Incredible U-Shaped Skyscraper In New York Is Unveiled And It’s Beyond Our Imagination

New York’s skyline is about to get thrown for a loop – literally. Plans have officially been unveiled to construct the world’s first U-shaped skyscraper in New York City, and it’s going to push the limits of modern architecture above the curve.

The Big Bend is an ambitious project being carried out by Oiio Studio, a world-renowned design team previously confronted by the city’s land use restrictions. “If we manage to bend our structure instead of bending the zoning rules of New York we would be able to create one of the most prestigious New York skyscrapers in Manhattan,” they wrote on their official website about their plan to circumvent the laws by building longest instead of tallest building.

If carried out successfully, The Big Bend will end up becoming the longest building in the world, surpassing even Dubai’s Burj Khalifa in total length. The skyscraper will require an elevator system that can travel in loops and curves to scale its unique shape, which sounds somewhat like a rollercoaster. We don’t yet know when to expect this world wonder on 57th Street which will alternate the familiar city skyline, but we’re bending over backwards to stay patient.

More info: Oiio Studio

The structure, designed by Oiio Studio, uses space effectively with its unique U-shape…

But doesn’t skimp on capacity, and is simply built long, rather than tall

The Big Bend will, in fact, become the longest building in the world, surpassing even Dubai’s Burj Khalifa

It was designed to circumvent strict New York zoning laws, which limit the height of buildings in the city

The building will require an elevator system that curves and loops just like the tower

The construction date is unknown, but The Big Bend will take Manhattan’s skyline above the curve when it arrives

Nobody has ever, ever, EVER, wondered what the world's *longest* building is, not if we're just talking about skyscrapers. In case we are forgetting the definition of 'long', why does the 'longest building' list not include the Large Hadron Collider, which has a circumference of 27 km? Better yet: Great Wall of China, anyone? Tallest bridge, maybe, longest building, no.

I'm sick of humans'megalomania. We could do so much more useful, sustainable AND beautiful things. But it always has to be bigger, wider, longer, over the top etc. just to flatter some already over-inflated egoes.

Stupid. Ego plays huge rolls. "It may not be the tallest, but it's the longest." After the twin towers, you would think they would put a little more.. thought into the structure and design of buildings. Maybe a little more...I don't know, SAFE? Less vulnerable. This is just asking for a repeat.. *** It is basically two buildings connected. It doesn't matter which building you're in. It will all fall down. Will you have time to notice and leave? Probably not. And what about the lives in the buildings around those towers? When it falls (it won't stand forever), it will take many lives with it. Not only the people in the building, but the people, animals, creatures, and plants around. Let's not forget about the other buildings and homes. This is New York. Will there be a domino effect? Oh, the mess it will make.. *** Yeah, I'm hating on the tower.

Looks cool But I believe that the elevator shafts ends at the top of both towers (before the arch) as the arch will be re-enforced steel to support both towers in place. Possible a scenic walkway with a glass floor to go from tower 1 to 2. By chance if the 2 towers get build as 1 facing East and 2 West, then the roof of the arch can be covered with solar panels to provide the power for the air conditioning throughout the towers. If in the centre of the arch gets a communications tower Then a appropriate name for the buildings: The Tuning fork. Hopefully one day when its completed To visit it.

After the twin towers, you would think they would put a little more.. thought into the structure and design of buildings.

That is going to invite a lot of stunt flying antics. How could it not?

Looks cool But I believe that the elevator shafts ends at the top of both towers (before the arch) as the arch will be re-enforced steel to support both towers in place. Possible a scenic walkway with a glass floor to go from tower 1 to 2. By chance if the 2 towers get build as 1 facing East and 2 West, then the roof of the arch can be covered with solar panels to provide the power for the air conditioning throughout the towers. If in the centre of the arch gets a communications tower Then a appropriate name for the buildings: The Tuning fork. Hopefully one day when its completed To visit it.

I can't climb up to the third step on a stepladder without pooping my pants, so there's no way you're gonna get me up in this structure.

Americans always want to be the best. Even if they have to invent the category :-)

They only build it that like that so planes would go right through it

It looks totally out of place, is ugly, & looks like a giant paper clip. And, IMAO "DESTROYS" the Manhattan skyline. They should not build this monstrosity. When is enough, enough already? Why don't they build something "beautiful" for once in the is greed-ridden city?

Good. Now the planes can go through them rather than crash into them.

Hmmm what would be the result if this designer used staples instead of paperclips?... and why not 2 arches in an M shape to extend capacity?

This is a horrible design idea. St. Louis has the Arch. Why does NYC want a paper-clip building? Dumb.

I like the shape but on the pictures it looks too big, imo, and thus kinda awkward and out of place.

Longest is a joke, much like the idea. Considering the Stanford Linear Accelerator is 2 miles long and was built over 50 years ago! Surely buildings are far longer than it by now.

it will actually be 6000 feet all in all, can't see any way to have that paperclip steady in the sky other than sticking half of it in the ground lol

This looks really cool, I like it. But I'm not sure about the placement. In the very first photo you can see it will mess up the great view of the central park.

Very creative idea. And I have to admit: It's a clever way to make the longest building

This will never get built because it looks exactly like a paperclip and a paperclip is a stupid thing for a building to look like.
