Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shocked the public when they announced on January 8 that they were leaving their position as senior members of the royal family. One of the most notable changes they're making is to deny a group of British press outlets first access to their personal press releases after years of press coverage and editing decisions that they feel have been unfair, filled with favoritism, and aimed to turn public opinion against Meghan in particular.

Since the announcement, journalists unearthed some of the British media’s most snide and judgmental headlines about Meghan and put them next to what the same outlets—sometimes even the same authors—thought of similar situations when fellow Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton was involved. Here are some of the things that British journalists only seemed to think were wrong once the former British royal family member Meghan did them. (h/t buzzfeed)

Your life must be void of any intelligence, compassion and interests if all you have to do is make rude, hateful remarks about someone who has behaved with nothing but warmth and grace. Oh did you notice the love that is visable on their faces when they look at each other? Has that been absent from your life for so long that you are bitter and soulless? Disgusting.

In 2016, shortly after the pair began dating, Prince Harry issued an official statement condemning the media’s coverage of Meghan. Among his complaints were one newspaper’s quips and tone-deaf euphemisms about her race and class background.

Since then, many have continued to speculate that the media’s general bias against her comes from resistance to accepting a mixed-race American into what upper-class white British people feel is an exclusive cultural institution like the British royals.

They're only toxic if you eat them. This girl looks well past the age when she'd be tempted to put them in her mouth. If she were a baby, then sure, it might be a risk. In any case, someone would be watching an heir to the throne at all times and would stop her if she did try to eat them.

One of the 'newspapers' most guilty of this is 'The Daily Mail' This rag has a chequered history and has consistently been on the extreme right. For example, albeit a few decades ago, they backed Sir Oswald Mosely and his 'Blackshirts' Fascist political party (no, they were literally proud to call themselves that) with the now infamous headline "Hurrah for the Blackshirts" Further, they were at the back of calls to refuse to allow Jewish refugees fleeing the Nazi regime's final solution to come to Britain. In this it was very vocal. In the years following the war it moved away from anti-Semitism but remains firmly racist in it's undertones. There have been MANY previous offences before Meghan but this campaign they have coordinated with 'The Express' is the longest of them all. Meghan has done nothing worse, or better, than any of the other royal princesses. Even non-royalists and republicans are revolted by her treatment. The thinking behind it is VERY obvious..

Royal Household staff stepped in and told her office politely, but firmly, that this was the queen's chapel and it simply wasn't appropriate. I don't believe they said no because they thought it could affect the chapel in any way. It was simply the principle of the thing. Uh huh. Kate can get ridiculously-expensive candles to scent the place she got married in, but Meghan was "dictatorial" for wanting essentially the same? Though I think sprays could have potentially been harmful to ancient veneers or paintings--but only if they were sprayed directly onto them. I personally would have preferred candles or gone old school with braziers & incense-burners. ;-) I can see the palace staff being stuffy about people making requests regarding things like air fresheners, though. They're after all, not just staff, many of them are also conservators in the museum sense. They care for items that are hundreds of years old to keep them from damage. But, really, Meghan wasn't asking for anything untoward that Kate hadn't asked for first. Media sensationalism tainting a person's Special Day. Awful biased garbage.

The British press also loved her then. The wedding was considered a resounding success. This article was several months after her wedding and the love that the press had for her was waning rapidly. Things were supposedly being leaked about her 'attitude' and staff kept getting sacked. Arguments about the tiara and 'what Meghan wants, Meghan gets' was reported as being shouted by Harry at staff and she is said to have made Kate cry... True or not I have no idea. I'm not into the monarchy but these things are over-reported and it's hard to avoid. One thing is for sure - the press has done this to all the incoming royal women and I really wish they'd stop it.

The reason they did this, is to stop arseholes making money off of them. The number of horrid companies that sold Diana souvenirs after her death, was atrocious and shameful. THAT is why they are doing this - so they have control over their own lives, their own privacy, their own identity. IF they chose to put their name to anything for the sake of money, that should be 100% up to them, just as it would be for anyone who is in the public eye. We hear horror stories of child stars / naive artists never making a cent off of all the millions-of-dollars of merchandising sold in the 40's through to the 90's, and walking away from their career, broke, and everyone is up in arms in defence of those artists. Nothing different here. And PS Harry and Meghan did it for their CHARITY, not themselves. FFS.

One said: ‘Her Majesty understands that it is a dilemma that many young couples face and acknowledges how close Catherine’s relationship is with her family." Daily Mail: Dec. 16, 2016

They're both called by their first name and maiden name regularly. They should actually be called Catherine Cambridge (they wanted to stop her being called Kate but it didn't catch on) and Meghan Sussex to be accurate.

The Queen broke protocol by allowing the unmarried Meghan to join them at Sandringham the first year. All signs of how accepting the Queen was of Meghan. It wasn't an honour she bestowed on Kate.

Kate and William: "Prince William yesterday backed brother Harry’s brave admission of his mental anguish — and blasted the monarchy’s 'stiff upper lip' tradition... William said: 'There may be a time and a place for the ‘stiff upper lip’ but not at the expense of your health... ' "'Catherine and I are clear we want both George and Charlotte to grow up feeling able to talk about their emotions and feelings. Over the past year we have visited a number of schools together where we have been amazed listening to children talk about some quite difficult subjects in a clear and emotionally articulate way, something most adults would struggle with. Seeing this has really given me hope things are changing and there is a generation coming up who find it normal to talk openly about emotions.'” Sun: April 19, 2017
Meghan and Harry: "Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have bucked royal tradition once again with their latest TV interview — in which they claimed they were 'existing, not living.' The couple ditched the stiff upper lip of previous Royal Family generations and flew the flag for 'Generation Therapy' as they revealed their emotions to the world - but were they right to do so? "What you make of 'fragile' Prince Harry and Meghan's comments may depend on your generation. Sun parents and kids reveal what they think of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex airing their emotions in public - and whether they have the right to moan in such positions of privilege..." Yes, she has been. Though so was Kate at the start. Meghan wasn't to start with and then they 'fell out of love' with her. All royal women seem to get bashed. Even Sophie Wessex was disliked for a while and Camilla was hated with a passion. They get nicer to others when bashing one in particular. The journalists should be disgusted with themselves.

Kate: "It is a fashion conundrum not many of us will ever face, but what exactly does one wear for tea with the Queen? The Duchess of Cambridge met this challenge head on yesterday by co-ordinating her outfit with the Queen’s powder blue ensemble... The Queen, on her first official event to mark her Diamond Jubilee, was dressed in a pastel hat and two-piece coat dress with military-style rows of gold buttons designed by Angela Kelly. Looking relaxed and elegant, her outfit was perfect for what looked like a fun official engagement with the girls." Mirror: Feb. 14, 2013
Meghan: "The Queen's aides had told [Meghan] she would be wearing a green hat as a mark of respect to those who died in the Grenfell Tower fire. The Queen is said to have been 'baffled' when Meghan turned up without a hat as she didn't realize she was supposed to wear one too. A senior aide said: 'I don't think the Duchess fully understood. This was not a request. Those are for others to make, not the Queen.' The Queen's staff are said to have noted the Duchess's mistake or 'lack of deference'" Mirror: Oct. 29, 2018

This one doesn't compare apples to apples. The first article is about Kate's ensemble and how it coordinated with the Queen's. The second is about how the Queen's aides informed Meghan she WOULD be wearing a certain hat, and she didn't understand that meant she HAD to, so she chose not to. It's apples to oranges. Here, someone is just looking for a comparison that isn't valid.

She should have been wearing a hat. Kate was born in the UK and has a far better understanding of the Royals, the family, the decorum and the press coverage than Meghan has. Meghan probably thought she understood press, but that's US press.. they don't want to be sued. The UK press is a different level and hard to explain, even to us in other parts of Europe. But if an aide nudges you to wear a hat, you do so. If I'm traveling to Morroco and someone nudges me to eat with my right hand (only) - I will do so.

But -- all we get are the headlines? This is NOT apples to apples comparison. It's not saying Kate rocked the world for wearing the wedges, and that Meghan wore the same wedges and got slammed. It's just saying the press liked Kate's shoes and that Meghan did something wrong protocol-wise. (Which, admittedly, is petty as hell, but it's not a straight comparison.)

This is just not accurate. It's been stated many many times, even before the Duchess of Sussex came into the picture, that The Queen hates wedges, so The Duchess of Cambridge uses them only when not in her presence. Plus, if you read thisbarticle they are using to prove The Duchess of Sussex is being treated wrong is literally states "thanks to that unspoken rule, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle both wear their wedges when they're not accompanying her royal highness. Both Kate and Markle have been seen wearing wedges before, so it's not a brand-new phenomenon, but it's rare enough to get some attention". So yeah, they are not exactly crucifying her for this, they are just pointing something out.

Kate and William: "The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh missed the small family affair. The decision is understood not to have been taken on health grounds, and to have been mutually agreed by the Queen and the Cambridges some time ago. The Queen, 92, has a busy week ahead, with high-profile celebrations in central London marking the centenary of the RAF on Tuesday, and a visit by US President Donald Trump in Windsor on Friday." Daily Mail: July 9, 2018
Meghan and Harry: "The situation has surprised some senior staff at Buckingham Palace, who feel that the duke and duchess should have planned the day better. ‘There is huge support for the couple in not wanting to conform to tradition. They are young, they are striking out on a different path from other members of the Royal Family and there is enormous goodwill for them. But they shouldn’t do that without regard for tradition,’ said one. ‘Her Majesty was already scheduled to be in Scotland for her annual Holyrood Week and had a prior engagement at the weekend. There is a feeling amongst some that they should have been more accommodating about the date.’" Daily Mail: July 4, 2019

Why not let the avocado tree soak up that rain and prevent a landslide, which I believe is way more dangerous. What's the big deal? the fact that British avocados come from Israel, the fruit basket of Europe?

Kate: "As far as bridal bouquets go there was nothing particularly regal about Kate Middleton’s modest arrangement of simple, seasonal flowers. Like the bride herself the bouquet was effortlessly elegant and understated. "Yet behind that modest posy lay a secret story. Kate, the commoner-turned-duchess, had painstakingly selected blooms with real meaning. She is evidently well-versed in the language of flowers, a little-known romantic relic from the 19th century. "Hence the use of lilac in her bouquet, which signifies the first emotions of love, the lily of the valley meaning a return of happiness, hyacinth standing for constancy, myrtle meaning love and the ivy, which represents fidelity. Then of course there was the suitably named Sweet William, which is shorthand for gallantry." Express: Aug. 29, 2011
Meghan: "[Meghan Markle] was holding a wedding bouquet which flowers were replicated in Princess Charlotte and the other bridesmaids’ flower crowns. Express.co.uk can now reveal the children’ crowns were made of flowers that can be deadly, especially for children. Meghan’s bouquet was made of forget-me-nots as well as sweet peas, lily of the valley, astilbe, jasmine, and astrantia... "Lily of the valley is a highly poisonous woodland flowering plant and ingestion could be deadly... As Meghan’s bridesmaids were so young, having this flower on their heads could be considered a dangerous decision. Other brides have also used this flowers including Kate Middleton, Princess Eugenie and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall." Express: Oct. 13, 2019

Question for you: Did you give even one tenth of the hate you spew against Meghan and Harry to the notorious serial killer, Harold Shipman? He killed over 150 people, and he hasn't even received a fraction of the hate that Meghan and Harry has. Where is your vitriol for him? NOTHING she MIGHT have done deserves this much hate. You are a horrible person. Also quite possibly one the army of bots that spew sh!t daily about them. In one month, over 20,000 articles were written about them by the BP, and the vast majority was lies, innuendo, and slander. Harry and Meghan are hitting ack though. They've already won two lawsuits against the Associated Press (Rupert Murdoch) and are suing more for slander. You should be ashamed of yourself. I'm guessing you're a bitter, jealous old lady sitting in your little dingy flat, gossiping about everyone. You disgust me. People like you are hated by the vast majority for your inhumane treatment of Meghan and Harry.

They obviously knew it wasn't toxic, otherwise they wouldn't have done it! I mean, it is their own daughter and no one would hurt their own family? I mean, I wouldn't.

Same story in multiple trash tabloids. All praising Kate and bashing Meghan for existing.

Good thing the couple is gone and living a more free and fulfilling life than being subjected to backwardness and racism in the name of a monarchy. Its plain for all to see how the Queen and her institution have lost sense of humanity. It's shameful. They have exposed their racism and evil side to the world to see even though they tried pretending to meet and find solutions but deep down the Queen is happy she lynched the poor girl. What a barbaric system called monarchy. This is no monarchy, it is barbarism
