The Holy Men Of Varanasi Who Gave Up All Earthly Possessions To Seek Spiritual Liberation
Varanasi is one of the oldest still inhabited cities in the world and the epicentre of Hinduism. Its also a spiritual home for India’s sadhu’s. These holy men are revered by Hindus as representatives of the gods and sometimes worshiped as gods themselves. They are ascetic wanderers respected for their holiness and feared for their curses.
I had an overwhelming curiosity towards these holy men who had wilfully renounced themselves of all earthly possession and dedicated their lives to the pursuit of spiritual liberation. Their reality is dictated only by the mind, not material objects. Even death is not a fearsome concept, but a passing from the world of illusion.

Thanks for your kind words folks, I spent a good 6 weeks staying in Varanasi meeting with these guys regularly and the Babas truly are on another plane I learnt a great deal from them, especially Arsu Baba who I would see almost daily we had great conversations putting the world to rights. He spoke perfect english and was once a lawyer. He gave it all up after having to defend people who were clearly guilty. He clearly came from a privileged background but renounced it all to live at the banks of the mighty Ganga.
