Let me just tell you that the oldest millennials have turned 42 this year. And while we’re well aware of the fact we’re no kids, we don’t feel that ancient either. Dad jokes and cargo pants seem to be a boomer thing, but what if we’re not that far from them?

So today, my fellow millennials, we’re about to feel not just old, but ancient thanks to this walk down memory lane right back to our simpler and happier childhood days.

“The Ultimate '80s Page” Facebook page is a notorious source for nostalgia–inducing content, and below we wrapped up some of the best examples shared here. The page’s whopping 2.7M followers show just how much we all relate to the long gone days, and honestly, it’s no surprise.

Sounds like my childhood….in the ‘50s. But we only had 4 TV stations. On our black & white TV.

You enjoyed what you had because it was what you had. It wasn't better or worse than anyone else's childhood.

Thank you. This is one rose-tinted cliche that really bugs me. And I was a kid in the 70s. Never did most of this stuff. No internet, etc, of course, but is it so bad my 16 year old can talk to her friends any time she wants, without needing to hog the landline and sit in the middle of the house to do so (or wherever the landline was hard-wired in). They kept in touch daily with a friend who was in hospital for 3 months, they talk over math problems after school assessments. As you say, every time has its benefits and its downsides.

My kids are gen z and have done every one of these things. (Chased down an ice cream truck just last week!) This childhood still exists. You just have to be intentional about it. It's not the default anymore.

It can still happen today, if you're blessed enough to have a family that's more into being outside than in. I'm fortunate that my son and his wife have prioritized outdoor activities with my grandkids. They're minimalist, live in a very small but lovely home and put their money into experiences, rather than stuff (although they do spend quite a bit on sporting gear). Having a stable income and living in the country enables them to do that - many are not so fortunate.

Lots of this is not accurate. I grew up in NYC. Not a place to ride bikes around back in the 80's. I only ever saw blueberries at the supermarket. The streetlights were always on.

Was a main reason we decided to move from a city to a small town in the countryside, so our kids can have the bit more freedom - I do miss going into the city for a wander when I was bored but I much prefer the space and fresh air where I live now - plus the house prices are a fraction of what we would've paid for the same sized house in Glasgow - my brother is much nearer the city and his house is maybe a third of the size of ours and triple the price

Me too. Such a sweet soul. Messed up a bit, here and there, but who amongst us didn’t mess up when we were younger? It’s just a shame that, once he got it together, it just couldn’t then be perfect for him. I know he was physically ill, which was a factor in his death, I just wish he could’ve had a couple decades of all around perfect years. He deserved it.

Lauren McMenemy, a professional writer, journalist, and writing coach who runs workshops and training to help people get their words down right, told Bored Panda that the immediate thought when someone says "1980s" is the cliches: “neon, big hair, shoulder pads, power ballads. It was an era of multitudes.”

She commented: “There was indeed that break-out fun, bright and fluffy, everyone's excited angle - but there was also the ‘Greed is Good’ angle, the Wall Street tycoons, the money-at-all-costs which really started to dominate at this time (and still does).”

I TRIED to sing it in my head but stumbled on the fact you got the lyrics wrong. Not a lot - just enough to throw it off. Correct lyrics are: Oh Mickey, you're so fine You're so fine, you blow my mind Hey Mickey, hey Mickey Oh Mickey, you're so fine You're so fine, you blow my mind Hey Mickey, hey Mickey

On the other hand, real cameras liked this forced you to learn good photography: lighting, distance, framing, exposure, etc. I've been taking pictures since I was around age 8, and started off with a Kodak Instamatic. My pictures nearly always turned out fine, although it's nicer now to see things immediately and delete what you don't want.

You could almost tell a personality by brand for the most part. Camel and Old Gold: yo, wadda you lookin at? Virginia Slim (Preppie girl); Eve (Hippie girl); Kent (stole your moms?) Winston (stole your dad's) Everyone else smoked Marlboro Red and Salem. For my use of "girl" if anyone is upset about gender labeling, well back then we only had 3 sexes. Male, Female and Bi. Back then Bi covered everything else. Ah, life was so much simpler.

I lived on the Chain O' Lakes in Illinois. So a bunch of lakes connected to each other. One had a McDonald's with a pier. So at about 11 a friend comes across the lake on a broken off piece of pier using a pole to propel herself. Picks me up. We are heading out planning to go a couple of lakes over when her dad catches us coming around the channel. Never made it to McDonald's, and my parents never found out.

Lauren argues that what was unique about the '80s - aka her childhood - “was the sense of adventure and exploration, particularly as technology started to infiltrate the home. It was the first era of home computing consoles, of Nintendo and Atari.” So for her, as a kid, it was the absolute best time.

Classic Oregon movie. Astoria was used in a lot of movies back then. It's where they shot Short Circuit, Kindergarten Cop, Free W***y, The Black Stallion. It's one of those picturesque little towns. You can still visit the Goonie's house. Just be respectful to the people who live there. They get a lot of traffic.

...and you are unable to lift up yourself because you spontaneously suffered a herniated disc while turning the wheel and the pain is causing you to linger in a crouch until you either get a harp from the doctor, or you can only hold back a knocking bowel movement in a state of cold sweat and tears.

Since the '80s style, from clothing to music, has been coming back to fashion in recent years, we asked Lauren why she thinks this bygone era has this enduring appeal.

Lauren believes that there isn't anything unique about the '80s that's driving this comeback. “As humans, we are inherently nostalgic, and there seems to be a trend that we go back every 30 and/or 50 years.”

In fact, Lauren argues, “in the '80s, we were obsessed with the '50s. In the '90s, it was the '60s, and so on. It's a long enough time-lapse that we can remember things with rose-tinted glasses.”

I can remember when the whole restaurant was smoking allowed. And I remember when they were segregated into smoking and non-smoking sections. And I remember the relief when smoking was finally banned. Even when segregated I invariably got sat right beside the smoking section and you still had to breath second hand smoke.

Yep, smoking was common everywhere. I even smoked on a plane in the 80's. I can't believe that was ever legal and so commonplace that no one thought twice about it. That is one thing about that era I regret, I wish I never smoked, but basically everyone did, so it was inevitable.

We also asked Lauren what’s her favorite '80s thing, and she said it’s “Back to the Future. Hands down, my favorite movie ever. And you get the double whammy of '80s and '50s nostalgia, too!”

“I'm also partial to hair metal and power ballads; put on The Final Countdown by Europe and I'll sing at the top of my lungs,” she added.

In the UK, they had a teltale in the top-right corner of the screen: When it started flashing black/white it was a signal to the TV staff to get the adverts ready to roll. If you were able to look for it (not too engrossed in the programme) then you could spot it and get ready in front of the VCR to pause the recording.

For me it's when I rewatch old shows and realize I'm now older than the characters. I remember watching them years ago and thinking they're 'adults'. Now I'm older than them and I'm nowhere near the 'adultiness' that their characters were at that age, if that makes sense. I rewatched an episode of x-files the other day and I realized I'm now 10 years older than Mulder. I'm older than almost all the characters on West Wing. I'm rewatching Top Chef and I just watched the 3rd season where the 42 year old contestant was considered the 'grandma'.

My dad would regularly put me in the back of the pick up truck and we went for rides. Highways and all. They ended up making it illegal because obviously if you get into an accident you're going to die and there are no seat belts. But it was my favorite thing. Wind in my hair, cd player with my headphones on jamming to my favorite music, fresh air.... I miss it. Part of me wishes I could afford a convertible.

12 hour trips in the Malibu Classic. So bored. You could really only read, maybe play cards and fight with your siblings. Dad acted like bathroom breaks were a tragedy. But at drive-in movies, we were allowed to take our blankets and watch the movie on the Malibu's roof. Good times. fam-car-64...3dca50.jpg fam-car-64304343dca50.jpg

a more modern version is still used. I've only ever seen black ones but they're a lot sleeker and easier to handle. It connects digitally to the projector above the whiteboard. My district is lucky enough to have them! I remember when I was little and we didn't have those in classrooms. In kindergarten at least there were those little old tvs on a cabinet in the corner of the room, so they were basically on the ceiling. That's how we watched the morning announcements. I remember the neck pain ugh lol

There wasn't an issue with taking notes since the teachers used a new page for everything (so you could ask to see them before they got washed off) But dang the edges of those pages were terrible sharp.

I love Mel Brooks movies! Spaceballs is my lifelong favorite movie. My family still has NO idea that I named our family business for that movie XD We have a housecleaning service and when we went independent after 10 years as a franchisee, my mom asked what we should call the new business. Cool as a cucumber, I said "Mega Maid." We've been Mega Maids since 2003 XD My mom and sister just thought it "sounded good". Don't tell them the truth XD

The key is being able to take it as good as you give it. The new Hulu series is funny as hell, too. So glad they've kept the Jews in Space joke running.

I had an '84 Skylark that caught on fire every 10 miles. I'd pull over, open the hood, throw some slush from the side of the road on it and be on my way only to have to do it again a few miles later. I hated that stupid car.

I had an '81 Skylark. Got me through my senior year of highschool ('89-90), made it across 2 states and lasted through college, before it started breaking down on me. Gave it to my brother then and he used it through his highschool years. Guess they built them better than the year yours was.

I remember when they went from 10 cents, to 25 cents. I got so mad because it's such a huge jump, then they changed it to 35 cents and I was beside myself, lol. I know payphones still exist and I can't even imagine what they charge now. "It's one phone call, what can it cost, 10 dollars?" That's basically what I'm expecting now.

Lol I can still hear his laugh. And his cheesy jokes. Considering how silly this was, some of those episodes were seriously x-rated. In most episodes there was always a raunchy sex scene. But every kid I knew used to watch it. I remember the episode where the woman was a gargoyle, and all the guy had to do was not tell anyone and he did and they all turned back into gargoyles, including his kids. That one and the movie with Christian Slater come to mind the most.

I heard an English lady tell of how, in the late 1960s, the theatre/dance hall her dad ran booked David Bowie's band for a night. Only David turned up, the rest ofthe band bailed. But David went on, and did a whole show on his own. Afterwards the dad/manager paid David and said he had real talent and should get manager. David asked 'would you like to manage me?'. Dad/manager said thanks, but no thanks. And his daughter never let him forget that he turned down David Bowie.

There is a whole story behind the company that designed and helped build them- how they developed the fundraising process, how they got communities involved in them. I read an in-depth article about it that would be fascinating to any 80s kid; I believe there was a documentary in the works about it. I will try to find some helpful links for my fellow 80s kids and edit to add them if I can

I can remember my cousins and I playing with the box my grandparents new tv came in. The box went through many transformations (house, fort, car) before it fell apart and we just used it to slide down the stairs. There is a videotape somewhere of my grandmother taking a ride down her big central staircase (about 25 steps) on the cardboard. She was a hell of a fun lady. I miss you, me-ma.

Dan Aykroyd kissed me at my bachelorette party at the House of Blues in Los Angeles. Didn't realize at the time he's older than my mother.

I was a child of the 60s and 70s. When I was about 6 years old, my father threw me into the lake to "teach me to swim". He had to dive in and pull me up from the bottom. I'm now 66 years old. I never learned to swim and I'm terrified of deep water. Parents were crazy back in the day.

Swizzles! I usually opted for the candy necklace, though. Wrapped it around my wrist/arm. Now you know why my arm was moist enough to "tattoo" with silly putty. Also, for anyone about yo hold me up as some sort of germ paragon because we were "just built stronger", I did get bacterial meningitis at 6 that nearly killed me. So, please don't do that. Minimalism is killing every ounce of creativity in several industries, especially food. A great comparison is logos. McDonald’s became an M, Chanel: two Cs, Sometimes Walt Disney appears as a single D, etc. And the latest brands/companies just have their names in solid fonts. Not even fancy ones.

    Kate Jones

It's not just for minimalism; it's also this ridiculous need to respond to critics. People protest places like Mcd's, burger king et all for selling exactly what they tell you they're selling-- yummy food that appeals to kids. Suddenly everyone starts talking about how it's promoting unhealthy lifestyles, instead of parenting and saying no to the kids. And then, when those companies give them what they want, they don't buy them because they don't taste as good. They aren't buying healthier items. I worked at mcds for years and the healthy stuff sold the least. You know what I want? I want a restaurant to come out and say "This is our menu. We aren't responsible for your diet or your self-control. We have some things that are worse than others. If you don't want your kid to eat it, don't bring them here." I'd respect that more. I'm fine with adding healthy options but don't take away the yummy food because you want to give in to them.

I see your 'V' and raise you Battlestar Galactica and Manimal. The theme to Battlestar was amazing. I used to be so mad if I missed it. Now you couldn't pay me to watch intros, I don't care how good they are. And Manimal's concept was so insane. A man who can change himself into any animal to fight crime? Sign me up.

"V" was awesome. I have kind of a crush on the writer, producer and director of the first mini-series (and also Alien Nation the TV series), Kenneth Johnson. His wife, Susan, thinks this is hilarious.

I think this is probably one of those shows that is best left in the memory, because the special effects will probably seem ludicrous upon a re-watching.

When you look at it out of context, it's not that bad. It's merely mediocre. It's simply the fact that it was done by the former Jefferson Airplane that makes it bad, because it sets the expectations differently.

These were my favorite thing at Taco Bell! I understand why they changed the recipe - it's not cost-effective to have ingredients that are only used on one product (corn tortillas, olives) - but they absolutely ruined them when they switched it up.

Lmao I remember being a small child think 4-7 and seeing an empty pack of reds anywhere and ripping them off for my parents. I'd come home with a few in my.pockets occasionally. We go to the beach and be like the Marlboro family for a year or so...the towel, the bag, chair, all kinds of stuff. I think that towel is still kicking around somewhere lol.

I find it amazing that cigarette cos can't really do promos or have billboards anymore, when alcohol hands down kills more people each year as we drive down road with drink alcohol billboards

I think I was the only kid at my school whose parents didn't smoke. My dad had horrible allergies and asthma. Because of my dad's respiratory problems, we always had air conditioning, which was great for the time.

This one makes me so sad. Roseanne was the only show on tv that showed what it was really like in a lower middle class household, which what so many people were. It was the most accurate to how I grew up and how most kids I knew grew up. Even the afghan on the couch was legit, lol. The kids were realistic. Honestly, the most unrealistic thing was how funny they all were. But I really loved the show and felt like Roseanne was one of the few people who stood up for that group. Now she's so batsh!t nuts conservative, and believes we're being controlled by snake people, she's racist and can barely put a cohesive sentence together. I don't know what happened to her.
