Incredible U-Shaped Skyscraper In New York Is Unveiled And It’s Beyond Our Imagination
New York’s skyline is about to get thrown for a loop – literally. Plans have officially been unveiled to construct the world’s first U-shaped skyscraper in New York City, and it’s going to push the limits of modern architecture above the curve.
The Big Bend is an ambitious project being carried out by Oiio Studio, a world-renowned design team previously confronted by the city’s land use restrictions. “If we manage to bend our structure instead of bending the zoning rules of New York we would be able to create one of the most prestigious New York skyscrapers in Manhattan,” they wrote on their official website about their plan to circumvent the laws by building longest instead of tallest building.
If carried out successfully, The Big Bend will end up becoming the longest building in the world, surpassing even Dubai’s Burj Khalifa in total length. The skyscraper will require an elevator system that can travel in loops and curves to scale its unique shape, which sounds somewhat like a rollercoaster. We don’t yet know when to expect this world wonder on 57th Street which will alternate the familiar city skyline, but we’re bending over backwards to stay patient.
More info: Oiio Studio
This is The Big Bend, a revolutionary curved skyscraper to be built on New York City’s 57th Street
The structure, designed by Oiio Studio, uses space effectively with its unique U-shape…
But doesn’t skimp on capacity, and is simply built long, rather than tall
The Big Bend will, in fact, become the longest building in the world, surpassing even Dubai’s Burj Khalifa
It was designed to circumvent strict New York zoning laws, which limit the height of buildings in the city
The building will require an elevator system that curves and loops just like the tower
The construction date is unknown, but The Big Bend will take Manhattan’s skyline above the curve when it arrives

Share on FacebookIt looks like you're trying to build a sky scraper, would you like it.. Tall? Flat? Round? Looking like Clippy?
Load More Replies...Nobody has ever, ever, EVER, wondered what the world's *longest* building is, not if we're just talking about skyscrapers. In case we are forgetting the definition of 'long', why does the 'longest building' list not include the Large Hadron Collider, which has a circumference of 27 km? Better yet: Great Wall of China, anyone? Tallest bridge, maybe, longest building, no.
TBH, that's just because all buildings have been basically the same shape.
Load More Replies...I'm sick of humans'megalomania. We could do so much more useful, sustainable AND beautiful things. But it always has to be bigger, wider, longer, over the top etc. just to flatter some already over-inflated egoes.
It's not our prettiest trait but sometimes it is the best way to move us forward, like getting to the moon. That was an ego trip.
Load More Replies...That's what I was thinking too. Doesn't have to be terrorists, just anyone . It's just st tooooooooo tempting

Why are we competing with Dubai anyway? This will do to the NYC skyline what that silly ferris wheel has done to London's.
because you must be number one! So c'mon, did it! Halifa bored......
Load More Replies...How would people live on the very top? And, when the elevator went around the bend, wouldn't all the people be thrown to the ceiling?
I assume it might be part elevator, part ferris wheel like it was designed for the Gateway Arch.
Load More Replies...Does that mean that one of the ground levels is actually the penthouse?
Are we all just going to ignore the fact that it is an "n" not a "u"
it's not a u shape, u is curved on the bottom not the top, that is an n shape, unless the world really has turned up side down?
What you'll need is a Wonkavator, those things aren't cheap and consume lots of fizzy lifting drink
About the elevator going up, round and across - if W***y Wonka could build one, it's possible!
That will be the biggest terrorist target ever. Bomb the bottom of one side and the entire thing comes down, probably destroying other buildings on the way down
I Approve Horse Shoe For Good Luck May God Bless America! Trump Era For The Win!
If it is built I wonder who will be the first pilot who will fly through it? In WWII pilots sometimes flew underneath the Golden Gate Bridge as they were leaving to fight in the Pacific.
Can we please be real, in that this is the ugliest thing anyone has ever actually conceived of, that the rest of us will have to look at all the time..??
completely out of scale... stupid and ugly... not needed either. It should and will be defeated. Go to Dubai where they need more ugly.
In my opinion (MY OPINION for those easily butt-hurt people) I don't like the way it's shaped. They could've just made it flat on the top. I live in NYC and I don't want to wake up every morning and look out the window and see a giant paper clip in the middle of the horizon. I like how it saves space though. I'll give the creators that.
OMGosh this building will be amazing when it is finished and so fitting for NYC!
not a particularly interesting design...and since most of us will never be able to afford to live there it hard to get excited about it.
Stupid. Ego plays huge rolls. "It may not be the tallest, but it's the longest." After the twin towers, you would think they would put a little more.. thought into the structure and design of buildings. Maybe a little more...I don't know, SAFE? Less vulnerable. This is just asking for a repeat.. *** It is basically two buildings connected. It doesn't matter which building you're in. It will all fall down. Will you have time to notice and leave? Probably not. And what about the lives in the buildings around those towers? When it falls (it won't stand forever), it will take many lives with it. Not only the people in the building, but the people, animals, creatures, and plants around. Let's not forget about the other buildings and homes. This is New York. Will there be a domino effect? Oh, the mess it will make.. *** Yeah, I'm hating on the tower.
You are american so love everywhere seek crytical moments :-) Like : "-oh my god, soon world would dissapear, and we all will die". ....... They wouldn't build tower if they are will wobbly.....is it?
Load More Replies...Looks cool But I believe that the elevator shafts ends at the top of both towers (before the arch) as the arch will be re-enforced steel to support both towers in place. Possible a scenic walkway with a glass floor to go from tower 1 to 2. By chance if the 2 towers get build as 1 facing East and 2 West, then the roof of the arch can be covered with solar panels to provide the power for the air conditioning throughout the towers. If in the centre of the arch gets a communications tower Then a appropriate name for the buildings: The Tuning fork. Hopefully one day when its completed To visit it.
Right..something new and MORE interesting for terrorists to aim at...
I can't climb up to the third step on a stepladder without pooping my pants, so there's no way you're gonna get me up in this structure.
It looks totally out of place, is ugly, & looks like a giant paper clip. And, IMAO "DESTROYS" the Manhattan skyline. They should not build this monstrosity. When is enough, enough already? Why don't they build something "beautiful" for once in the is greed-ridden city?
Hmmm what would be the result if this designer used staples instead of paperclips?... and why not 2 arches in an M shape to extend capacity?
Forget that 2nd idea... Apparently some hamburger joint copywrited that as logo...
Load More Replies...This is a horrible design idea. St. Louis has the Arch. Why does NYC want a paper-clip building? Dumb.
santa-barbara :-) Actually look great! But i don't understand, how people would live in the last floors.....
I like the shape but on the pictures it looks too big, imo, and thus kinda awkward and out of place.
Longest is a joke, much like the idea. Considering the Stanford Linear Accelerator is 2 miles long and was built over 50 years ago! Surely buildings are far longer than it by now.
it will actually be 6000 feet all in all, can't see any way to have that paperclip steady in the sky other than sticking half of it in the ground lol
They tend to fly into New York skyscrapers instead of through them #toosoon?
Load More Replies...but there is already 9 west 57th street building there. Whats going to be happening to that?
great, want more futuristic buildings in our cities asap :P lets plunge forward in time !
Very creative idea. And I have to admit: It's a clever way to make the longest building
