Determining whether or not someone is a lousy person isn't easy. Most people have the capacity for good and bad behavior.

When we're judging others, Dr. Maury Joseph, a psychologist in Washington, D.C., says we must consider the context of their actions.

"If a person makes the only choice available to them, based on their developmental history, the prejudices of the country in which they were born, and their current environment, does that make them bad?" Joseph asks.

Everyone has a backstory that explains why they act a certain way. Can we convict them without it? Let's do a test.

Here's a list of situations in which the internet (most notably, this subreddit) thought individuals proved themselves to be rotten from the inside. Upvote the ones you agree with and let's see if there are deeds that don't need the context Maury Joseph was talking about to earn you some pretty nasty labels.

He Spent 20 Years Breeding A Super-Bee That Could Survive Attacks From Mites That Kill Millions Of Bees Worldwide

ReasonsForReason Report

In a 2018 research paper, psychologists M. Moshagen, B. E. Hilbig, and I. Zettler suggest that what they call "D," or the dark factor of personality, lies at the root of unethical or cruel behavior.

D-factor traits include narcissism and psychopathy, along with:

  • sadism
  • spitefulness
  • self-interest
  • entitlement
  • moral disengagement
  • egoism

All of these traits imply that someone will pursue their own interests at the expense of others.

Falsifying Results To Save Money - Impacting How Many Families?!

kwhiseheart Report

Maybe you’ve noticed some D-factor traits not only in these pictures but in your behavior as well. However, that does not automatically make you a bad person.

Many of the choices you make affect people besides yourself, so before you do something (especially if you have doubts about whether it’s the right thing to do), it's wise to stop and consider whether your action might hurt someone else.

Passing on a workplace rumor to your boss, for example, could make you look good, but it certainly won’t help your coworker — especially if the rumor turns out to be a lie.

But if you don't care about the potential impact as long as you benefit, or you have a hard time considering consequences for others, you might want to explore your personality a bit deeper.

There are people who really, truly don't get it. My dad is a hospital chaplain. He's had patients with COVID who don't believe they have COVID. He's had other patients die of COVID and furious family members unwilling to accept that COVID killed their family member. It's ridiculous and sad. Get vaccinated. Social distance. Wear your mask. This s**t is real. Protect yourself and those you care about.

I agree. As both a parent and a former server, the table looks pretty standard. The floor is messy because it looks like they had one, maybe two, little ones. Most servers understand that little ones are extra-messy. It's what they do. What I hope this family did was tip extra for the mess. I always did when my kids were young and most parents I served usually did.

To be fair, kids in highchairs are messy monsters BUT yes, LEAVE a HUGE tip and do your best to tidy somewhat. We had a toddler totally barf on a table... We left a huge tip and apologies

Oh just clean it up, it's not that bad. Most of it's on the table. The food on the floor is from the toddler, and anyone who doesn't understand that this is just what happens with toddlers is either childfree or a very cruel parent. Yes, the mum could crawl around on her hands and knees picking it up with her fingers, or the paid staff with the equipment could clean it up. Yes, that's a mess, and no I wouldn't leave a table like that, but seriously, compared to some of the heartbreaking stories on here, an employee complaining when their job gets a bit challenging is just annoying. They need to get a grip or a different job (I have also worked in hospitality and cleaned up after people).

Obviously not a single one of you shamers has young children and knows how hard it can be to take them out to eat and keep the place spick and span. When we take our toddler out and he does this we always apologize profusely, we do our best to clean up his mess, and always leave a generous tip as apology. Shame on the rest of you for what you don't know.

I saw something similar to this just a month ago at the local Denny's. The father just let the kid dance around and actually eat his food without a fork including the brat putting his face into the place and picking up the food with his mouth and the little bastard would drop it on the table or floor and he was just looking at his phone most of the time. The little bastard would not sit down and wandered around. He was NOT some toddler, he was around 10 or 11. THEY were sitting less than ten feet from us. The waitress even tried to clean up while the little asshole was dropping food on the floor and all the father said was thanks and went back to his phone and I just wanted to scream. I was going to say something when we left but he left before us. The little bastard just left a mess. I asked the waitress if they left a big tip. She said they put $1 on the bill for a tip and then we saw the syrup all over the table as we walked by. My brother and I left he an extra ten on top of the twenty percent we always leave.

How could the tabletop be left in a better condition? It looks like the main problem with the table is that there is too much on it. Patrons can’t clear the tables themselves. (Unless this is, in fact, a restaurant where you bus your own table.)

Years ago I was a waiter, and a family of four(mom, dad, son, daughter) suddenly got up and left right after finishing their food. The daughter came up to me as the other three were leaving, said "We're sorry...", handing me a wad of cash, and quickly left with her family. The cash was almost twice the bill, which was great, but I was confused until I started clearing the table: The son had vomited ALL over... at least I got a good tip :D

To be honest my nephew probably would have made about the same amount of mess as a toddler. He was a very sweet and well behaved child but he's always been a really messy eater. What makes the parents in this situation bad is the fact that they made no attempt to tidy up the mess, My sister always requested a dustpan and brush to tidy up when we were done and my nephew knows to pick up dropped food and stack his plate now he's older.

I know it will never be a popular opinion, and could never actually be done...but for years I've felt that there should be a space for restaurants to apply a cleaning charge to your bill if the server sees this sort of thing. The time employees spend cleaning up after you is taking them away from duties helping others, and should be compensated. Mostly, I just believe it would impact anyone selfish enough to leave their table like this into also being the type to feel it's not worth losing a few bucks and take a couple seconds to be a human being

This phenomenon has been happening since restaurants were invented. Social media is making it more visible to those who would never allow this, and make the parents out to be the problem. Ever see the kitchen at home after young ones have dinner? Society expecting perfection is the problem. Perfection does not exist and those who make this a big deal need to walk a mile in their shoes.

A good follow-up question to ask yourself would be "do you take time to consider the emotions of people around you in everyday life?"

Showing interest in the well-being of others is vital to maintaining interpersonal relationships. And it usually doesn’t take much to demonstrate that you care. It's often enough just to offer emotional support or a listening ear.

But if you feel indifferent, or if you believe others deserve the distress they experience, you might benefit from talking to a therapist.

Really doubt if the fines will stand up in court. You're not allowed to hold a mobile device when you're driving, but in most countries it's perfectly legal to use it when you're stationary. Like when you're waiting for a traffic light or when you're trapped in a congestion.

During a flood, a jeep drove by to rescue people and stopped to pick up a man. The jeep offered to help him evacuate, but the man said, "No thanks, God will help me, I have faith." As the flood worsened, a boat came along and made the same offer, but this time also, the man refused. "God will take care of me." The flood worsened even more, and the man had to climb up to the roof of a building. A helicopter came by, and its pilots tried to convince the man to grab onto the rope ladder. The man went, "Yes, the flood is higher, but I know God will save me." In a shocking turn of events, the man drowned to death, and ended up at the gates of heaven. "You betrayed me, God. I had faith in You yet I died." God replied, "I sent you a jeep, a boat, and a helicopter. What else could I have done for you?"
