I Combined The Number Of Each Decade With One Thing That Defined It (9 Gifs)

Hi there. My name is Akber Ahmed and I am an illustrator who currently lives in Berlin, Germany.

I am deeply inspired by history and pop culture. As part of the #36DaysOfType challenge, I combined the number of each decade with one thing that defined it. Through the evolution of culture over each decade, we can trace our steps back in time. Enjoy!

The 1940 I interpreted differenly - the stripes stood for me for the Nazi deathcamps where people wore those ragged striped clothes. Also the way 4 is standing in the doorway and the stripes on the wall of the room resembled a jail to me for some reason.

Very interesting interpretation Alusair. In fact when I was coming up with the idea for this, I deliberately wanted to avoid any reference to the war that dominated the decade, but I guess it got out through the cracks in my subconscious! Your interpretation is as valid as mine or any other. I simply took my inspiration from Film Noir, but the image itself could represent several things. Thanks for sharing your wonderful insight!

Wow, this is amazing, I like the last 3 artpieces the most. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that i was born in late 70s.

Thanks a lot. Yes these seem to be the most popular ones, possibly because like you many of the viewers were born in the 70s, 80s or 90s.

Neat! Keep going; you’ve already got two more decades you can do (2000s and 2010s) 😉

Pure genius at work my new friend. Obviously a fella of my age would be partial to your offerings representing the 60s and 70s. Funny thing is I once took LSD while listening to Dark Side of the Moon. During the comeup I was chasing my girlfriend around with what I was convinced was a portable fire hydrant. “It’s the newest thing darlin’ check it out!”. Unfortunately it would be revealed later that I was chasing my beloved around attempting to pee on her and I’d managed to get it everywhere in the process. She married me anyway though so I guess it wasn’t that big of a deal... Look forward to your next work brother!

Haha I didn't see that coming! Thanks for the appreciation. I hope you're not attempting to pee on anyone else these days!
