Are you a Croc lover? This comfortable, durable and versatile footwear has ridden a tide of derision and hate to become a fashion icon, a triumph of practicality over style. Crocs have become the Nickleback of shoes, seemingly cool to hate on by unimaginative people who probably never owned a pair, yet the sales speak for themselves.

Now there are companies jumping on the bandwagon with ‘Croc-inspired’ products, like these gloriously colorful handbags from Optari. While they do not say it explicitly, Optari has clearly taken some of that Croc love when designing their tote and pool bags, creating durable and lightweight products that can be easily customized and make an independent-minded woman really stand out from the crowd.

“Sol Totes are large enough to hold many great gifts and will stand out among all the ordinary baskets,” they write on their website. “Then the recipient will have a bag that they can use all year long! Another great benefit is that the totes hold paint very well, which allows them to be personalized with a name or a unique design.”

“Our EVA material is super lightweight, plus super durable, washable and won’t fade in the sun. Ever go to the beach and have your canvas bag fall over? Our product stands up! Sturdy and your best choice for the pool or beach.”

All kinds of creative touches have gone onto the bags, as you can see they seem to be perfect for crafty types. Now available on Amazon, the range also includes a ‘crossbody’ which can be worn in a variety of ways and comes which ‘Fobbz charms’ that attach in the holes and allow you to customize your bag according to your current mood.

Predictably, the reaction has been divided. The usual snobbery about how ‘horrific’ anything remotely Croc-related has been doing the rounds, but for Optari’s target audience, young women and girls who enjoy customizing their stuff and just want a colorful bag for school or the beach, there is a lot of love. The reviews on Amazon are overwhelmingly positive!

Besides, the backlash against the backlash is real, and Crocs have had their moments in the world of high fashion too. When it becomes cool to hate on something, there is always going to be a subculture of hipsters who choose to be contrarian and celebrate it ‘ironically.’ Perhaps these bags will become the next big fashion hit of the summer?

Here’s a sample of people’s reactions to the bags

Share on FacebookA lot of these comments are negative, but these seem cool! Yes, "more plastic," but I don't see anyone complain when they get a plastic bag for their groceries or know that there are biodegradable (avocado) utensils out there and still use plastic ones on their picnics. Plus, the whole customizing stickers sounds great!
It would be nice if it was made of recycled plastic. That way people would have the possibility to have the bag they want, customized as they want. Honestly, I never understand the crocs bashing. I don't have any, but I see no shame for people to wear whatever the hell they like.
Load More Replies...They are recyclable. "EVA is used as padding in many kinds of shoes, including hockey skates, ski boots, and tennis shoes. Hot stick glues, which are used for arts and crafts activities, are also made of EVA. This is what Crocs use in their signature shoes."
Load More Replies...My gut reaction, seems popular based on these photos. Good for the beach, pool, or just a kid. This could be a good first purse because they look like they are easy to keep clean and have drain ports when liquids get spilled
Exactly! The 4yr old loved it as much as she does now at 8.
Load More Replies...Good gosh! How many ways can you take photos of an ugly purse? Crocs and pajama pants need to DIE!
Well, can be used as a bucket to put by the bed after a night of heavy drinking
Bored Panda needs to sell more stuff so they can keep paying their contributors to pump out more celebrity tabloid garbage and Russian-backed propaganda.
Where can I. Buy Croc bags from please?????? I luv them!!!!!!!!! xoxo
Plastic is destroying the planet and now we have Croc handbags. Truly our species will go extinct from stupidity; big shame we are trying to take the rest of the planet with us.
A handbag with holes in it for my stuff to caught in. Not a great idea.
Got purple 1 of these at Goodwill for gdaughter 4yr ago. She carries toys or to th beach. Stuffed animals live in it otherwise.
Not my idea of cute but it does kinda look cute on the kids but.....on the adults it looks wack tbh.
I hate them more than I hate the shoes, something I thought was impossible
I don't get the hate. It's strange to have a bad resembling those shoes (which are very comfortable btw), but I think it works as a beach bag. I mean the O-bag is hella ugly and bland to me, but that one is considered fashionable. Taste is subjective and I've seen way uglier bags.
This is what happens to a business that becomes desperate for sales, no matter what. Grasping at straws.
