“WWIII May Be Closer Than We Realize”: 50 Dark World News People Should Know Uyghurs will soon be systematically erased as a culture, and they are really unlucky to have China as their culprit. Any other country doing something similar would be shamed to death right now, but everyone is afraid of China and losing their businesses there so they just chill and pretend "you're not educated on the situation". Their kids will be raised as "default" Chinese, their adults are in reeducation camps, their lands will be flooded with other Chinese and their history will be gone and erased. Seems exaggerated? Go check if Tibet is still really Tibet right now... They carefully engineer their country to maintain good order and hegemony...Black Mirror is nothing compared to reality.

Think we all need to see where our products, from clothes to technology is made. Lots of us buy Chinese products, governments do nothing partly because of supply chain fears. If WE stop purchasing these products it will be a start.

In Mexico and all over around Latín América cultures, languages and people have been constantly erased as the people of the "civilizated world" thinks this communities need to be "modernized". This communities DO NEED only let to be alone and respect of their ways of life, their cosmogony and their thoughs. The perfect example of this destruction is the people of the Amazonia región. F**k capitalism.

This all sounds very horrible- as it should. BUT - it may help to realize that these conflicts are THOUSANDS of years old; even 10's of thousands. Uyghurs have been steppe herders/nomads probably for 25 thousand years; and very good at it. Han Chinese have been farmers and city makers for 10,000- and the 2 have been raiding, murdering and whining about it all that time. One recent change, most Uyghurs are now Moslem- which is something the Chinese are very afraid of. In case you haven't noticed, Moslem cultures have been disrupting their neighborhoods, in the name of religion, quite badly in recent days. Does this excuse anything? NO. I just have this weird idea that it might help to actually know origins of conflicts. Nothing in the above post is "wrong". But the desperately tangled history is missing; it's just not simple.

The difference between the distant past and now is that in the past, there was no central government following a deliberate policy of annihilating an entire culture and ethnic identity. As for the idea that the Chinese government is afraid of Islamic cultures the idea's ridiculous. China is far too big for any outside influence to cause it internal problems. No, the issue is that the Chinese government wants all of China to be culturally homogenous. If you're anything but an atheist, you don't fit in.

I know the news is bad today, but this keeps happening because people don't pay attention to what happens in other countries. Things aren't great anywhere, but they think giving the right-wing conservatives a chance will somehow lead to change. Then they step in, f**k everything up, target everyone they hate, and make everyone feel like s**t and wreck lives. I'm so tired of the cycle of allowing obviously incompetent hatemongers a shot at running things. Progressive govts aren't always the best, but they're sure as s**t better than people who wanna lock up and deny rights to everyone they don't like

Well obviously you're not looking at this from the perspective of concerned CHRISTIAN parents who are hell bent on somehow, someway getting that whole abstinence thing to take off. When your whole philosophy is "just say no" because sex is an evil, sinful thing meant only for procreation, teaching kids the importance of being told "yes" kind of nullifies their goal. Yes, it's stupid, reckless and dangerous. But it makes perfect sense to mouth breathing idiots.

Behavioral scientist here - a truth that needs to be realized- "conservatives" are actually; truly, measurably, PROVABLY - STUPID. As in, low IQs. True fact. We need to quit giving them any respect at all. Proof #1: Basic conservative belief is that "things were better 10 years ago, and we need to go back." Yes? Ask one. Now, look around- not only is change cosmically inevitable - we can SEE that change is needed and can help. Going backwards- does NOT WORK in any galaxy. STUPID.

“WWIII May Be Closer Than We Realize”: 50 Dark World News People Should Know The wars in Ukraine and Palestine aren't the only wars happening. They're not even the deadliest conflicts. According to the Geneva Academy, there are currently 110 armed conflicts worldwide. Five of the current conflicts are classified as major wars (over 10,000 combat-related deaths), 17 are wars (9,999 - 1,000 deaths), and an additional 18 are minor wars (999 - 100 deaths). Even more surprising is that the most violent war isn't in Ukraine or Palestine...it's in Myanmar. People generally don't realize how much fighting is happening across the world.

Unfortunately rhe Ukraine/Russia War is the one receiving the most media attention and is therefore perceived to be the biggest war. It is watched closely due to the Eussians involvement which possess a nuclear threat. Myanmar has recorded an almost identical kill count, but the worst possible outcome is not as bad. There is also the unrest in Saudi to consider and the Gaza, as well as several unrests in Africa. There are currently about 40 wars being fought.

If reading through this left you with a sense of dread, it’s also important to note that, for better or worse, the current era isn’t necessarily worse and is, indeed, probably quite a bit better than the past. After all, reporters and news providers love to share the horrors of the world with us. So after reading all of the ideas here, it can be comforting to turn to a more sober analysis.

American historian Barbara W. Tuchman wrote that “Disaster is rarely as pervasive as it seems from recorded accounts. The fact of being on the record makes it appear continuous and ubiquitous whereas it is more likely to have been sporadic both in time and place. Besides, persistence of the normal is usually greater than the effect of the disturbance, as we know from our own times. After absorbing the news of today, one expects to face a world consisting entirely of strikes, crimes, power failures, broken water mains, stalled trains, school shutdowns, muggers, drug addicts, neo-Nazis, and rapists.”

It’s definitely awful but I’d like to draw your attention to the USA for a mo. I have family members moving to other countries to escape the criminalization of being lgbtq. In my home state of NC, should we be shocked? Brought to you by the state that tried to start a war with the Feds over bathrooms, I bring you illegal to cross dress in public places where minors might be. In other words, everywhere. And if your body isn’t naturally gender identifying, you prefer certain hair styles over others, you are at risk of Karen kicking down your bathroom stall door and demanding to see what you’re packing below the belt and your bc. Cuz we don’t want no trans woman in the (with stalls) bathroom with our daughters so we are going to send them to the (frequently without stalls or sometimes doors) men’s room to tinkle with our sons? Have mercy please. Unisex bathrooms, only way to go. This country may not impose life or death sentences but we are far from comp decriminalized.

The Ugandan government said "it's not our culture" BUT IT IS!!!! Homophobia was introduced by the ruling British colonialists, Uganda had an openly gay emperor pre-colonialism and queer people weren't outcasts of society. There is a rich history of gay, trans and nonbinary/genderfluid identities on the African continent. The hatred against them was imported by European powers.

That obviously isn't what I'm talking about here.  DaJelly:  this happened to me. over 15 years later and i’m still all f**ked up from it. my brain can’t even process or put into words the abuse and gaslighting and how awful it was. i’ve never been to prison but i work with a lot of those that have. these “troubled teen schools” are the perfect storm of prison meets mental institution without all the gross red tape of laws because they are minors and have no rights and the “school” has custody and can do mostly as they wish.the irony is i never did drugs or really anything “troubled” before, but when i turned 18 and was allowed to leave i spent the next decade heavily drinking and doing any drug i could to deal with the trauma. i also was bunked with kids who did do those things that taught me exactly how and why i should. id also already served the time so might as well right. i’m sober now but damn… this is one of the most vile and evil things you could ever do to another human let alone your own children. and you pay for the privilege.

Was sent to one of the Utah camps myself and, like the narrator, had never done drugs or anything particularly bad. I just ran away from home a lot because I couldn't stand living with my guardian. I was lucky enough to be 17 already and was released at 18 (they really thought I would choose to stay and finish their program too). I ended up on drugs as well and pretty much ruined my life and am currently still in treatment for it.

Yes. We seem doomed to just keep reliving the same atrocities without ever learning from them. Genocide, slavery, bigotry, even science (vaccines, for instance) and yet it's always 3 steps forward, 4 steps back.

During the entire 400 years of the trans-Atlantic slave trade, 12.5 million were taken out of Africa, of those 388,000 ended up in the American colonies. However, it's currently estimated that there are upwards of 45 million enslaved people right now. Today. In 2024. Yes, John Oliver and a few others highlight this reality from time to time...but we largely hear little about it...because most people are pre-occupied with the slavery that ended more then a century and a half ago. Which, wonderful priorities.

Globally, there are more slaves now than there ever have been with over 42m people enslaved. Strangely, many of them are in Africa. Although the UN is heavily involved in trying to eradicate it, it still goes on.

We do not teach, or study- slavery. Learn this: 100% of all civilizations- were built by slaves. Now that we can read clay tablets from Sumeria- and older- they all spend a lot of time setting up laws about how to control the slaves, and what the categories of slavery are- it's amazing. Then there's the advances of capitalism - yep, freed the serfs; but- they now live in what is literally "free range slavery." Ever escaping it? Nope. We don't LOOK at it with eyes open.

As she states later in the same passage, many of us read about these sorts of things every day, without encountering them. It’s generally best to keep a sense of rationality. After all, many people still fear air travel, yet, in the US, no one has died in a commercial aircraft accident since 2009. Given the number of flights taken every single day, this is a staggering achievement.

Microplastics are a result of early attempts to appease environmentalists by having plastic "biodegrade" into microplastics by having plasticizers that evaporate faster making the plastic brittle or stuff like oxo-degradable plastics, supposedly now there are options that are legitimately biodegradable but I'm not sure how much of plastic production has shifted to the newer materials. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biodegradable_plastic

“WWIII May Be Closer Than We Realize”: 50 Dark World News People Should Know My grandmother is in elder care. This elder care was funded by her selling her house. It's ridiculously expensive (and yet, the workers are underpaid) so it's often the only way to pay for the nursing home/hospice care. My generation is full of renters, many of whom had to forego having children because children are expensive. What's going to happen when we get too old and sick to work?

    Remarkable_Prior_224:

My great aunt had 1 million dollars in her savings for elder care the first day she entered. It barely covered 9ish years there(she needed care after her husband passed). Lucky she was able to afford it by, well, by dying and not having to pay. The cost was about 10k a month. Yeah elder care is absolutely f**ked.

You would think it would be obvious!! No elder care facilities- and NO medical facilities or processes- should EVER be "for profit." The Big Lie is that "private enterprise" is more "efficient" than "government run." No, the Truth is once "profits" are important, corner WILL BE CUT. 1,000% guaranteed- and provable. Are government run entities inefficient? They sure are- IF nobody is inspecting regularly, or enforcing standards- and guess what? The Senators- cut the funding for inspections, and education- because- then they can buy the cash cows... This is SO not a "conspiracy theory" - this is straight HISTORY - just not in your Florida government text books.

When I see people who are 80+ years old, all I can think is "God, I hope I don't live that long." Not because they're sickly, immobile, or have dementia. Because I know that the way the American economy is going is that I'll never be able to retire, but if I'm unlucky enough to be sickly I won't be able to work, so I'll most likely be barely surviving on cat food and living on the street as a geriatric person. It's more terrifying than death.

I went in at the age of 49. Massive health issues can even take down the young. Trouble is, most facilities have a minimum age of 55-65. So your choices are limited when you are young and no less expensive but May require (like for myself) moving cross country just to get into one that allows younger residents. I was the youngest by 20 years. The second youngest was younger than everyone but me by 12 years. So almost everyone in that facility was at least 32 years older than me.

If you or a loved one ever needs hospice, find a nonprofit one. They may have sliding scale billing but very often don't ever send anyone to a collection agency. Medicare, insurance, and grants cover the vast majority of hospice costs for the nonprofits.

One of the most oft, recently quoted stats passed around social media, is that 71% of emissions are generated by 100 corporations. That's the headline, that's all that gets read and repeated so it has become a fact. Had anyone read the study, they would have learned that they arrived at that number by attributing all downstream emissions, to the corporation. Well the top of that list of 100 companies was populated by Fossil fuel corps..... extraction and refinement does have emissions attached...but the vast majority of emissions are generated by the consumer (that's you!) burning them. That's the f****d up flaw in the mindset of the modern "activist" they can acknowledge the problem exists, but can't acknowledge how they play into perpetuating it. Until that happens, and lets be honest, it doesn't look like it will, nothing will change.

And guess what? Is there PALM OIL in your- anything? It's everywhere. Yep; child- women, family, an adult slaves. We don't want to know, though. Here's how it works; "Hey, we have really good paying jobs! Men hired!" Ah. the catch? To keep your job; you MUST produce X number of palm nut clusters, every day. Sounds not too bad? Except - NO single person can produce that much- and everybody here knows it. What happens is; the "employed" man- has to bring his wife, and children - to work, to harvest the 50 lb clusters - all day. In order "keep his job." The masters have "show plantations" that don't look so bad. Can YOU go and look around a plantation not on their visitable list? They will KILL you. Billions of dollars here- of course they kill.

I might get downvoted, but even when your heart is in the right place this is bigger than Nestlé and a boycott won't help. The problem is that these communities depend on the cocoa trade, they are poor and they see every kid they have as another source of income for the family and to survive. This won't be solved without the help of governments, investment in education, investment in the communities, better services... not to mention the hold that criminal organisations have on the production of cocoa. In the case that companies like Nestlé abandon these sources, these communities will need to turn to other activities, perhaps drugs or something else. Is a cycle that is extremely hard to break and it might take decades to do it. This is our reality in third world countries.

Pretty much nailed it. It's OK us sat here shouting "F**K NESTLE" or "COLA" or whoever, but these companies, sadly, employ these people in these countries. I say 'employ' when a better word would be 'exploit'. But, and here's the kicker... If these companies decided tomorrow to have a change of heart and say "You know what, let's start paying them a DECENT wage and give them a BETTER living standard" we, that is to say THE END USER would be up in arms... And you know why? BECAUSE WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY THEM EXTRA TO PAY FOR IT... Morals and principles and wonderful things, but only rich people have the money to afford them, and even then, they don't tend to pay for them...

A huge part of the problem is allowing the industry to "combat" the problem by creating their own "fair trade" organizations. Evil companies like Nestle refuse to give up slave labor. But the rest of the major corporations do try to be fair trade, and sell to developed countries. This leaves other companies (often subsidiaries of the major corporations) free to engage in the slave trade and sell slave chocolate to countries that don't care: see Turkey candy manufacturers. In the end most chocolate is the product of evil and most companies are involved in the scam, but some are worse than others

Most likely they will have taken to the fields/plantages to be with their family and grew up between the cocoa. And from as early on as two years, they would have helped harvest - however little they were and do as much as they could. Even as that means, just being around so father/ mother can work and does not have to be away from the field to watch the kid.

Congo has been hell on earth for a lot longer! Thanks to Leopold II of Belgium, that poor country has been horribly exploited for more than a century. The horrors of it are incredible.

Let's be honest, the Congo has been in a terrible state at least since Belgium colonized it. They created a genocide that dwarfed the Holocaust. A region doesn't just recover from that - the trauma reverberates and repeats.

Congo has been hell on earth for many hundreds of years; for all of European history and presence- known fact. And almost certainly- for some thousands of years before that. It's rich beautiful country- of course the humans who don't live there- will kill for it.

Europeans didn't start to mess up Congo until the 1870s. Weirdly, it was only because of European exploration in the late 1870s that African slave traders discovered that it was possible to raid the Congo, so the first devastation suffered by the Congo was caused by slavers from Zanzibar.

And that right there is everything that's wrong. All our (collective society 'our') decisions are based on greed & power. The consequences, both immediate & long term don't even factor in. Giant corporations & the ubër wealthy are literally running the world and therefore get away with the most hideous of crimes.

The problem is assumption versus evidence. Being on a plane or on the island is not a crime. There has to be evidence of participation in sexual exploitation etc. Stephen Hawking for example was there, did he participate? Did he force a sexual act on someone?

You think that's bad? When a major international report on how the rich are engaging in money laundering and tax evasion on an insane scale, the only person who faced any repercussions was the journalist. She was killed by a car bomb placed by an assassin, one most likely hired by a person named in the report.

Slight nitpicking - but the "list" that was published was only people whose names have been mentioned in the interrogations. It doesn't mean they were even suspects. The list includes victims or people who were just named for some reason. It is not Maxwell's "black book". That may or may not see the light of day sometime - after she loses all her appeals and might try to cut some deal.

I said from the beginning and I'll keep saying it. If he was as smart as me (which admittedly isn't anything spectacular), he would have invited LOADS of people for completely innocent parties/reasons. That way there are plenty of completely legitimate and verifiable accounts of people who really went and had nothing to do with/no knowledge of the illicit activities. And there will be no record of who was actually "in the know" because that can be used as evidence. It's all smoke and mirrors, and we will most likely NEVER know the full truth.

And every day in my neighborhood, another business or neighbor mounts bright white LED lights on their building. And the city of Portland installed white LED street lights about six years ago with no hood on the light, so they project at 180° angle. In just the eight years I’ve been walking my dog at night it’s gone from the pleasant yellow glow of porch lights to feeling like I’ve got Coast Guard search lights shining in my face.

And the most common forms of dementia are almost never talked about. Alzheimer's, which is nowhere near as common as it is mentioned in media, is the only type most people can name. Hypertensive dementia, caused by high blood pressure, chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), and alcoholic dementia are all more common, and the majority of people don't even know they exist.

We really need to make euthanasia for dementia legal when specificed in and advanced directive. And- most older folks, living past their warranty expiration- on supplements and statins - are perfectly functional mentally, and would be physically- if we didn't sit them in chairs in "retirement". We are totally unprepared for keeping our seniors productive- we're wasting vast resources. Old folks know this- but younger folks ignore them- and this is a new problem for our species; no good old wisdoms to help us out. We should use our brains yeah? Nah. Super Mario World!

I tried my exit plan a couple of years back because even my body was and is not lasting. But family called the cops and instead I spent two weeks in a hospital where I was assaulted by a charge nurse and security guard. Repeatedly. The "domestic worker" trade where they bring mostly women from African countries like Ghana, Kenya, etc. and send them to countries in the Middle East to work. Unfortunately they are treated like slaves, not people. No phones, no going out, no set work hours, domestic violence, rape, and humiliation. Oh, and their salaries are about $200 - $300 a month. I am Lebanese. I have seen atrocities committed against these women. They are already deemed "suspicious" before they even step foot in the country because "they learn everything before they come" and their employers think their sole purpose is to come and scam them. They rely on them for childcare, cleaning, taking care of the elderly, etc. They used to do it to Indians and Sri Lankan women so they stopped coming to Lebanon. Then they moved to Philippino women who also stopped coming. Now it's women from African countries. There's an even worse one than domestic workers. It's actual sex workers from Eastern Europe. They are brought to Lebanon to work as sex workers and stay holed up in a hotel. They "perform" in a night club and men come, buy a bottle, and get to sit with her until closing time. The next day, he goes to the hotel where she lives and he takes her out to sleep with and brings her back. She is not allowed to go out, not allowed to do anything really except serve customers and stay in the hotel. Many of these women think they are coming to Lebanon to be artists and dancers. Nope. They're sex workers and many of them are humiliated and treated terribly. Oh, and both groups get their passports confiscated so that they don't run away. Now, there are of course exceptions. Some of these women are happy, some are treated well, some have many privileges. But the vast majority are not treated that way. Then you have the Syrian and Iraqi sex workers. Those are heartbreaking. Since they are not white or blonde and extremely poor they are dealing with the poorest men in society. And the ones who treat them like animals. Girls as young as 9 are trafficked. And nobody bats an eye.

Nobody needs to wear a uniform to trick them. Even if they go to the police the law protects the abusers, and they will be forced to return to the house where she is abused until she completes her two-year contract.

Friend told me a story: " There was a guy in my town known to be pimping girls. They were "streetwalkers", visible to everybody with eyes while prostitution was illegal. A young girl -like many- went to work abroad and disappeared from the radar for years. One day she returned to her parents and told them she was trafficked to another country by said pimp. They immediately went to the police to report it. They just got home from the police station when a policeman called them. He told them he just heard a college calling the pimp and telling him what happened. He's probably on his way to their place right now. They should leave town immediately, go to the capital, find a certain policeman and tell him everything. The day after the "national" police showed up, arrested the pimp and a bunch of local policemen. It didn't make the headlines though, it was too embarrassing for he police and the local politicians. Well, at least the pimp and his girls were gone."

“WWIII May Be Closer Than We Realize”: 50 Dark World News People Should Know HIGH levels of international student immigration in Canada. Forcing people to live 4-5-6+ people in a single room. Because colleges/universities rely on that income (some get 90% of their inflated tuition from international students.). Companies like Walmart (just one example) are also pushing for it because they pay international students minimum wage at best - which keeps wages across the board suppressed and their profits at an all time high. It’s literally importing slave labour under the guise as education/immigration. Legal slave labour. 500k people a year brought in - during a housing crisis. And food bank use is skyrocketing. It’s unsustainable and unethical. All for universities and massive companies to profit from.

This is not accurate. The housing crisis is caused by zoning issues, foreign property buyers, REIT consortiums, reverse mortgages, every boomer/gen-x-er buying a 2nd house to use as an income property and constantly jacking up rents with renovictions, and the fact that Provincial and Federal Parliament houses are stuffed full of people who own multiple properties. All of them actively worked together to raise property values for decades and destabilized rent costs. Canada maintains an international student population of around 1 million. Some of them settle here, some of them go back home, but they come here and spend money. But the number is stable. Conservative govts are blaming the students because they love blaming foreigners. In Montreal, there are tax penalties on developers who refuse to make 20% of their new construction affordable housing. The developers just pay the fines rather than introduce affordable housing. Like, they publicly refuse to make AFFORDABLE HOUSING

I think the housing crisis is far worse in college/university areas. Lots of people are commuting for hours to get to school because there isn't any housing available near the school. I know someone who drives 2.5 hours (one way) during the winter, and attempts to live in their car during the warmer months. And there are definitely students attempting to stay overnight in the libraries, and other buildings, to stay warm in winter.

As a Canadian student at one of the colleges that brought in the most internet students, it's lowered our quality of education. We bring students who do not speak fluent enough English to succeed at a post secondary level, but if they fail too many courses, they will lose their visas and the schools will lose that money. So as a work around, they lower the standards of the assignments and partner poor English speaking students with a group of domestic students, so that they can scrape by with a 55-60. Imagine being taken care of by a PSW who was pity passed, or having your child taken care of by an ECE who can't communicate with them because they don't speak English well enough?

The public vastly ignores the likelihood of the full on collapse of food chains due to climate change. If you thought prices were bad now, wait until 85% of the population is fighting over rice and grain in 2030. Fun fact: Globally, there is approximately two months of food storage. If crops are decimated for even one season, it would be absolutely catastrophic.

It is the mono-culture that will get us in the end. Our crops are just a little bit ahead of the disaster. Bananas are the perfect example - in the '50s a disease wiped out the then current banana which was replaced by the current banana which is being wiped out by a fungus. 'They' have not found a suitable replacement yet that is seedless, tastes good and can travel.

And scandal about tonnes of potatos, carrots and smth. else, I don't remember what exactly, were found buried in vicinity of one km. before the city. Perfectly good vegetables were buried.

Yep. I have no idea why countries like the UK still bring in people. When countries stop exporting food because they vote to keep it for their own people, overcrowded countries that can't grow enough will be f****d.

The UK is bringing in people because the UK economy would collapse without them. We've got a far lower population density than loads of countries (e.g., Bangladesh, the Netherlands, South Korea). The idea that we're overcrowded is just racist scaremongering. It just so happens that the UK could grow all its own food - if we were collectively willing to go vegetarian and use the most efficient agriculture possible. Also, if the global food supply were squeezed, it's the rich countries with powerful armed forces which would stay fed. There would be wars. The poor and the weak nations would suffer. Us in the UK - well, we'll be okay. Worry about the Bangladeshis, not us.

The Paria Diving Incident— TLDR: 5 workers were vacuum sucked into an oil pipe that spanned 125ft. One made it out to save the others and the company refused to help them. 4 days later they were flushed out dead. Some divers report hearing knocking from the pipe 3 days after the first survivor told the company. No justice has been served My input: corporate higher ups got so disconnected that they didn’t value the lives of these 5 men.

I've heard this story. Absolutely tragic and horrifying what these men went through, with only 1 surviving. The other 4 were left down there to die of starvation, dehydration, or possibly death by injuries sustained when they were sucked in. I can't even bear to imagine what was going through their heads in their final days. Rest in peace, Fyzal Kurban, Kazim Ali Jr, Rishi Nagassar and Yusuf Henry. And to the sole survivor, Christopher Boodram, you are a brave man. You tried to save your fellow divers, you did what you could. It's absolutely horrible what happened to these 4 men, and how the company made no effort to retrieve them while they were still alive.

It often leads to a neuroimmune disease (mecfs) that absolutely wrecks your life, you go from being healthy and strong one day to bedridden for years in some cases. My mom's first symptom of COVID was chest pain, and she caught it just as the first mask mandates were announced. She was sick for two months, and eventually had to have heart surgery because it damaged her heart. She recovered her sense of taste and smell after about a year and a half. But four years later, she still struggles with brain fog, fatigue, and having weak mucus membranes (I don't know how else to put it - her sinuses and gastrointestinal tract spontaneously get inflamed and react to seemingly random things. It's really painful and frustrating for her). COVID also took away her ability to process text - she can no longer read upside down, in foreign languages, or quickly enough to read subtitles. She texted me a pic of a car the other day because the font made her unable to read what type of car it was, and she was so frustrated with herself she was crying on the phone when I called her back to read it for her. COVID can really f**k you up.

While my long Covid isn't as bad as some folks, it's caused me to have to scale back some of the activities I like to do, such as walking. And people who have no respect for people's lives took joy in providing false information, and many continue to this day, that promotes unsafe and dangerous behavior. Masks save lives, the vaccine is safe and effective, social distancing is wise, and staying out of crowded places go a long way. Schools sadly dropped mask mandates due to undue pressure from idiots and fools and now there are so many cases of children sick - and what does the future look like for them? Who knows, because we do not yet know that the long term effects will have on their bodies. Thanks Republicans and others that bought into those lies.

I had to stop working thanks to fatigue and brain fog. For now I'm mostly at home and in my bed just trying to get through the day. Luckily we have a working social system in Germany, so I don't have to fear ending up homeless or so for not being able to provide any income. I also get supportive care by the city I live in. That's helping a lot. I'm lucky that I got sick under this circumstances and that I don't have much of pain and other nerve-wrecking symptoms, but I can't understand how people are so chilled now with getting Covid. It can end your live as you know it from one day to the other. I got it in January 2020 and four years later I can only dream of the stuff I did before. That's also why people wanting to cut social systems are delusional. Not everyone is too lazy to work, a lot of us simply can't work. even if we would show up to work, we wouldn't be much of a help. And Long/Post Covid is proof it can happen to absolutly everyone at any time! Sorry for the rant.

"But it's just a cold!" "It's not even real, it's a Democratic hoax!" (/S) I've had long covid for 3 years running. Fortunately it's not as bad as others - I have parosmia which makes a lot of things smell like garbage or burning chemicals, especially foods. I was an essential worker so not allowed to quarantine and was around people who thought it was a hoax and didn't believe in wearing a mask or social distancing. Some came in sick with what they thought was a sinus infection. It wasn't a sinus infection. Now my doctor tells me that I'm allergic to the latest vaccine and she thinks I might go into anaphylactic shock if I get another. What really worries me though is the unseen lung damage Covid does. I have a bad feeling that in 20-30 yeas we're going to see a sudden, exponential increase in lung cancer and COPD. Viruses that don't cause symptoms in the majority have a nasty habit of causing cancer later.

The earlier one, when the invading Muslims were slaughtering the indigenous Buddhists - happened 80 years ago, so who remembers? It's in historical records- it was as hideous as any holocaust ever. We don't remember- but Burmese do.

So, A LOT of people don't pay much attention to their local, or even state elections. That is sad, but I don't know if I would call it dark... What is dark are the implications. Ohio congressional maps are drawn every 10 years. That would make the old maps drawn in 2012 up for redrawing in 2022. In 2019 those maps were ruled ILLEGAL by a federal judge, because they were obviously gerrymandered in favor of republicans. So what did the Ohio, GOP run government, who came into power because of those illegal congressional maps do? What they did was say "f**k it, stall until after the next state elections," Which they f*****g did, with zero consequences. And then what did they do? They tried to change the voter veto % from 50% to 60% to keep the power they already had, and remember, this from a state that *has already been illegally cutting the state into pieces that serve them FOR A DECADE* THAT is dark s**t.

Utah did all that years ago. Utah is totally dominated by the republicans, because a Mormon leader said that you can't be a good Mormon and vote for a Democrat. Cynical and greedy republicans capitalize on that to have a stranglehold on the state legislature and local government offices. They've gerrymandered the state into fragments, and have been making it harder and harder for a citizen's initiative to pass. Even when they do pass, the corrupt Utah Mormon republican legislature just ignores it and does what they want. All because voting for anyone but a republican makes Baby Jesus cry.

Also, it becomes more important to young people when they know it is something the have to do in the not too distant future and schools educate them on it.

8 billion people requires a very complicated system to run relatively smoothly. Nobody is saying that humans will go extinct. But extreme catastrophe can and very likely will happen. Billions of people suffering, and it's impossible for all to survive if the even a small percentage of global systems of production and distribution are destroyed. Ecosystems are very fragile. Farmers plan ahead and if they plan wrong due to rapidly changing conditions, then we lose whole crops, and people start fighting for food. People already have and will fight more and more for drinking water. Yes, SOME humans will survive, and it will come mostly down to luck. Billions will suffer and die.

“WWIII May Be Closer Than We Realize”: 50 Dark World News People Should Know You'd be gobsmacked how many people don't believe in child trafficking. Most people still think it's a myth. If you ask people you know about what they think about child trafficking, I'm sure at least one will either know nothing about it or think it's a myth.

No, it's a very real industry (though I don't believe it's secretly being run by any one political party, evil generally doesn't care about party lines) and even worse than that is the fact that there are enough sick & depraved people in the world to keep this industry alive.

It’s definitely a thing but the solution isn’t a bunch of people pulling a “Sound of Freedom.” There are people working to save these people (children and adults) but the work is much harder and less glamorous than that story lets on.

Given the number of of prominent Republicans being brought to court for what they did as youth pastors or high-school coaches, the saying about 'Every GOP accusation is either projection or a confession' does make one wonder about the GOP's fixation on child trafficking.

Downvoted. I think everyone knows child trafficking exists, just like slavery still (unfortunately) exists. I suspect the thought behind this post is child trafficking exists where QAnon says it exists, though they held the presidency for four years & there's still zero evidence.

Cartels have taken over Ecuador and are currently in a war with the Ecuadorian government. They've taken over news stations and prisons, holding prison guards hostage and executing them daily until their requests are met. Government isn't budging so tons of prison guards have been executed on video for the world to see. You won't hear a single thing about this on US news though. They're too focused on the health of the Royal Family and other b******t. US news is a f*****g joke.

Maybe that’s because the us is directly responsible for this. For decades they have been considering South America as their exclusive influence zone and have never hesitated to influence (=decide) who should govern the countries and how. Consequence: week governments and poor unstable economies where cartels can thrive.

Most of the arms being supplied to the cartels come from the US. Ecuador's president Daniel Noboa, born in Miami, is an oligarch & an extreme right wing politician. Being supported by the US.

In the US, at least, EMS is on the verge of collapse. I work in a major city and it’s not uncommon for certain jobs to be holding for 3+ hours. A whole lot of people left during Covid, and EMS was circling the drain in 2018. The low pay, s****y management, wide lack of unions, lack of career mobility, and constant crush of going on to the next call with no time to eat or p**s are starting to come home to roost. Police and fire fighters are deemed as “necessary” for the government to provide in most places in the US. EMS isn’t, which means there are a lot of shady private companies that step in to fill the void. Medicare fraud abounds. The average length of career in EMS is 3 years. The average length of career in ems where someone would be deemed a competent provider is 3-5 years. You do the math. If you live in the United States, know that every statistic your county/city provides is a horribly cooked number, and if you go into cardiac arrest outside a hospital, there’s a 90+ percent chance you’ll stay that way. 99%+ chance you’ll not stay that way without major life altering changes e.g. brain damage. This is all because people in power refuse to fund it. That’s it. The sole reason that you will have decades less with your family members or that you’ll not live for extra years is that people Balk at paying an unnoticeable extra amount of taxes (while ultimately saving money by not paying for private health insurance).

You're kidding me, aren't you? 3+ hours? Here in Germany it is mandatory by law that an ambulance has to arrive within 8 minutes after you called. I have to admit that it doesn't work all the time, it can take some additional time till they arrive, especially in rural areas when there simultaneous calls but nothing near several hours.

Melbourne ambulances used to have the best response time in the world (8 mins) but now we are at a similar point to the US. I had an asthma attack a few years ago and although the ambos arrived fairly quickly, when we got to the hospital I had to stay in the ramp area for almost two hours. This tied up the ambos as they had to wait with me.

Nursing is not far behind. We lost a lot during COVID. The Boomers will retire eventually and that will take more from the workplace. Not enough being trained at all to replace what is needed, so be ready for higher nurse: patient ratios in hospitals (which have been shown to lead to higher morbidity rates - too busy to keep the doctors from killing you. (I'm kidding!)(maybe). Be ready to wait longer for an answer to that call bell though. Especially if more nurses quit from the stress ... it's not good right now.

WWIII may be closer than we realise, or it is already underway. NATO's top military advisor has just warned people to prepare and have the basic necessities in case of an attack. This was in response to people panic buying radios in Sweden, one of the world's most advanced and safest countries. The German government said that war was possible in the near future. Baltic countries,NATO members, have been openly threatened. This is not normal, yet people don't know about it and / or act as if it's hyperbole. Let's hope cool minds prevail as Einstein once said that WWIII would be fought with nukes and WWIV would be fought with sticks and stones.

My town was supposed to reactivate all the bomb shelters...most are storage areas or locked. Now it is in the news all of Sweden should be prepared. We are being told it is because of the choices we made , helping Ukraine, applying to NATO, and allowing US military to have bases in Sweden. Putin were warned us we ignored him so did Germany so now we must pay. I did ask how can he fight 3 countries at one time, his military is bigger than the population of Sweden. The education system in America is collapsing and it's going to affect our place as a technology leader, which is going to affect our place as a world leader. I don't think we realize how much of our standing in the world is due to our investment in science. I'm talking, incoming college students scoring zeros on math placement exams (top 10 public university). Meanwhile, China is spending a sh**ton on education and science & technology.

There is. No. Education. System. In the US. That isn’t how it works. We have no nationalized education system. What we do have is thousands of independent systems, some of them good, some of them not so good. And it has always been that way. The issue, though, isn’t the schools, it’s culture (and poverty). There are plenty of people who value education but there are also a lot that don’t. Isaac Asimov’s observation that America has an anti-intellectual streak is absolutely true.

Have you not noticed the large numbers of medical doctors, scientists, government officials, CEO's, etc with foreign names in the US? Our tax policies since the 80's have turned the US into a 3rd world labor pool. As a result, it created the need to import for upper level positions. Result? Huge income inequality followed by huge influx for the brain bank. I am not a "nationalist", and am all about diversity. But if you damn your citizens to low-pay labor jobs, you have to fill those upper level positions somehow.

Er, have you not noticed that almost all notable people in the US have foreign names? Starting with English names like George Washington and Ben Franklin. The US is a nation of immigrants. Also, almost everyone in top level positions in the US is from a wealthy long-established US family. They're the ones who ensure that their children get nothing but the best education and health care - and have the right connections. There are ten Bill Gates's for every Elon Musk.

Over the last 20 years it has began to show its de-escalation of its military intervention and economic outreach. NAFTA is the new thing and China is dead as an economic, demographic and military superpower. All roads lead to ROME and we are going from empire to shared empire stage. This doesn't compare to a lot of things I've read here, but the attitude towards mental health in aviation. A pilot takes some time for their mental health and there is a decent chance they won't fly again. It's encouraging some very unhealthy ways of dealing with issues.

Pilot here. Long story short, the FAA will pull our medical certificates (required to fly) for seeking any mental health help. They lie about this to the public, but if we so much as admit feeling anxious or depressed, everything we have worked for can be gone in an instant. It can cost thousands of dollars and several years to get the medical cert back, if it ever happens. This leads to pilots using things like alcohol (or like the recent publicized case, mushrooms) to cope with issues that should be easily and safely treatable. The chances that you’ve been on an aircraft with a hungover, depressed pilot are actually pretty high. This not only goes for mental health, by the way.

The general attitude toward mental health at all hasn’t made long enough strides yet. last year I went into the hospital for surgery. I begged and begged for my mental health meds and was denied and then a nurse came running into my room accusing me of yelling obscenities in the hallway. All the while you could hear the obscenities being yelled from the room next door while I’m trying to say it wasn’t me. She then called every single security guard on duty and all people working that floor to come into my room to control me. With five security guards and six nurses in my room they triggered my ptsd (I’d been assaulted in a hospital a year before under similar circumstances) I was sent to the psych ward where I was once again abused. Had to get my parents involved in helping me. Mental health issues is still very much cuckoos nest.

Recent studies have been done on this very issue-medical and mental health standards in aviation are archaic and promote lying about one's mental or physical health if one wants to continue to fly legally.

Civil Asset Forfeiture. Really just legalized theft, this practice is legal in most states and allows law enforcement to confiscate property from people who have never been charged let alone convicted of any crime. It’s the single biggest legal outrage in 2024 America imo.

Wage Theft is the biggest financial crime in the western world, exponentially outpacing all other forms of financial crime (including burglary, robbery etc), yet no one goes to gaol for it. Woolworths in Australia stole over $700,000,000 from its employees and their only penalty was having to pay it back.

We have asset forfeiture in our country but it's specifically for cases where a person can't pay for something they bought eg a car or house. However imho they should be refunded the instalments if that happens. What generally happens though is their stuff is auctioned off and the difference between what they owed and the auction price achieved is still payable to the banks. Yay capitalism (SA by the way, not usa).

That's not what they're talking about with this one. They're referring to police stops where the cop inspects a vehicle and seizes property or cash, ostensibly because they believe it's a proceed of crime but in some cases basically just because they can. There was a story I read not long ago where the guy had sold up and was moving interstate to start a new life. Cops seized a large amount of money because he had it in his vehicle and they believed it was for drugs or some sort of crime. Despite the fact there was no crime actually involved and the guy was never charged let alone sent to court.

In 2020, Azerbaijan kicked Armenian troops out of Azerbaijan's UN recognized territory after thirty years of occupation. In 2023, Azerbaijan started an operation against heavily armed Armenian separatists. It took exactly 24 hours until militants surrendered. So-called Artsakh state agreed to dissolve. In their own words, 10 Armenians died, 40 wounded. All Armenians in the region flee themselves.

I work in a court house. In  my city they were still evicting a s**t ton of people during the pandemic. HUD had already  issued their eviction moratorium. I was so concerned what was happening. Then the governor issued the  project room key for homeless to get  a hotel. And i would refer people to their office. They would call me back saying "They(the employees) have no idea what that is". I sent an email to HUD about these issues. Nothing happened. I things are still like this. I'd tell people and they look at me like I'm some crazy left leaning liberal.  I'm not but this is so wrong. Then I saw a guy on Joe organs podcast  talking about a city employee whose job it is to end homelessness. And her salary was 200k. Yea... Alas  the project room key received a 150million budget. 59 million was spent.

Due to low childbirth, in most of the developed world, number of pensioners goes up while number of economically active young people goes down. Which means that social systems in many countries (Germany, Japan, much of western Europe in general) will collapse like house of cards in this century. So if I make it to old age, I will most likely die of starvation and exposure in cardboard box under some bridge together with millions of others, since there will be no money for even basic pensions.

In India Between 2018 and 2021, 222 elephants were killed by electrocution across the country, 45 by trains, 29 by poachers and 11 by poisoning.  Among human casualties elephants killed 585 in 2019-20, 461 in 2020-21, and 533 in 2021-22. India is home to the world's largest population of Asian elephants, a species listed as endangered, with declining populations across its home range of 13 countries. India has over 100 national parks and around 30 elephant reserves, but many of India's 30,000(according to 2017 census by Project Elephant) elephants live outside these protected areas and have less and less habitat to roam in search of food.

Whaling was outright banned the world over in 1986. Iceland and Japan continue under the guise of scientific research and as horrible as it is, realistically what's the difference between whaling and anything else humanity does to animals? Spain granted personhood to all great apes in 2007, yet chimps continue to be used for "research" purposes the world over. China and south korea both have dog meat festivals in which dogs are hung upside down, boiled and skinned alive. There are numerous video's online showcasing that, i don't recommend watching. I saw one 15 years ago and it continues to haunt me each and everyday. As long as their is any nuance to the treatment of animals i.e "these are food so..f**k them"...those situations will be exploited to justify every other terrible act.

I'm thinking this is out of date information; the Japanese quit doing "research" like 2 years ago, and just said "the hell with it; we do commercial whaling". Like Iceland. They take a number of species, including fin whales, which are 2nd to blue whales in size; but not blue whales. Last I knew; and I do track this. Their whaling industry is not prospering- most Japanese have forgotten whale meat, all but some elderly. Sales are slow.

Japan doesn't hunt the "biggest whales" as you said. It does, however, hunt smaller whales under the label of research. Funny thing is that the meat still ends up in the grocery stores... I know Japanese who eat whale meat because it is nostalgic to them (their families always ate it in the past). That said, westerners may not eat whale but they overeat other mammals like pigs and cows. There is no excuse for waste and no excuse for overconsumption no matter where it takes place.

When you hear some of the stories it's not surprising people are willing to sacrifice anything to get as far away as possible. In many many ways, The refugee crisis of Europe and other places is just a symptom of our apathy to the struggles of other nations. Once upon a time, people better understood that's generally a good idea for your neighbor to be stable least their problems spill over into your country, We now live in a global village and the problems in countries you've never heard of can have momentous effects in your country, No matter how far removed you feel from it.

My mom is a prime example. My father was a psycho and one day she told us to grab what we can and we ran for our lives. She knows exactly what it means to run desperately and seek refuge, but she fully supports politicians who say we shouldn't help them, and so does everyone at her church

Whats the solution then? As easy as it is to scream "help them" realistically, you can't just allow an influx of millions upon millions of people into already strained societies and economies and expect that everything is just going to work out. Go to war with every country committing atrocities? We've tried that, and at best the end result is nothing changes except an ever growing debt and body count. Yes, we live in a "global village" and the reality of that is that by helping one group of people, you're pissing off three more....and those places have a more direct, or more potential for dire impact on the lives of many more people. It's like playing 4d chess, blind folded, strapped to a rocket with a gun to your head with the knowledge that you're not going to "win" no matter what you do. The best you can hope for is to make losing as painless as possible.

It may be of interest to know that the instability of these countries is due to warlords fighting over wealth that is supplying first-world industries. Instead of using normal labour conditions (ie exploitative capitalism), they use genocide and slavery. It's a side-effect of capitalism and its demand for resources, in many cases. I'm thinking speciically of Congo for example. If we look at sudan with the north/south split, the split is roughly along religious and ethnic lines. However, the dispute, of course, is over oil resources, and who is going to get to sell them to the west. Same with boko haram in nigeria. Islamists in the north want to gain control of the south where the oil is.

Haiti. Just all of it. There's a whole history of how France (with help from the US) single handedly bankrupted them over 100 years all because of a slave rebellion they were angry about. Deforestation means they have less trees that help protect from things like hurricanes, which means crops get destroyed. It's completely lawless and basically uninhabitable because of multiple issues that ultimately stem from being stepped on by wealthier nations over the last two centuries. It's really easy to just write them off but the conditions over there are absolutely horrific. The people there are starving to death, people literally get shot by snipers when they walk out of their homes. Public services have failed, and so there's hardly any power or infrastructure and nowhere for waste to go. I didn't even know about this until recently. It made me cry. Nobody even seems to know or care about it.

Would you believe that Haiti is still paying recompense to France for its freeing of French slaves back in in the year 1804? These debts are denounced as the root of contemporary Haiti's poverty and a case of odious debt, debt forced upon a population with abusive force. And on top of that the country was devastated by the 2010 earthquake. At least 100,000 people died, and possibly as many as 316,000. The country hasn't recovered from the devastation.

“WWIII May Be Closer Than We Realize”: 50 Dark World News People Should Know Food product cartels. Many countries have had cartel like take overs for food products, I know Netflix did a documentary series of each episode showcasing a different food product, but that was just a small number of serious cartel like take overs of small farms and larger cooperations. The problems include farmers lives being at risk, and even consumers. Sometimes unknowingly purchasing counterfeit products at horridly high prices.

Corporate producers do not contribute to an increase in production; they contribute to an increase in price, loss of private farms, decrease in food quality, and contamination with chemicals/toxins/microbes that reduce health of humans and their pets as well. They also contribute to unequal food distribution throughout the world.

Yes, white farmers have been murdered, horrifically in some cases. This does not qualify as genocide, as there is no systematic pattern to those deaths. Read this for a deeper and more balanced look at this claim: https://harpers.org/archive/2019/03/the-myth-of-white-genocide-in-south-africa/

Why the fuckity f**k is this here? Let me tell you, there is NOT a "white genocide". There is no systematic murder of white people in Southern Africa. Southern Africa has one of the highest murder rates in the world, so yeah, some white people are going to be murdered, but so are black and brown and Asian. What you should be talking about is the extremely high rates of Femicide in Southern Africa. Now THAT'S a problem...

Murder rate in SA is 45/100k, or 0,045%. Between 58 and 74 murders on farms (not just farmers) annually in the period 2015–2017. If we assume an average of 66 murders in the 2-year period, that's 33/annum. Out of a population of near 60m, that's 0,000055%. So it is SAFER to be a farmer in SA than another citizen, even if we assume all those murders were farmers rather than farmhands.

Also: In SA, farmers are typically afrikaners. During Apartheid the Afrikaners controled the country and spread rumours of a "swart gevaar" (black danger) to emphasise how dangerous blacks are. So this legend of the white genocide on farms really has to do with the swart gevaar myth, since most of the victims are white and most of the perps are black. However, if you understand that most farmers are racist Afrikaners, you won't be surprised that their staff (mostly black) retaliate against their exploitation and racism. I'm not saying it's DESERVED at all, no one deserves to die in the brutal ways these farmers are killed. What I'm saying is there's a level of anger in this country because white farmers own 70% of the land while being +- less than 1% of the population (absolute white percent is 8% out of 60m). No blame, just explanation.

For those who aren't South African here, this person (and Neytjie below) , are Afrikaners, meainng they have family members who are farmers, because in SA, farmers are typically afrikaners. Again, social media drama. Bodies were not "found" behind a police station, it's an official burial ground for unclaimed bodies, not a secret. The actual issue which led it to being in the news is the large number of burials in recent years where it appears authorities did not do sufficient work to confirm the identity of someone who died, or contact relatives.

Using hospitals as weapon depot, hostage jail or in any other way as military facility makes them valid targets and should put blame on the Hamas for doing so. The IDF also doesn't bomb them, they get secured by ground forces.

The comments here give me hope for humanity. The hospitals are evacuated and secured by ground troops (more dangerous and more troop fatalities), then they are searched, and weapons (and remains of hostages being held there) are found. Then they are (if necessary) destroyed, or at least the tunnel systems under them are secured/blocked/destroyed. And of course accidents and mistakes and collateral damage happens, but that is the exception and not the motivation. Unlike hundreds of thousands of civilians purposely killed in Syria, Yemen, Ethiopia, Burma, etc, etc, etc, etc. Where you hear nothing.

Hamas can end this by unconditionally surrendering NOW. But they won’t and will continue to commit war crimes by using their own people as human shields and this after they murdered a thousand Israelis. They lead their people here and don’t you dare say, “Israel left them no choice.” The Palestinians rejected every single offer of a two-state solution for decades because, “death to Israel.” The Arab hatred for Israel is what lead to this war.

While it's freely available to look into, most of the general public doesn't know about the sentient brain organoids that have proto-eyes that we've created and hooked up to computers to interact with AI directly.

    >Feng Guo and his team at Indiana University Bloomington generated a brain organoid from [human] stem cells, attached it to a computer chip, and connected their setup, known as Brainoware, to an AI tool. They found that this hybrid system could process, learn, and remember information. It was even able to carry out some rudimentary speech recognition. It's only going to get more powerful, more accurate, faster, etc. from here.

Back in 2008, I took a cognitive science class in college where we debated whether or not AI could ever get on par with human intelligence. With the limitations (and short sidedness) of the age, all of my classmates said no, never ever. Even then that seemed crazy, because technology was already making huge leaps and bounds. We don't come in the world with anything but basic processes, just like your average computer. We're then "programmed" to know and do other things (use a toilet, feed ourselves, calculus, painting, etc). True, our brains are MEGA processors even compared to the technology of today, but a little over 20 years later and people are already losing jobs to the AI we have.

Most people don't realize it....the sketchy s**t - private entities are buying peatlands areas and destroying them on massive scales. Also, global south countries who have major peatlands are inclined to say, "f**k you" to "developed" countries who are trying to convince them to not build/develop/mine...etc on these lands. I saw this growing up in Southern Alberta. When I was a kid there were wetlands everywhere. Any farmer's field with a depressed area held water and trees and there were extensive wetlands near most of the rivers. Now that's all gone. it's all been filled and ripped out to maximize production. The only protected areas left are those near the cities and towns, while rural areas are endless monoculture farmland. If farmers grow pollinated crops, they bring in bee hive companies now because there are no wild pollinators left alive. Carbon sinking? What's that? Now excuse me while I BURN 1000kg of plastic that I used to cover last year's hay silage

Since the Joseph Fritzl case years ago it horrifies me that there's likely so many similar cases where they'll never be caught and the victim will never be free.

Animal disease and sickness are spreading more frequently and easier between humans and vegetation. The links below will not help prove what I'm saying entirely, I'm working on finding the links about these various cases. I was seeing these reports late 2021 early 2022, but basically animals were getting sick (Africa & Asia) and they would die or defecate near plant life and their diseases would be taken in, and passed along to people through food. It was debated that this could be happening due to global warming as viruses, plants, animals slowly adapt and change due to the climate crisis making the exchange of disease easier to pass.

It's sad. Basically buying a baby if you have the funds. Even 15 years ago I spoke with a couple trying to conceive, and the amount that was being asked to adopt an infant was absurd.

Can confirm. My wife and I adopted our son long ago. One of the shiftier agencies we started with promised a couple a "baby by December" if they paid them enough. (This was in September). We pretty much walked out the door and found someplace else that was more reputable.

The alarming amount of bodies they are finding in Lake Ladybird in Austin Texas. People know about it but the media doesn’t shine too much light on it as much as they should. There’s a f*****g serial killer or something out there just getting rid of bodies of males in that lake. Also the amount of people that are getting drugged or roofied at the bars in downtown. There’s some seriously wild s**t going down.

Perfect example of how social media creates false dramas and scares people through rumours. There was a number of deaths in 2022/23, but foul play was ruled out by police in them, and there was no evidence of any trauma having occurred. Quick Google search and reading news articles shows police believed the issue was more to do with the large number of bars in the close vicinity, and how easy it is to access the lake.

We had the same rumors in my town (Caen, France). Young men found dead in the Marina. "Must be a serial killer targeting students". Or... Must be that there is a couple of bars packed with students from thursday (students night in France) to sunday morning right on the other side of the road. Instead of hunting a killer, rails were installed to prevent drunk men to fall into the Marina while peeing into the water. Also camera to send help to drunk people doing dangerous stuff in this area.

We have a case like that in France near a river. An unprotected body of water ? Close to bars ? Mostly male "victims" ? Drunk guy fell in the water and drowned. Sad, but end of the story. It would make a great hiding spot for a serial killer though :p

Dead bodies have been turning up in Boston Harbor for over a decade. Mostly white, single, college-age males. We've got a serial killer at work here, too. But the Media keeps covering it up as "accidents on the pier".

REITS and foreign buyers/investors are doing the same thing to Canada. And developers are in on it. In places where they are required by law to build a percentage of their properties as affordable housing, they just refuse to build affordable and pay the fine instead. And politicians don't do anything because property values go up and they all own at least 2 houses.

For decades China has been future-proofing itself by acquiring food, water and energy resources around the world. Soy in South America. Minerals in Africa. Fishing rights in the South Pacific. Anyone who has conducted large-scale business with China knows that it is near impossible to get capital out of China. There doesn't seem to be any shortage of money when it comes to foreign food, water and energy, however.

However, all that food and tech isn't going to save them when their population starts to shrink due to a low birth rate. Even though the one-child policy has long since been dropped, too few new Chinese are being born. Also, even if they acquire new sources overseas, that stuff has to get to China in the first place.
