Prom king, Captain of the football team type stuff. myb8th grade summer the best advice I ever received from my older sister was to be nice to everyone when you start high school. Geeks, loners, punkers, jocks, band kids. I was nice to all of them. I'm 38 now and people from high school put on their best face when they see me because I treated them like a friend. A girl who was very attractive and also self-proclaimed popular became an escort and eventually married a wealthy client. Husband recently attempted to run for Mayor of the city and lost big time.

2nd girl who was also very attractive became a model, got knocked up without knowing who the father was, got into an abusive relationship, ran away, got knocked up by another guy who left shortly after she gave birth and finally she decided to get her s**t together. Last I heard she’s finishing college to become a nurse and she lives with her parents.

They got the acne treatments they needed, were able to buy nice clothes, were much more experienced navigating social situations, etc. So plenty of them just kept that momentum going and had good successful college experiences, and entered successful careers. Anecdotally, when I've met these people now I always get this weird intuition like they're not fully self aware?

Plenty of others peaked in high school though, and their lives went downhill afterward. And plenty of them lived privileged lives that self destructed after a point. There are some particular karmic situations I've seen.

I dunno...everything happens to everyone. I was at my lowest point ever in high school, so I get to experience life as only getting better from there :).

One became a doctor, one became a union president, one became a toy exec and married an exec on a streaming platform, one was a professional football player for a few years. 30 years on, they're still good looking and charismatic.

Not high school, but a kid I was in grade school with became a famous actor with a beloved TV role. He was a really nice kid on top of being absurdly good looking and very popular. We went to different high schools but I ran into him occasionally and he very much fit the thread.

Edit: I never said any of these kids were rich. I'm not sure where you guys got that idea but it's coming up enough I wanted to address it here. A long time ago there was a hill in my hometown where all the rich people lived. They seceded from the city and made their own city so their taxes wouldn't be used to help the poors. Rich kids didn't go to my high school.

I've been to a chiropractor sime time after a neck injury. Informed her specifically to be gentle on my neck because of that. She massaged my neck to get me relaxed and then suddenly twisted it to "crack" it. I almost reflexively punched her, but stopped myself just in time. She could have permanently paralysed me. Never will go to a chiropractor again.

She was just a pretty, smart, socially capable but not aggressively popular girl with professional parents and became a similarly respectable adult. I’d like to feel bitter about it but I can’t— if I were a successful doctor who could have his pick of women, I’d marry her, too.

One became a teacher at our high school. He was funny and class president and everyone legitimately liked him. I guess it’s kind of strange he found his place where he was successful as a kid and just stayed there but I think his genuine love for the place probably adds to his appeal to the kids.

I lived in a town known for it's oil refineries and chemical plants. Most of the popular kids I knew got hooked up right out of high school with good jobs at the plants and are now in high-level management positions making high six figures. Some of them went to college and are entrepreneurs for various things, like one dude has his own fitness supplements and another guy has a marketing consultancy.

Nearly all of the popular girls left Houston and went to college in Dallas. I don't know what they went for. They are now all in real estate or are housewives, and the majority of them married much older men. Several of them have been "grandmas" since they were around 30.

Same! I graduated in 97 and was trying to think of who the popular kids might have been. I was definitely not one of them, but I moved to a different continent and was never inclined to attend a high school reunion.

When our first reunion rolled around, I asked my friend if he was going. "He|| no, Id rather spend that money on having a good time with friends!" This sums it up for me, too.

The popular guys became businessmen, and the popular girls all became physical therapists for some reason. The latter actually came in handy; I showed up at the class reunion shortly after a nasty bicycle accident so I got plenty of free advice.

High school wasn't a great time for me. The popular students weren't unkind, but I didn't try keeping up with them. Also, it was 45 years ago.

I bumped into the most popular guy at my high school after about twenty years of working in IT. He was still good looking and was in a senior position. He talked down to me just like he had in high school and made me feel like a kid again, but not in a good way.

I wouldn't say ultra popular but definitely more so than I was. Last time I saw her was at the 20th reunion. She was there by herself, looking worn and haggard, desperately trying to hook up with any guy who happened to show up alone.

When your clothes are ragged K-Mart specials, when four food groups aren't always in the budget, when your teeth are crooked because your parents can't afford a dentist, when your grades nosedive because your parents can't afford glasses, people look at you differently and treat you differently, and it can impact how you see yourself for the rest of your life. Add in emotional problems, domestic violence in the home, parents always working meaning less supervision at home, meaning more opportunities to get in trouble ... it adds up. Compare that to how people treat the kids in the nice, clean, well-pressed clothes, the kids with nice haircuts and straight teeth, whose parents pay someone to tutor them, who get 3 square meals a day, and whose sleep isn't interrupted by shouting neighbors and gunfire. Your childhood doesn't define the rest of your life, but it sure has an impact.

One of the popular girls, who was born with type 1 diabetes, married her high school sweetheart, had a few kids, and passed away in her late 20s. Very Steel Magnolias 😔

Nationally ranked high school halfback. Put all sports aside in college to concentrate on his education. Built a flourishing business which he sold off when he was 40. Went back to school to get a PhD in business. Now a professor at a major university teaching others to do what he did .

Two different schools, different states. Don't really know about the kids from the first one, but I was told they pretty much all figured out they were big fish in tiny ponds. Second one was so big (4000 students) that it's not likely to have a Popular Kid. AFAIK the one well-known, nice guy band kid is doing well for himself. Handsome af, well-traveled. Valedictorian a year or two beneath me is a convicted murderer's son, seemed like he was surprisingly stable but last I saw he's doing some BS ponzi scheme kind of course.

I couldn't care less what all the people I was at high school are doing now. No one was nice to me in school so as soon as I graduated in 2000 I dropped off the radar. One person I was "friends" with found out where I worked and now I randomly get all my other "friends" drop in.

I'm still in contact with the hottest, most popular guy in highschool. He's happily married to a stunning (inside and outside) with 2 kids and a good job. He's a nice guy and I wish him nothing but happiness. I have no idea about the popular girls.

Top boy in the year (all boys school) (never missed a day, tried almost every sport at least once, captaining virtually all of them) and top marks in all of them was hugely popular with both the sports lovers and the nerds. Did sports management before leaping into technology and now lives and works in NYC.

There was one attempt by someone in my (equivalent of high school) class to arrange a 20 year reunion. I never bothered to reply and just laughed when a second letter came that said the reunion had been moved to a smaller venue due to lack of interest.

One of the joys (and banes) of growing up in small towns is that you know everyone, and everyone knows you, and your family lol. My graduating class didn't even have 40 students. Most of our class is just out there living their lives-ups and downs abound. A bunch still live in and near our hometown. Some, including the worst bullies (in my class and others), have been experiencing the consequences of their actions back in HS, and as adults too. They seem to be stuck in surprised pikachu mode at the gall karma has to dare tread their threshold. I don't think most people care about how those people are doing today, though, they were pretty heinous people and some never outgrew it.
