Love these. We used to have some great abandoned places here in the San Francisco area that my friends and I would explore back in the 80's and early 90's. Old military bunkers, old hospitals, several movie theaters, the old naval shipyards. But, due to all of those places becoming bastions of drug use and violent crime (coinciding with the massive increase in the homeless population), they've all been either demolished or sealed. A couple of examples: The underground bunkers at Fort Funston. They still exist, but the entrances were welded shut with massive steel plates about 20 years ago or so. The Fleishhacker Pool building. Built in 1925, abandoned in 1971. Became a homeless encampment in the 2000's. Gutted by a fire in 2012 and demolished.
