My Trip To The Mighty Dolomites Mountain Range

I was looking forward to my trip to the Dolomites mountain range. I visited it two summers ago and the breathtaking views and scenic mountain panoramas stuck with me. I started photographing as a hobby last year and was planing to take as many shots as possible on this trip. I stayed at Cortina d’Ampezzo in a small family hotel Villa Alpina, which I highly recommend.

It’s not easy to get up at 4 am and then drive for an hour to the mountain pass. But the sunrises in the mountains are something special and worth the effort. The first morning I visited Tre cime di Lavaredo, which are probably one of the best-known mountain groups in the Alps. The north part is considered by climbers to be one of the great north faces of the Alps.

The sunrise was beautiful and I made several decent photographs that morning. In the evening I visited passo di Giau, in my opinion the most scenic mountain pass in the Dolomites region. The cottage with the grandiose mountain behind is one of the most iconic scenes I have ever seen.

Lago di Antorno

Lago di Antorno (lake Antorno) can hypnotize you. I was gazing at this image and was reluctant to leave.

Self portrait

I always make a self portrait or two, just to show how grandiose landscape can be.

Heart shaped lake

If you take a few steppes from passo di Giau over a meadow you will notice this heart shaped lake. Such a fortunate discovery.

Cycling is an important part of the Dolomites, mountain passes are perfect for training and the beautiful views make the climbing effortless.
