These Twin Sisters Were Ashamed Of Their Incredible Hair, But Now They Became Famous For It

Meet identical twins Cipriana Quann and TK Wonder – the girls that make heads turn when they walk the streets.

A while ago, the now fashion models hated their luscious hair: “I was beginning to actually hate my hair and seeing it as a huge obstacle,” Cipriana said. But as time passed, they decided to stop straightening it, and start embracing it. Which eventually led the photo models to be recognized as the queens of natural hair, bringing Instagram envy all around the world.

But the sisters aren’t just pretty faces… Along with their friend Nikisha Brunson, they’re also the girls behind the natural hair blog “Urban Bush Babes.” “I think it came to a point where it was derogatory toward people who wore their natural hairstyles, and there was a certain stigma around people who wore their hair natural or in an afro,” TK Wonder said. “It was about breaking down stereotypes and derogatory perceptions that people had about natural hair.” Now, whatever the twins do, they do it with ambition, confidence, passion, and, of course, great hair.

“I didn’t have any creative freedom or creative control”

“So I quit modeling and decided to grow my hair natural again”

This is great! I grew up feeling different because of my big, curly hair. It's incredible how people seem to think curly or frizzy somehow isn't "normal", like you're some kind of altered species. Now I don't care much but I see my teenage kids going through the same insecurities. These two gorgeous twins certainly help to set new role models.

Hair grows slowly...very gradually. You acclimate to the negligible weight of it. (It is heavier when wet however...but that's temporary.) You wash natural hair of varying lengths and styles by wetting it, applying shampoo, lathering, rinsing...repeating. It's "harder" to have to regularly straighten/process one's hair with hot heated steal or harmful chemicals than it is to just take care of your natural hair. I cannot imagine how much time and work must go into looking after their beautiful hair. I have waist length hair and have most of the 57 years and all I need to do is wash it,brush it and let it air dry. I am sure it must take a lot more for these girls if mine takes hours to dry not to mention brushing or combing.

I wonder why they felt ashamed. Oh wait, I know why. https://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/01/opinion/when-black-hair-is-against-the-rules.html?_r=0 http://www.thevisibilityproject.com/2016/02/03/never-forget-021-there-were-laws-that-banned-black-hair/ http://www.thevisibilityproject.com/2016/02/03/never-forget-021-there-were-laws-that-banned-black-hair/ I hope they and the other millions of blacks who are ashamed kicked out of school or worse never need validation from the very race that oppressed and took away their pride. And before you comment on my comment as negative read the links I provided. It is important to educate oneself to understand the whole picture so you don't get a picture full of holes.

The girls look stunning, like others have noted, but, like other high fashion, this kind of hair is aspirational rather than realistic. Unless you make a career out of maintaining your hair, there is no way to go about your daily business with it. Also, big hair mostly looks glamorous on slender body (sigh), and I doubt that it would be equally extolled on your everyday imperfect girls. For characters in this story, though, it must be great sister fun to do this together.

If initially the girls had such a problem with their hair then why did they let it get so long? I have enough problems drying my own shoulder length THICK HAIR, it takes hours to dry, like 24 hours. I like Cipriana's look but TK's looks like a blob alongside of her head and her eyebrows are a bit bushy whereas Cipriana's look sleeker. Both beautiful girls though. I like Cipriana's look but not TK's, hers looks like a blob alongside of her head.

Beauty is in the heart, i know those girls have made peace within their hearts to accept and embrace what God has made them for. And truly amazing blessing to hear the outcome... They focus on what can they do with what they have, not with what they DONT HAVE ...

One thing: some of those hairstyles - especially where all the hair is pulled to one side of the head rather than evenly distributed - make me think that it would get be difficult to go through some doors. I'm guessing those ones are more for modelling than day-to-day life.

So wonderful! Women need to hear that they are, beautiful, valuable, and perfect the way they are! Natural hair is beautiful! Thank you for being such positive role models.

I love their hair, i have naturally curly hair, and when you learn to embrace it you start to work with it instead of fighting it.

These women are stunning! I wonder, though, if that huge hair is heavy and hot? As someone who has straight, limp hair, I envy them.

I still think that racism against ethnic hair is THE DUMBEST form of racism... not the worst, just the dumbest.

I cannot imagine how much time and work must go into looking after their beautiful hair. I have waist length hair and have most of the 57 years and all I need to do is wash it,brush it and let it air dry. I am sure it must take a lot more for these girls if mine takes hours to dry not to mention brushing or combing.

I've always loved nature black hair but you don't see it very often and that's saddening to me.

This is what the saying a head full of hair is referring to, or in this case two heads. Lol.

I know exactly how they feel because my hair is big and frizzy and obnoxious and I got teased about it ruthlessly. It's still a hassle.

Now these look like an amazing habitat... bats, bees, hamsters... whatever you like ;P PS. Yeah, they look amazing, I also don't believe they ever hated their hair - if they did they would have cut it a long time ago :)

It said they decided to grow their hair natural their hair natural again so they did in facts alter their hair because they hated it.

Hey, I hate my hair too because I don't suit it but these girls shouldn't have a reason to hate theirs. They suit that kind of hair perfectly, it just makes them who they are.

I think you're mixing them up. Cipriana has her hair in one ponytail, TK has hers wild and free for most of the pics.

Nope. They wear their hair like this all the time. Once you have natural hair, you learn to navigate it b

Damn those tall poppies! Honestly, I'm not concerned that they get attention or enjoy it. They grew the hair, they handle the care, they can flaunt it. :)
