“In a parallel universe this art installation would be forbidden”

We live in a world where consuming is more substantial than reusing. On a worldwide scale, we produce 11 trillion kilos of trash per year, while 90% of the plastic can not be recycled. Yet, we produce and consume more and more without thinking the concequenses of our behaviour. We are all addicted and trapped in a modern way of living where symptoms used to be hidden. Not any more… Traces is a 100 square meters art installation made with 500 plastic trash bags at X-lane Berlin. During the exhibition of GraphicDays#14 The Krank presented a bold and poetic art piece, which addresses one of the most important issues of modern civilization, illustrating the increasing volume of waste.

Traces

The Krank is the signature of the anonymous visual artist (b. 1988, Greece) who lives and creates between Athens and Berlin. His artistic journey began in 2002 through graffiti, painting in the urban environment and redefined in 2009 after his studies in fine and applied arts. In 2013 he left Athens and reintroduced himself as The Krank, which in German means “sick”. Since then, he is expressing his worldview though the creation of stringent black-and-white paintings, sculptures, large scale murals and art installations.

Vėjūnė is a community manager who helps artists all over the world introduce their artwork to Bored Panda readers and in that way, become more popular. Since she was always fascinated by the art world, she studied Culture Management and Cultural Policy at Vilnius Academy of Arts where she expanded her knowledge about it. Now she's using all this knowledge to showcase its beauty and help others dive into the fascinating world of art.
