At one point or another, most of us have probably gotten ourselves into trouble at school once or twice. Getting sent to the principal’s office, having your parents come down to school to talk with the teachers, etc. is not necessarily the best experience when you’re a kid. In fact, it is typically quite terrifying for most. But you do have to do something extra silly or irresponsible to even get to that point most of the time.

These people took to Twitter to share their stories of getting into trouble at school… for ridiculously silly reasons. From sparing lab frogs’ lives to getting detention for chilling at detention without having been sent to detention, here are 39 scenarios where people got into trouble at school because of something very silly. Scroll down to see the whole list and consider upvoting the entries that crack you up the most!

For a lot of kids, school would eventually become kind of boring and repetitive. So it is no wonder why they constantly come up with ways to annoy each other or their teachers. Small acts of rebellion or silly stunts against the establishment that is school are not even necessarily bad as long as there is balance between acting up and being educated.

There is always at least one teacher at school who will seemingly go out of their way to scold or punish students for doing barely anything. But that doesn’t only count for school. That could also be your family member or your boss. So in a way, school does somewhat prepare you for life and dealing with real people outside one's safe bubble.

All in all, school is a place where people get ready for some important aspects of their lives. But a part of the learning process - the rebellion, the occasional prank, should not be met with complete shutdown and resistance. Instead, teachers should focus on educating their students, not pointing fingers at them for obscure reasons and calling it a day.

Was that punishment or were they being respectful by not forcing you into morning prayer?

Why would parents send an atheist kid to a school that required morning prayer?

A lot of faith schools have more money than public schools and it makes it easier in some places to get accepted into a good college. My sil sent my nephew to catholic school bc their curriculum was so much more advanced than the public schools in his area. He got into a good college too. Plus they don't have their arts departments defunded, the schools are clean and buildings are up to date as well as teachers being paid well. There's an abundance of supplies as well whereas a lot of public schools don't have computers that are up to date on the US.

We had an excellent Religious Education teacher. He would explain a bible story like: So, this snake comes down from a tree and says to naked eve, "You wanna apple?" and she said... wait, let me just stop you there... I will be honest with you, if a snake slithered down from a tree and spoke to me, I would clock it with a stick. Put it in a cage and said, "Oi, Adam! Check this out!" and made it do sums like 2 plus 2. 4 plus 6 and all that. When Adam asks what I have got, I would tell him "I found an Adder" I think he was the best atheist religious education teacher I ever had

Same, and many teachers made a point to tell my parents that in conferences, even though I was a model student.

I mean, I think making it like an exclusion/punishment, is not okay, but it's good that nobody is forced to participate.

That actually was not legal, unless of course you were in a private school. Then it is their rules.

Morning prayer? Id just sleep a few minutes longer and be late for that part. In the morning even 3 minutes are worth the sleep

i had a teacher who made us say the lords prayer every morning, i asked if i could respectfully sit quietly and not take part, as i thought it would be unfair for me as an atheist to say it, but also to disrespect their god by saying it and not meaning it. she yelled at me, so i'd sit every day with my head bowed and mouth the words

in my country, which has separation of State and Church, catholic schools accept non-catholic kids (muslims, protestants, atheists etc...) in the US where there is " freedom of religion " : "7 States Still Have Bans on Atheists Holding Office : Maryland, Arkansas, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas." go figure

Im sorry. I'm a Christian and I've been a teacher. The way I would have handled this would be to ask the child or better, the parents, what the feelings are concerning this. No one should be forced.

Honestly that might just be them trying to respect your feelings because if they didn't care then they would probably just pray in front of you or try to make you pray with them.

altho i am atheist to i would like to say that it is wrong to punish kids in grade 3 who have not yet the capabillity of choosing their (non) religion by choice but most likely follow examples from parents and guardians etc.

I agree. Part of the reason these parents probably chose to send their child to a religious school was probably so they would be open to the concept of faith so they could decide for themselves and this is the opposite of that. It would have closed their hearts more going through what seemed like a punishment just for having different beliefs. I am Christian, but I also think children should be given the opportunity to learn about the vast religions that exist so they can make up their own mind about whether they want to learn more or choose not to believe.

I love the Pledge of Allegiance, but I think the "one nation under God part should be removed" as I don't think kids with non-Christian beliefs should be forced to say something that conflicts with their religion or choice of not having a religion. I never even say it anymore because I'm Atheist and never bought anything in the Bible. Meanwhile, my sister: sCiEnTiStS cOuLd bE WrOnG i onLy bEliEvE tHe wAteR cYcLe sCiEnCe cUz I dOn'T BeLiEvE iN sCiEnCe i BeLiEvE iN gOd. I was the only kid w/ divorced parents in a Catholic school - the NUN told me to sit in the hall on a day they were discussing 'family values'..."because you won't understand it". I knew then Religion was a sham!

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I have Catholic accreditation for teaching (even though I'm not Catholic) and we are not even allowed to say things like 'we as Catholics believe...' because not everyone is Catholic and there is nothing wrong with it. It is actions like those that do turn people off from religion at an early age and it makes me angry that these people who are supposed to be nurturing children are doing the exact opposite. Their students should be viewed as human beings first above religion and cared for as such.

I went to school for awhile in an area with a large Quaker population. All of the Quaker, Muslim, and Jahovah's Witness kids were sent out into the halls while the Pledge of Allegiance (considered the oath an idolatry to the object of a flag) was said every morning over the PA and the other kids pledged along.

That's a little better than the paddling I used to get when I was a kid. I quickly learned to lie about it, which is of course what Jeesus wants, lying hypocritical people pretending to worship him because his power is so weak and his ego is so fragile

In our country we didn't have church/state separation till 1994. All schools were religious. However, because our govt is mostly staffed by religious people AND because it's a paper tiger, most schools STILL impose a "religious ethos" on kids. It's almost impossible here to find a school that DOESNT make kids do christian prayers etc. We even have NGOs that spend their time chasing schools about it, but they keep ignoring it.

Huddo's sister

That is so ridiculous that there are laws, yet the schools just don't follow them! I don't think sending kids who aren't religious to a religious school is always a bad thing, but where I am from there are clear guidelines these schools have to follow and the parents are well informed about them. Our religious schools (I'm most familiar with the Catholic ones) are completely separate from public schools but they have to accept a certain percentage of non-Catholic students. They are not allowed to tell children that they should be Catholic etc, but should educate about religions around the world as well. In relation to this person, they would be required to all be present for the morning prayer but not expect active participation from everyone. The expectations would be well discussed with parents too.

Oh my, I remember this happening at my primary school...it was state but we had an Evangelical headmistress. My friend Claire and one or two others had to sit outside the assembly hall because they were JW. Why they couldn't go to the library or something, I'll never know.

That does sound unreasonable. In my Primary school if we didn't want to do RE then we just had silent reading or homework catch up or something I think. By grade 6 there were only about 5 of us who chose to do RE.

Morning prayer in school? This enrages me especially if it's a public school, they should not indoctrinate kids into their stupid belief system. Religion should be only 18 and above, then you can decide with an unpoisoned mind for yourself if that crap holds any water, but I think after only one generation almost nobody would join their church. They know this, this is why they tried to get them young, when the cognitive faculties are not fully formed yet, oh and because it looks like celibate priests like to sodomize little boys.

Kids don't realize that school don't legally have authority on them. Parents solely have. That school is not a prison, they are free to leave whenever they want, and that forcing anyone to stay somewhere against their will is unlawful imprisonment.

Is doing nothing in detention common in many places? Only time I was sent to detention (in France) was for skipping German class and they had us take a super difficult German test and convinced us it would count towards our grade. Then they revealed it was basically a university level test and that we couldn't have possibly completed it and it would never count.

WHY!? PUNISH THE IDIOT NOT THE VICTIM! If someone breaks into your house, and they shoot you, but you shoot him back, you are not gonna punish the victim! Schools just want "zero violence" which does not make sense.
