I am a cat person. But somehow it happened that I have eight dogs: six huskies, a Samoyed dog, and a Northern Inuit dog. Obviously, it wasn’t safe to adopt a kitten having this band of doggos. But I wanted a cat so badly! So I started searching for the cat my dogs would be able to get on with.

After a while, I found out that in my country, fur farms still exist. On one such farm, lynxes are bred for their fur. Coats from lynxes’ fur are quite popular in Russia. But the good news was that it’s legal to take a lynx cub from there and to raise it on your own.It wasn’t a hard decision—I adopted a tiny baby lynx whose destiny was to become a fur coat. I named him Geralt after Geralt of Rivia from the Witcher.

More info: Instagram | Facebook | youtube.com | patreon.com

I rescued a lynx cub from the fur farm

Surprisingly, the dogs helped us a lot with Geralt’s care. They played with the kitten, allowed him to chew their ears, to sleep on their bellies, and, of course, to steal their food

And Banshee, our senior dog, took the baby lynx under her wing

Geralt was growing up a naughty kitty, but he definitely is the life and soul of the huskies’ party

Moreover, he’s familiar with one of my horses, Texas!

It was a long journey, but I gave him all my love and managed to raise and tame him successfully. He is something in between cat and dog

He’s a big, clumsy ball of fur

When Geralt was one year old, I rescued one more kitten, a cute baby girl

She got the name Bulochka, which means “bun” in our language because she’s so sweet!

Wild lynxes are loners, and I was ready for my cats to live separately, but Geralt surprised me. He accepted little Bulochka as if she was his daughter

Our friends were joking that we should name her Ciri instead of Bulochka

And since then, my lynxes are thick as thieves. Just look at these pretty sleepy noses!

After raising two lynxes, I can say with confidence that the most challenging thing in a rescue is health

Due to the aim of breeding on the fur farm, animals’ health isn’t a priority

Geralt has broken his elbow and a toe once, and he is a quite healthy and lucky one!

Taming and training the lynx isn’t so difficult. They use a simple cat litter box and are trained to walk on a leash

And they purr! The same way as domestic cats do, but much louder

Now, I enjoy my life with all my lynxes, huskies, and horses and I love helping people who decide to rescue big cats, to raise and tame them

And I hope that next year, I’ll be able to rescue one more baby lynx from the fur farm

What's wrong with you people? Why did you down-voted A.V.'s comment??? You don't like truth??? I'm sorry to say, but as Anastasia stated herself, "I wanted a cat so badly." So, she got a cat. What about all those other fur animals which weren't "saved" by people who want to adopt wild animals??? Have a heart and really try to save animals for their sake not for your selfish wants; get involve in the fight against horrific animal exploitation, join a reputable animal protection organization.

They should have gone to a sanctuary. They are wild animals and are capable of much more damage than you realize. Wild animals are NOT pets. This article does more harm than good as it portrays wild animals as docile. While these two may be relatively well behaved that is not the norm not should it be expected even from these two.

What is sad and maddening at the same time, is the fur trade. The only thing that needs that fur more than you is the animal wearing it. So, why take it from him/her? Anastasia helped 2 (and possibly soon a third) lynxes that would have ended up in someone's cold storage locker. I do not see that as being a better alternative. At least I can say that these two lynxes are happy, healthy, and that they are probably living their best lives. What is so sad about that? In life, we do the best that we can. The way I see it, Anastasia is trying to improve the world, one lynx at a time.

Can i clearefy (know i spelled it wrong) something without any hate ... buying a animal is not rescue ...its buying something.. a rescue is adopting , finding, freeing, understanding..lynx's are not pets ad all most people want to do is buy something exotic to prove a dumb point . lynxs are buaetiful animals that need to be free and looked on from a distances that's why we have cats .. they look so happy but sometimes happiness has a dark back story not saying you pets have a dark back story but if you found them sad or lonely that's better the but buying it at a despicable farm is vain towards your needs if you really didn't get the cats for your own self you would have been kind cold towards the farm or find a way to get the farm lock down

That would be a wonderful world. -- "As long as man continues to be the ruthless destroyer of lower beings, he will NEVER know HEALTH or PEACE. What a selfish person she is. Lynx are NOT PETS. They are wild animals. If you aren't going to return wild animals to the wild, then don't "rescue" them at all. They're beautiful - but she's also using them as a status symbol.

She is selfish because she saved two cats from becoming someones coat? ...come on. Before spouting off and ridiculing people you should do some research first. These cats are bred over and over, it's been many generations since the wild cat great great grandparents of these cats were out in the wild. They would almost certainly die quickly if released into the wild without any care. She has raised, fed, cared for, and takes them into the wild to explore and deserves some respect for that.

This so cool that you did this! Although i don't think raising a wild cat is the best choice, its your choice and only you know the best choice for yourself. Btw i love huskies

I can't even imagine killing something for their fur. Your lynxes are gorgeous, as are your dogs and horse. Adoption or rescue, doesn't matter to me - I'm very thankful that you took them from a horrible existence. Thank you!

.....if you won the Lotto, than what, Steve? You too would "rescue" an animal from a fur farm because you wanted a cat so badly? Is that what you would do?

Though I am hesitant to support anyone having big cats, as I know about the horrible conditions many of the big cats experience in my home country (USA), I can see that these two cats have responsible caregivers and that they are loved and adored. I wish all the best for this family.

I love this story! Shows you what we as humans are capable of when we use our compassion and empathy to direct our thoughts and actions. Good for you. :-}

What are you talking about, Linn? Anastasia: "I wanted a cat so badly." That was her motivation - selfish want not pity for those animals. Using our compassion and empathy is to fight against horrific exploitation, unconscionable torture and murder of ALL animals!!!!

Wonderful world, Jovy?? Is there not enough misery, pain and suffering for you???? If "people stop torturing and killing innocent animals they could live in peace. That would be a wonderful world. -- "As long as man continues to be the ruthless destroyer of lower beings, he will NEVER know HEALTH or PEACE. For as long as men massacre animals they WILL kill each other. Indeed, he who sows the seed of murder and pain CANNOT reap joy and love." - Pythagoras (570 - 480 BC/BCE) Greek mathematician & philosopher.

Ami Temi, can you shed a few sad tears for all the animals who suffer immensely at the hand of evil "people"? Or better yet, could you please join the fight against animal cruelty so all animals could be spared that unconscionable suffering....and we all, animals and people alike, could live in peace???

Even if you don't agree with the circumstances - all of them look happy and healthy so she's doing something right.

Hobbitly so if she didn't buy them to give them a good life then they would have just been slaughtered for fur. We don't know what type of training she has with these animals. They are probably perfectly happy and healthy there with her as they would be at a sanctuary.

I just wonder, Patrick, who created all that horrific sub-human monsters which impose such pain and suffering on animals and consequently on their fellow humans???

They are adorable. Thank you for rescuing them. I see there are a few critical comments below, but they are better off with you than the fur farm.

I love this story. Rescuing animals from fur farms is so important. Yes money is exchanged but most important the animals life is saved. And I love how the huskies have accepted them. You are a precious human being doing the right thing. And I'm very jealous, I would love to be able to do what you have. I just don't have the space in my tiny flat. Thank you for being so kind. Xxx

My dream life is to to have a old japanese-style house with a yard and a pet cat fox, raccoon, and wolf. And a large pond with 2-koi.

If people keep buying those animals, than the fur farmer would have no reason to stop. Cause they would still profit from it.
