spent in front of the mirror. You don't owe other people the "prettier" version of you. You owe them a certain level of physical hygiene (if that's accessible to you) and to behave like a decent human being, that's it. On that note, as an adult, you are responsible for your own mental health, take care of it & protect it. Stop caring about external beauty/societal pressures, and focus that money & energy on fulfilling activities that interest you & enrich your life
"The version of you that doesn't wear makeup/flattering clothes/hairstyles deserves the same amount of love and respect." - No s**t. And what if others don't give you what you "deserve"? OP lives in Lala Land.
move. look for a warm climate, extra points if it's close to water. walkable city and nice people. trust, you're waist will be snatched, skin clear, hair luscious and your skin will be tan and glowy
Warmer climates have lower life expectancies and higher obesity rates in the US. Tanning ages the skin faster than anything else.
I have dry skin and I live in Florida. My face loves the humidity coupled with Olay. In the drier months I have to use something heavier though.
Oil of Olay. I just turned 50. A plastic surgeon thought I was 28, & suggested in 20 yrs I'd need a fresher up. I've used it from 16yrs old. Nothing outside of water touches my skin.
That plastic surgeon thought you were 28 the way your grandmother thought you were the prettiest girl she’d ever seen.
One also wonders why OP was at a plastic surgeon's if they "look 28" at age 50 XD

not sure how unhinged this is but the best setting spray is hairspray
That's not what that's for. These are starting to get to be terrible advice the further down I go.
Before setting spray was a thing, I used it when performing and also spray my finger with deodorant and wipe it on my top lip. The key is spray lightly from a distance. And it’s not good for skin long term, ok for a one off.

SPF 50+ every 3 hours every day regardless of the UV. Never ever tan. Tretinoine 2-3 days a week. Nivea moisturizer. Azelaic acid. Alternate running, lifting and stretching. You will look 30 at 50
There is also a difference in sunscreens. It is worth paying attention to where the UV filters are listed on the INCI list. They should be listed at number three or four.
Cut people off the minute they are weird or stress you you’ll look young forever
Right?? This seems like a good way to go through life with zero positive relationships.
Load More Replies...This is becoming a pattern... also does any critique or advise count as stressing them out?
clove tea, i gained 52 pounds when i was pregnant and lost 40 since i had my baby 2 months ago lol
Um, yeah, because now you don't have a baby, placenta, amnionic fluid and all that water retention.
Electric toothbrush, coconut oil pulling, symmetrical posture, mewing, nose breathing, Korean skin care, Japanese hair care, face muscle practice, 1hr of sunlight and sunscreen daily
Oil pulling is BS. I worked vitamins/supplements for two and a half years and I studied a lot of our products so I could know what I was talking about. Swishing coconut oil around in your mouth isn't going to do a goldarn thing for your teeth. Brush and floss NORMALLY and see a dentist/have annual cleanings if you can.
Avoid men at all costs! I'm 42, haven't had a bf in over 10 years, and look like I'm 25!!
I sleep on my back like a vampire and I don’t smile.. smile lines won’t catch me slipping
when i start breaking out, i sleep in a full face of makeup & it clears right up lol
OP needs better skin care if makeup is helping. It’s coating her skin but, trust me, it’s not helping.
Sunscreen, tretinoin, WITCHCRAFT. When you acknowledge the metaphysical, and speak your intentions into the ethers, the ethers will respond in kind. Do with that info as you will.
What the F is it here with ipeople pushing tretinoin/Accutane? with its list of awful and dangerous side-effects? Edit update: The people were referencing tretinoin (topical), not isotretinoin (oral accutane). My error.
They're both prescription medications, and would be administered under the careful watch of a professional. It's not like people are just suggesting it as a generic item you can pick up from the local department store.
Load More Replies...Yelling at men who deserve it, replacing every cream and serum with Vaseline, and doing makeup that suits my face rather than following trends
Vaseline itself is not moisturizing, so if you have dry skin, this isn't going to work. It does seal in your moisturizer if you put it over the top though, which can make your moisturizer more effective.
Not a beauty hack but a period hack, pads shorten the length of your period. I used tampons for years, switched to only pads, period is 1-2 days shorter
Agreed. I have three decades of experience with menstruation. Can confirm that absolutely no form of menstrual care/products "shortens" a period unless you literally have a D&C.

Very few of these mentioned good cardio exercise, strength exercise, yoga, and good nutrition which are what really work.
Take sun & genetics out of the equation and there won't be much difference
It's not about not having relationships. It's about having healthy relationships. I'm married, and raised three kids. People always think I'm 20 years younger than I am. When I started a job a few years ago, my 30 year old coworker thought I was around her age. She invited me to her son's birthday party. He was turning 3. She thought maybe I'd want to bring my kids that she'd heard me mention. I laughed. My oldest two were already in their 20s at that time. She was floored and asked how old I was--I had to show her my driver's license because she didn't believe me. I was 47, almost 48.
No men. No Kids. low salt diet. A mix of almost everything above. Q + A Super Foods Facial Oil, Egyptian Magic Skin Cream and alcohol-free aloe vera gel go a long way. Also cats, their purring keeps wrinkles at bay.
