In general: make criminals pay for all cost the victim (or the relatives) have. Therapy, new door locks, surgery - everything. And if the criminal earns over a certain threshold make it percentage of income pro rata: if victim's costs are 70% percent of minimum wage, everyone earning more than that also pays 70% of their income.

In the US this is what civil court is for. I agree it should be part of criminal convictions, but a wrongul death suit or similar is the usual route for this.

Murder should carry an automatic life sentence, with no parole, unless there are strong extenuating circumstances. How can you take a life and then get to live yours. I'm Canadian and our sentencing laws are a joke.

The bird's owner was arrested for shoplifting. However, during the arrest it turned out that the suspect had a bird on his shoulder. There was no birdcage at the station so the officers decided to not only put the suspect in a cell, but also his bird.

My Mom's Boyfriend I Called Dad Since I Was 3
This case was technically recent though for me it’s been 14 year of heck. I got out at 18, turned him in, my mom and siblings initially sided with him. (One being his victim as well she was only 16 at the time). I lost my case in Barton county mo and turned down kc no offer to prosecute based on supporting evidence. Their argument was that he would not pay for a prom dress and I was mad (?) idk he as all over with try’s. It was the other victims being young and denying out of fear that solidified my loss. Years later he would be caught with his biological grand daughter, this reopened my case. 4 years later after and even a day of being on stand with a jury present for 8 hours of triggering evidence, he would be found guilty, I feel free. But not enough to let my guard down as he has promised my death since I was about 3 if I spoke. I feel like he should be seen for what he is.

Unfortunately and fortunately (depending on the case) it isn't easy to prosecute someone based off solely one person's testimony especially when other witnesses say the opposite. I am having a hard time thinking of a better way. Humans are humans.

My mother denied and outright called me filth and a liar, right up until her brother confessed, from there she swung between blame and excuses; her disgust of me was obvious. My silence was bought with seeds of doubt and her holding the reputation of the innocent members of my extended family over my head. Ironic then that the presents she would buy his kids every Christmas, grew bigger with the passing years. I should of walked away but she ground be down finding fault in everything she could. I was and still am the black sheep to all of them. I moved out and visited her rarely it was never mentioned. Stage 4 cancer, I think she was searching for absolution, she said she was sorry for all those years and fool me I forgave her, knowing she was dying. Then as I was leaving she push the stick all the way in "it wasn't really his fault you were two little boys *exactly the same age*, playing" Doubt ate at me, but her pride was a giant online family tree. He was 12 years older, I was 7/8 at the time.

I'm from a tight knit, trusting family and it took me THREE years to finally confide in my father ( and a police detective 🫣) in a democratic country with a non corrupt police force. I can only imagine how hard it is for attacked persons reporting an assault without reliable/safe persons to talk to or corrupt police or in "macho misogynistic countries"

Believe it or not: she worked at one of those Halloween stores in Northern California (Ramirez is held at San Quentin). And I saw her there one day, noticing that she seemed very odd/off. I noticed her as I was waiting in line to make a purchase. I probably would have forgotten all about it, but the very next day the local news ran a story on Ramirez and his wife - and it was her! She had befriended him as a penpal and they eventually got married, though never consummated the marriage. I freaked out watching that newscast and it then made sense why I got that weird vibe from her.

Wanetta Gibson (aka (possibly) Kennisha Rice) got $1.5 M from the school district (lax security, etc.) but fearing she'd have to repay the money, her confession was videotaped but she refused to speak in court to exonerate Brian. She and her mother ran through the money quickly and in 2013 she was ordered to repay the school $2.6M but her whereabouts are currently unknown. From Wikipedia: After being falsely accused of rape by classmate Wanetta Gibson, he spent close to 6 years imprisoned and five years on parole. Faced with a possible 41 years to life sentence, he accepted a plea bargain that included 5 years in prison, 5 years of probation, and registering as a sex offender. Banks took the deal after his lawyer told him that he stood almost no chance at trial because he would likely be tried by an all-white jury who would only see "a big, black teenager." His lawyer convinced him that by pleading no contest he would receive probation, but no jail time. With only 10 minutes to decide and denied the right to counsel with his mother, he took the deal. In 2012, his conviction was overturned when his accuser confessed that she had fabricated the entire story. Following his exoneration, Banks sought to resume his football career, later signing with the Atlanta Falcons.

I have a strong stomach, and I've read/watched/listened to tons of true crime media because forensic science is one of my special interests, especially forensic psychiatry. I'm not exaggerating when I'm saying this is one of the most vile cases I've ever researched. I won't go into too much detail, but at some point this girl's body practically started decomposing while she was still alive from all the physical trauma she's endured, and she begged her captors to kill her already. The head of the group was an 18 y/o male who was sentenced to 20 years in prison, the other three guys were still legal minors and received prison sentences between 5 and 9 years.

Widow Julia Martha Thomas, 55, was attacked in 1879 by her maid Kate Webster who pushed her down the stairs, then strangled her, chopped up her body, boiled it and gave the dripping to local children to eat.

Kelly Ellard was eventually released and she is now married with children of her own. While she was in prison she had day parole and committed another crime so she lost her parole privileges. She has never shown remorse for murdering Reena Virk , Reena's mother forgave Kelly.

I read an article about it a while ago which suggested 2 reasons for it. The first was that Columbine being so famous and having male killers means it is a lot easier for these boys to see themselves in that role. Also the myth of them being "victims" of bullying who snapped in the media meant they could convince themselves that they are justified in what they are planning, and further inspire them to use Columbine as a blueprint. The other reason they suggested was that male violence tends to be on the offence, while female is on the defensive, which doesn't fit in with mass shootings like Columbine. So a man is more likely to think they have been wronged and are justified to lash out at society as a whole, while a woman is more likely to focus on a specific person/people are a threat or she thinks have wronged her, and target violence directly

No, that's a different case. The story here is complex. It's often speculated that Shelia and Rachel were falling for each other and Skylar 1) was getting jealous and clingy that her two best friends seemed to be including her less, or 2) found out and they were worried she'd tell people. The only actual reason they ever gave was "we didn't like her anymore."

In the early days of Uber my friend ordered me a car home. The driver kept "missing" exits and driving all over. I finally told him to just let me out, he said he couldn't until we reached my destination. I said you keep intentionally missing my exits, he said no. Finally at a traffic light in downtown Baltimore I ran out. Ended up flagging down an actual taxi and got to my house. Yeah, that's how scary it was.

She says that she regrets it and that she didn’t know better as she wasn’t allowed to talk to people or have friends. Every person that would normally intervene or be asked for help were doing all of the things her mother asked them to do. She has shown remorse and has given insight to the people who study Munchausen Syndrome to try and help others in her position. The whole situation was just terrible.
