40 Trends Doomed To Lose Popularity In 5 Years, According To People In This Online Community
Trends and popular things are, by their design, things that change and shift with time. Something that was popular a year ago is now considered an outdated reference, a popular meme can outstay its welcome in a month, and minor trends go in and out of fashion daily. Basically, just because something is widely accepted today doesn't mean it will have the same significance after some time passes. Perhaps to commemorate these trends, or just catalogue them for future reference, there are community threads online that talk about the trendy things that likely won't be cool in 5 years' time. One such discussion is hosted on Reddit, where people readily expressed their opinions about what they think won't withstand the test of time.

Probably not going to happen, but I really wish influencers won't be "cool" anymore.
Having the covid vaccine. Eventually it'll be as commonplace as a flu vaccine.
Some of the things listed by the community are leaning more towards actual items, such as so-called MLM teas. Other picks feature plastic surgery trends. And then there are those who think that the websites we use now will lose their influence and be forgotten or abandoned. Basically, the things that send people raving today, in 5 years, could be irrelevant.
A lot of the stuff I see people doing on TikTok seems like the kinda thing you'd be embarrassed about in a few years
man, i hope. a lot of small buisnesses have a pretty main platform there though, so i'm not really sure where i stand on it.
Trends are tricky because of their very foundation. Something becomes popular because it's new and exciting, it presents something that captures people's attention, but if it doesn't provide long-term value, it tends to go away. Just look back at the trends that ruled the '90s, for example. Those are now considered to be an archaic concept in the current climate.
Overly-processed Instagram photos. Especially in the context of makeup and skincare.
Hopefully Facebook. I never thought it would kill myspace and MySpace reminds me of better times when I think of how sh*tty Facebook handled the last 4 years
Actually, a study was conducted to find out what children used what social media platforms today. The study asked 1,500 middle and high school students. 62 percent of teens said they use Instagram while 58 percent use Snapchat. (Texting was most popular, used by 98 percent of the teens surveyed.) Facebook was, surprisingly, only 7 percent. (This is not copy-and-pasted or plagiarized. I wrote this by myself.)
Current plastic surgery trends to meet the current IG standards. I fear for a lot of people who have had BBLs and facial surgery that the look will become outdated and permanently associated with late 2010’s and early 2020’s, kind of how like there are plastic surgery trends associated with the 90s/2000s.
Then there's a rule of 'what goes around comes around.' There are cases of trends and cool things that were popular before, got old and abandoned, and then resurfaced when we least expected it. Of course, the most obvious cases are centered in the fashion industry, but there are other things too, coming in a variety of categories, such as names or even those same internet trends.
Hopefully the stupid “hacks” that people are coming up with. That’s not a hack
People posting pictures of a PS5 they just bought and expecting the rest of us to care.
Youtube prank videos
Well some youtube videos in general.
NUKING JAPAN prank video Among Us! (NOT CLICKBAIT) (GONE WRONG) (ALMOST DIED)
Zoom calls. I don’t wanna go back to the office, but I can’t take five more years of these..
5 day work week
If the 5-day work work does fade, I hope it is replaced by options that can be tailored to the needs of the employee and their family or current situation. That might be longer but fewer days, shorter but more days etc. Equalizing the needs of the business with the needs of the employee would be most ideal.
Everything Supreme. The s***** print text hoodies, the overpriced hats and $100 Tshirts, all of it
Corporations trying to be weird and relatable on Twitter. Wish it would die out now
Brazilian Butt Lifts .. I feel like it will not age well. A lot of plastic surgeries collapse over time or have complications as it degrades
Instagram is going to be an online shopping mall, far removed from the cool micro-blogging site it used to be.
The latest iPhone.
The latest iPhone will goes out of style every 5 months. They make new versions all the time.
Subscribing to multiple streaming platforms.
whats so 'cool' about subscribing to stuff i dont get this one?
The bowl cut. For some reason it came back in south Houston. Looks ridiculous.
That stupid yee yee a** haircut that all the teenage boys are rocking. The one with the short sides and mop top rat's nest on top.
Funko Pops. They're the Beanie Babies of the '20s.
Galaxy print is probably going to go the way of the bowling alley carpet patterns we used to wear on our clothes in the 90s. It'll come back ironically in 10 years
Hopefully Pokemon Cards, so I can finally afford to buy them again ...
McDonald’s in Germany is currently giving 3 pokemon cards with every happy meal lol. Gotta collect them all!
Facebook. Kids don’t use that s***, because it sucks. millennials are leaving in droves.
Facebook died when boomers were able to join. They keep the negativity and fake news going. It’s so sad how many of my friends parents or grandparents rely on a meme as a news source. The recent election was enough for me. I don’t use it anymore except for messenger
GTA V
Hopefully by that point we'll actually have GTA 6
Its like Fallout New Vegas no amount of mods will make the game prettier or have the quality of content that Rockstar produces. Its like putting lipstick on a pig.
Filling wooden furniture with translucent green or blue-colored resin.
This person must have seen some very bad resin furniture because I've seen some beautiful furniture come out of it.
Fake vents in cars, if they were ever cool in the first place.
I would say Minecraft but trying to kill that is like trying to invade Russia in winter
Yeah, it's currently my fav game and it's been very popular for years. I don't think it'll ever die out-
The obsession of having RGB LED everywhere and on everything.
coloured bangs
I just looked at the title of this post, all I can think of is "please let it be the Kardashians". Then my second thought was, "Wait, that means there might be five more years of the Kardashians".
I would like to see labeling people gone. No more labels or putting people into cubby holes to fit your agenda. People are people period. No more race labels, no more gender labels, no more sexual partner labels, no more religious labels, no more income bracket labels, no more age labels, no more intelligence labels, just no more! We love each other just for what we are and who we are. No judgements only love!
The bigot doesn't get to define what bigotry is.
