Almost Some Beauty In This But It Still Looks Like Howls’s Moving Castle
Looks like someone wanted a houseboat instead of a house. Disconcerting because of everything jutting out or sunk in. Uniformity please.
Thanks For Sending This In, I Hate It
With all those windows it must be nice and light inside. (That was me trying to be a positive person.) Yuck! What were they thinking? (That was me being honest.)
It's like someone dropped half a house on a house, then put a crown on it.
I want to build my house here, No you're not I'm building my house here. So how can we both build our house on the same plot?
In the parallel world. Like Irish mythological creatures!

I kinda like it. circular room would make a good dining room or even better, a reading nook.
Doesn't look like there's any drainage. It's going to be a real PITA when algae and moss starts to grow after the heavy rains.
I like this one, actually. It's cute. Maybe put some climbing ivy on the little tower. If there weren't so many windows on it that is.
This Is Especially Useful, If You Like Getting Wet In The Rain While You Fumble With Your Keys
Just take a couple of steps to the right until you've unfumbled your keys.
If only they had evestroughs in Spain... like the one that runs along the front of the roof and down the left side of the building...
That stops you from getting a wall of water dumped on you. It doesn’t stop the actual rain, itself.

I just wrote above, "It's hard to be that ugly and that boring at the same time." And yet, this does such a great job at both.

These homes are literally on the road. I never understand why they allow roadways to be built so close to homes and businesses. There should be at least some type of barrier like guardrails or something to help protect the people inside the homes as well as drivers who could have a horrible wreck and end up going to prison for the rest of their lives because of accidently ending anyone who happened to be inside these dwellings that are part of some highly traveled roadways.
I Know This Is Old But You Can Imagine It Never Looked New
Every industrial area l've seen has the odd ugly and old factory/warehouse
Then it doesn't belong here. Buisnesses look weird everywhere

Load More Replies...Reminds me of my old next door neighbours, but theirs was two different types/colours of bricks. Similar shape to this but much bigger. Planning permit said there would be minimal windows looking into our yard, which I guess was true, if you discounted the fully glass two storey wall!
It's three houses. One with orange accent walls, one with yellow, and one we can't see.

dude, the windows are on the other 3 sides... Some people do this in the sun side, because it gets too freeking hot inside.
I grew up in a house with a windowless wall. Didn't look this ugly.

The sun facing side has fewer windows to preserve the cold inside the house.
I wish someone would have told whoever built my house that.
Load More Replies...Having lived in a number of areas in and around Madrid (for almost a decade), it became quite obvious to me that homes that appear to be boring on the outside, are almost always glorious on the inside. Courtyards, patios, lanais, gardens, fountains - just an amazing number of beautiful features that you'd not expect. Actually, the more plain a building might seem externally was typically just the opposite inside. The concept of "curb appeal" is simply not their concern...

I would stand there yelling at people that their mother was a hamster, and their father smelt of elderberries.
This is one of the classic houses in Ciudad Jardín, A Coruña. They are all substantially large, and with gardens. They are about a 5 minute walk from the city centre, and cost over 1.5 million euros on average
They look like some in Donosti, they have a garden and are right in front of the sea.
Load More Replies...It'd be nicer if they did something about the water and rust staining.
Load More Replies...I assume it's a normal, pretty nice even building that located on the different levels of costal grown. Garage not the part of it, just the same color.

You have a truckload of concrete blocks left? Sure, I'll have them... build a drab little parking compound.
Random In The Front, Castle In The Back
Not executed particularly well, but a large porch is most likely a godsend in that climate.
Ughh, everytime I see lion statues at the door, I automatically assume that a pretentious douchebag lives there
Interesting how this looks just like the #42 House, just from a different angle?
Slip N Slide 2 In 1
Do these carpenters not own levels or squares? The red roof is easily a foot out of square and the main roof sags like an 80 year old ballsack
Partners In Crime (Please Notice The Skewed Balcony)
No the balcony is level with the front of the roof, it's the wall behind the balcony that's skewed.
The balcony is level but one side is longer than the other as well as the roof overhang matching the angle

The angle of the roof/windows is off... I would have let the porch overhang farther and benefitted more from the shade
At first I thought someone had attached some weird lawn chair with a funky fake flower arrangement to the house. Then I realized it's an antennae array of sorts. I think... Very ugly, whatever it is.

Providing some stability for the corner. It's mostly cantilevered.

Please Dont Ask
We want a row of windows so we get plenty of natural light but then we also want a row of mini windows on top for more natural light but we don’t want the mini window row to be the same length as the big windows 🤨
This is a place right by the road. By guess would be to have some privacy they would cover up/put a curtain on the larger windows, while still getting inside some day light throught the small ones. Especially if this side receives a lot of sun light during summer, you would definitely want to cover the larger windows.

Let's let them finish building it before we start drawing conclusions about its appearance.
Indeed! The tiles still have the spacers in, they probably just haven't done the other walls yet.

This looks like a boathouse, but those are usually built at the shore of a lake.
That is the hottest house on the block in the summer and he coldest house in the winter.
My dog would absolutely love this house. So many large windows to catch the delivery personnel. She hates them.

Spanish suburbs. As every type of housing in Spain, ridiculously overpriced
A good choice of roof in areas where you get a lot of wind-driven rain, such as coastal regions, etc.
Some Days I Admire All The Unecessary Work That Go Into Stuff (Also Please Notice The Smurf Door)
There's nothing that wrong with most of these. There are plenty of people who'd just be happy to have a house.
Load More Replies...Looks like a 4plex. And the "smurf" door is probably access to utilities and/or storage under the stairs.
Needs some grass or a flower bed, but this one is rather nice.
What is all over the roof? Did they park that house under a bird filled tree at some point?

This One Is Not Too Bad
Looks people in Spain don't like windows. Windows are good! But that's just my opinion.
Bland, beige, and devoid of character. It's one of the worst. And I realize this is a silly thing to say about houses in Spain, but I can't stand Spanish tile roofs.

When You Haven’t Unlocked The Safehouse Yet
Isn't this the same house as #18? just a different angle?
Those blinds (and narrow windows in the staircase housing) keep the interior cooler...
I Guess Half The House Doesn’t Need Natural Light
In 'rich' (or profligate) countries, you have lots of big windows, whatever the climate, and spend a bomb on both heating and cooling it. In less wealthy (or more sensible) places, you build with the environment, so smaller and fewer windows to keep the heat out, and smaller windows to keep the heat in. In cold countries (which tend overall to get less daylight in winter, the windows are larger facing south to get the most light and heat. This post is about Spain, where they are more concerned with heat than with putting in aircon.
the side without the windows looks to be facing south. in that case it makes all the sense in the world to insulate against the pounding afternoon sun by simply not letting it in in the first place. i don't even live in spain and wish my apartment would be build like that, windows to the north and east or west. the whole west side of my home has no windows in it either :/
Another Weird House I Came Across. The Placement Of The Windows Makes Me Uneasy
Looks like they added the windows to the plan using Microsoft word.
If I had to guess, I'd say the windows line up perfectly with the interior rooms, and they're off-center on the exterior because the rooms on the left are bigger than the rooms on the right. Just a guess.

Means you can leave the windows open with fear of burglary. Normal in older Spanish houses, especially in towns/villages with narrow streets.

Fake Balconies 🥰
Those are actually common in Spain. It's only for lightning and ventilation purposes.
Ventilation? wouldn't just opening the window/door provide the same ventilation (if not more) . or am I missing something?
Load More Replies...It's a Juliet Balcony. 🙄 The person criticising this is just being far too picky. This style is common in the whole of Europe.
They are called Juliet balconies - an excuse for doors, which are bigger than the window that would have gone there.
Large potted plant on it so not fake. Not big enough for table chairs but still useful.
1. Why Do The Garage Doors Lead To The Garden 2. Why Is The Terrace Not Connected To The House 3. Why Dont I Have Friends
This was not originally a house. The garage doors have a ramp, that's indicative of truck access. Also, the cars are parked next to the building. This is/was a commercial building.

For Me It’s The Fact That Nothing Here Is Straight
Looks like they built along the existing roads, nothing weird here. That land was probably expensive, bulding square house would be a waste of space and look even weirder given the placement.
Everything looks straight and level, straight doesn't have to mean square? Only thing not completely straight is the partly round downpipe(?) and wavy roof tills... 🙃

Who the heck did this post? 90% of this houses are perfectly fine. Or the photos just show the back of it. Maybe it's because I am spanish, but I would even buy some of them.
Yes, it’s arbitrary and snobbish. A thin excuse to mock other people, and a symptom of the trend of divisiveness here.
Load More Replies...I really don't see the issue with half of these. Normal rural houses or weekend cottages. But l'm Spanish, so 🤷🏻♀️.
I am not Spanish and see no issue with the majority of this list. A house doesn't need to be a glass box (windows on every available wall), especially in warm places. (Or cold). Also, some are just built or expanded within limits: be it streets, covered old houses with added dakramen/dakkapel (the extruded windows on a sloping roof) so you can stand up straight and have some light in the attic.
Load More Replies...I assume the OP must be a USA suburbs denizen, used to seeing prefabricated paper boxes that look exactly the same, so anything out of the ordinary they deem as strange. Most of Europe has homes like this, literally nothing odd about it.
Some of these houses are being shamed because they look like they didn't have formal architects and contractors, they were probably hand-built by several generations of owners. Not everyone has the ability or desire to invest tons of money into their house.
Some of these look like office buildings, others look like warehouses, others look unfinished (which admittedly makes them look weird but not ugly, just unfinished) and the ones finished are actually nice. There's one that looks top-heavy that looks like a traditional Galician house that tend to be top heavy cause they have ovens and heating in the ground floor and living areas on top, so the heat goes up and keeps the living areas warm.
