It is astonishing how fast random opinions on the internet can ruin a person’s outlook on a given product of media entertainment.

But sometimes you don’t need some rando’s thoughts because the show beats them to it by imploding on itself through bad script writing, presentation, acting, or any combination of those three and more.

This inevitably leads to Reddit threads like this one, where folks list TV shows and series that started off very well, becoming instant hits, and then getting progressively worse for a multitude of reasons.

Scroll down to check out the best responses and answers to the now-viral Reddit thread, having over 30,000 upvotes, and why not perform all of the necessary formalities like upvote and comment and then upvote and comment some more.

Oh, and beware, spoilers!

Person Asks “What TV Show Was Amazing At First But Became Unwatchable For You Later On?”, And 30 Folks Deliver First few seasons were great with pretty good pacing. Later seasons devolve into telling one story at a time. They’d have a cliffhanger of a character maybe dying and do 3 weeks of other stories. By the time it gets back to the cliffhanger you have no idea what’s happening. That and it got repetitive.

They milked the concept too hard, around the middle it was just repeating the same stuff just with different characters.

The current (and final) season has been really good! Princess has been a fantastic character addition (along with Mercer), and now that they're at the Commonwealth, it's become more of a mystery show than a zombie show. And Negan has had an incredible story arc/character development!! So I'm still a fan and will watch it until the final scene!

Strongly agree! I used to love this show, I basically watch the first five seasons on repeat. People say they stopped when (spoiler alert) Glenn was killed. To me that was following the original manga, it wasn't enough but I was already getting away from it. Carl being killed was the end for me. I'm considering getting into the last few episodes because I want to see how it ends (and I've kept up with the story at least), but I don't recognize most of the names of characters anymore. It definitely sounds more like a soap opera or drama now. The zombies stopped being the feature.

Yes I stopped watching it a few years ago. Plus - wouldn’t the zombies’ bodies just be falling apart by now? Just saying. And just move to a northern climate - they can’t be trudging around in the snow to bite you. I’ve thought a lot about this when I watched it. If there was a zombie apocalypse - what can we use as weapons? I’ve got a huge fire ax in my screen porch just in case.

By the end of season three, it was just. Okay, life sucks. Life will always suck. There will never be a scenario where life doesn't suck. If there's something in your life that doesn't suck, it will die, or start to suck. You should all just self terminate and be finished with it. For a show like this to carry on, there needs to be some pathway towards hope. Like can there be a future without zombies, or a future where humans start to rebuild. There are far better zombie shows and movies out there.

I always find this equally funny, depressing and annoying. GRR martin gave the show runners a roadmap for how the book series was going to end up. This was it. So many people are upset over the fact that the "mother of dragons" who somehow became a feminist icon, despite the many, constant hints over the fact that like the rest of her family, was INSANE. Her ending was obvious. From the point where her brother was given the golden crown and she basically shrugged. The last seasons had their flaws, but people are just pissed that they invested so much into the dragon queen without really paying attention to the very loud subtext

For some reason people think I'm talking about the sitcom. Why? I'm talking about the god awful Netflix adaption. The first season was insanely fun. Everything after just felt like the most below bare minimum awful writing I have ever seen in any show.

Person Asks “What TV Show Was Amazing At First But Became Unwatchable For You Later On?”, And 30 Folks Deliver Was a fun watch at the start, but it just devolved into fake, staged tripe. Not sure it was ever real tbf, but at least at the start it was somewhat believable.

Person Asks “What TV Show Was Amazing At First But Became Unwatchable For You Later On?”, And 30 Folks Deliver I hope this isn't too unpopular, but the last 2 seasons of Arrested Development were absolutely painful to sit through. The story just got unnecessarily convoluted and was just boring.

Dexter was great but peaked at the end of season 4. Could not stand the last two seasons

I wish that the last season had gone like this:

Deborah kills Laguarta and helps Dexter cover it up. Angel finds Laguerta's notes and continues the investigation into the Bay Harbor Butcher in secret, with Dexter eventually being found out. He plans on running, and when he goes to see Deborah one last time, he discovers that she killed herself out of guilt. Dexter then fakes his own death to escape and he lives with the guilt, explaining why Deborah is his dark passenger in New Blood.

It became obvious the writers had no plan, had written themselves into a corner, and they started contradicting their own canon.

Person Asks “What TV Show Was Amazing At First But Became Unwatchable For You Later On?”, And 30 Folks Deliver It started out very much like a modern day West Wing.

But a key plot arc involved one of the key characters deliberately withholding his HIV status from his boyfriend. That's bad enough, but the show went on to vilify the boyfriend for being justifiably angry.

Because f**k consent, am I right?

If you really want your blood to boil, the showrunners had the boyfriend apologize to the key character ***for getting angry about being exposed to HIV without his knowledge or consent*** and we all learned a valuable lesson in ~eRaSiNg ThE sTiGmA~.

It was a goodish show for a minute, first few episodes, then pithy, hokey cardboard characters. The scenes between the President and his wife with sparkly sappy music, blech. Never liked Keifer as an actor, icky icky weird, pompous vibes. Never liked his father either.

    Holy [cow], yes.

While I get that it's supposed to show the cycle of poverty and how hard it is to get out of it, as the seasons went on the characters all became pretty [effin'] unhinged. The writers must've sat down and just decided that every character was going to make the worst decision every single time.

Yeah. After the 3rd season it was too much to watch. I didn’t even bother finishing it. Season 1-3. Both the brothers cant even hold a gun. They cherish life too much that they’re afraid to take one. Season 4. Suddenly they’re john wicking all around panama.

I loved Prison Break, for a time. But then they just kept rehashing the same plot line over and over. If you've seen the first 2 seasons you've seen the entire series.

Person Asks “What TV Show Was Amazing At First But Became Unwatchable For You Later On?”, And 30 Folks Deliver I have two candidates, hands-down:

    1) The Newsroom

First Season was absolutely stellar, exposed all kinds of problems with modern American news programs, and ended its first season on a high note with the promise of much more drama. How the second season managed to both fail so spectacularly and then unravel into a rushed ending remains one of the greatest disappointments even years later.

    2) American Gods

The first season was *perfect.* The acting was better than anyone could have guessed, the script was beautiful, and the first season ended right on track to promise a second season with everything that made the first season great. Unfortunately, *somebody* involved in the project disagreed with where it was going, got rid of the showrunners, and many actors followed them out. It never recovered. Moral of the story: don't fix what isn't broken.

I can't stress these two entries emphatically enough.

Falling Skies had cool things every season, but they were definitely running out of quality ideas or writers by Season 4. That finale was a joke also.

    I HATED the love triangles.

I really liked the fact that first episode just threw you straight into the action with the alien invasion already ongoing, most of the shows of this kind have kinda slow start, introducing characters and the back story. This was different and caught my interest straight away. I enjoyed it throughout, but I guess they could fit it in 4 seasons.

For one, Pikachu probably would be max LVL (LVL100) at the end of the first season, so why does he still lose battles?

    Similar_Vermicelli63 replied
Because Ash has the skill of schoolboy Joey and his Ratata. He’s all about making friends and loving his Pokémon. If the series was about him meticulously inbreeding and hardcore regime EV training; his Pikachu might not get destroyed every other episode. Gary understands the meta.

I still follow the fan theory that the whole show is just Ash's dream: He's actually in a coma from Pikachu's shock in the first episode. Explains why the kid is still 10 years old after 20 years. And why he's still as smart as schoolboy Joey.
