50 Times Travelers Were Shocked, Amused, Or Amazed In Other Countries (New Pics)
Interview With ExpertTraveling isn't just about taking a break from work and spending your money on comfortable accommodations; although nice and often necessary for our burnt-out bodies and minds, these luxuries are only part of the essence, which lies in exploring new places, meeting interesting people, and opening up to unfamiliar experiences.
To show you how much these things can broaden our understanding of the world, we at Bored Panda collected a bunch of unforgettable moments tourists shared online from their international journeys. From innovative uses of communal spaces to unorthodox transportation solutions, sometimes you don't even know what's possible until you see it.

The German Circus Uses Huge 3D Holograms Instead Of Live Animals
I have seen a similar live show, and it is really underwhelming. It's just projections on a transparent curtain. The novelty vanishes fast.
I mean, you can see the projections for the other sides of the auditorium and that they are exactly that. The title stating "huge 3D holograms" is pure bullshít.
Load More Replies...Just saw the Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus and it was fantastic! Amazing and interesting acts and instead of animals they had a dancing robotic dog. :)
Mostly only in circuses or Zoos they can live. Hologram canť substitute life.
The circus's time is past. There is very little they can show us that we haven't seen better and more educationally on tv or the internet
Splurged On A Hotel In Patagonia
Is it possible to live there in that hotel room forever? That view is beyond remarkable.
Whenever we embark on a new trip, we can get so excited that we forget about the people around us. But as we check destinations off our bucket list, it's important to remain mindful of others—especially on planes, where passengers can quickly get on one another's nerves.
But "generally, as long as people act normally and leave each other alone, they don’t affect the flight experience much at all," Lisa Stentvedt, the woman behind Fjords & Beaches, a travel blog dedicated to everyone who refuses to stop exploring, told Bored Panda.
"All it takes is a smile and polite conversation to improve it, or a pair of bare feet on your armrest to detract from it."
There Is A Mini Rijksmuseum In The Amsterdam Airport To View Paintings While You Wait For Your Flight
I'd miss my flight because I would just get distracted by the museum
There isn't a kids' section. It's just a room with a collection of about 20 paintings. And the Rijksmuseum doesn't have a science station; it's an art gallery.

A Cheese Vending Machine In A Mountain Village In Switzerland
Fondue mix, Raclette Cheese (and Pickles to go with) and other dairy products. I could eat some Raclette right now...pretty cold (and snowing).

Out of all the annoying things, "What I experience the most is people who forget that the seat in front of them actually has another passenger in it," Lisa said.
"Too many people use the seat in front of them to pull themselves out of their own seat (instead of the armrest), aggressively tap their video screen to change their movie, or even lean on the seat when getting into their own. All of these actions disturb the person sitting in that seat and can be really annoying."

My Bubble Hotel Room In Petra, Jordan. At Night, You Could See All The Stars In The Sky

I Rode On A Boat, On A Lake, In A Cave
I remember going there as a kid. Nobody else ever heard of it where I lived. About 10 years sgo, my friend randomly says he remembered going there as a kid too, and was making a trip back.
Load More Replies...I did that in Czech, Punkva Cave. Cave trecking deep down, got into a boar on a river, through a lake and ended up outside.
Thank you so much for telling me the name!!! I went there on a school trip in 1997 and I loved this tour but couldn’t remember where it was for the life of me. I knew it was near Brno. Thank you!
Load More Replies...The Lost Sea Adventure, Sweetwater TN USA, done it twice, love it!!
There's boat rides on the Green River that goes through Mammoth Cave.
And as tricky as flights can be, Lisa of Fjords & Beaches tries to avoid open conflict whenever possible. "I would personally never bother the crew for anything that isn't an actual violation of safety or airline protocols," she said. "If someone smells bad, for example, that's not something the stewards can do anything about. Nor is it against airline policy, as far as I am aware." So, be empathetic, stick to your boundaries, and when you land, you will (hopefully) be in a good enough mood to make the best of your journey.

This Supermarket In An Old Theatre In Venice, Italy
DESPAR Teatro Italia in Venice. Opened in 2016 in a building protected by the "Belle Arti". The owner is the Coìn family, owners of a large chain of fashion stores. It was an interesting operation, because it was not the usual "commercialization" of a cultural space. The store was opened as a way to finance the preservation of the building, that was severely degraded and close to collapse. The family bought the place and in order to make it financially sustainable spent 5 million euro in the renovation, and designed the store around the preservation requirements.
The family already made similar operations in other Renaissance and Liberty buildings as part of their corporate social responsibility campaigns, working in close contact with the Belle Arti Superintendence to save dilapidated historical buildings, limiting the commercial exploitation (this photo does not really show how the shelves are lower and smaller than average to allow looking at the fresco walls).
Load More Replies...@elijo sintetico the problem with these buildings is that they are old, interesting and historical, but not in an outstanding way. If this building was in, let's say, Akron (Ohio) it would have been a major landmark and the most prized touristic spot in the county. But, this is in Venice, literally surrounded by a thousand older, more important or better preserved buildings! There is a point where preserving it is important, but resources are finite and are used up by more important projects. This approach if done right allows to make preservation self-sustaining, and in a future where the building is ready to host some higher endeavor it's a quick job to remove the shelves and convert it back to museum, university etc.
Venice really impressed me. We were there this week for a few days. I've travelled a lot and found many places overhyped (not a fan of Paris), but from the moment we got off the train in Venice it was like WOW! ... and then 5 minutes later someone tried to scam my husband ahahaha

Barrier-Free Access To The Sea For Wheelchair Users In Zadar, Croatia
I love how much more accessible place are than they used to be. If it wasn't usually so cold in the water, my little brother would have loved this. I know there are some beaches in Australia that have ramps along the beach now, but I haven't seen in my state yet. Most swimming pools will have at least one pool that has either a ramp or a lift for people with a disability though. Both my brothers loved the pool, because they could get better range of movement.
This is cool, but since I haven't seen this around me, how does it actually work. The water looks kinda deep right there for being in a sit down position. The kids are about to be at the waist. Would you wheel down in there to feel the water, but not do to the end of the path or is there special chairs for water? If multiple people had wheel chairs...... Is there enough room at the end of the path for a few people to chill?
We have similar in many swedish lakes. They need some maintance to not get super slippery though.
The Pew Research Center examined the travel habits of people from 24 countries. The data showed that the share of those who have traveled abroad ranges from a low of 3% in India to more than 99% in Sweden and the Netherlands.

Stumbled Across This Cemetery In Kyoto During A Festival Tonight. All The Lanterns Were Candle Lit And It Was Stunning
Without wandering, without a plan and getting lost you miss out on opportunities like this.
Some of my best memories in Europe were unplanned, no tour guide/group and absolutely wonderful!
Unplanned wanderings are the best things to do anywhere even at home. We went to Gettysburg for the weekend with nothing specific planned. There was a billboard for Mister Ed's Elephant Museum and Candy Emporium and I was like YES WE MUST GO!!! Then we drove into the mountains/woods of rural PA for what seemed like 45 minutes and I was really getting scared we were driving into some kind of murder cabal to trap stupid tourists but we found it eventually! Thousands of figurines/statues/plush elephants, really unique outdoor walk through paths and decorations, an entire room of PEZ and shitloads of candy. I think it's the best place I've ever stumbled upon.
Load More Replies...This will be me next week in Tunisia. I have literally zero plans and only a small idea of what's going to be around me.
I had the chance to visit Kyoto last year. It's an amazing place to just wander around, both within the city as well as in the hills and forests surrounding it. I accidentally went hiking after visiting Okochi Sanso Daijokaku and wandered Mount Ogura, meeting some old Japanese dude randomly playing the flute on a little clearing in the woods. It's exactly as they say above, if I hadn't just wandered off without a plan, if I wouldn't have been curious where this little path leads, I would never have made that experience. Those moments are one of the best things I'm living for.
My Hotel Room Is Under Water
Key Largo has an underwater hotel as well. Not sure it's as nice as this one
I would love to visit this hotel, never going to happen so I have a projector thingy that turns my room into the ocean.
No way. I would not sleep a wink >.< What if the glass cracked or leaked?!
You know, up until a couple of years ago I would have said: “Don’t be ridiculous, that doesn’t happen, they know how to build these things” but then that massive big tank in that hotel in Berlin broke back in 2022 - and as far as I know, we’ve still never really been told why. They installed one in the movie theatre where I used to work (three floors). It comes with red and green lights to ensure long enough intervals between individual rides.
They had a slide like that at the park in Boise when I was a kid, only it was outside. I’d be scared to go down because I was little, but I’d go anyway because it was awesome. Then I’d get my legs flame-broiled on a hot day, and shoot out the end at warp speed and get bruises on my rear. I’m a bit salty they tore it down years ago, but honestly it wouldn’t surprise me if someone fell off the upper level and got badly hurt.
Saw that a couple years ago when visiting Berlin. Didn't go down it but it looked fun.
In the U.S., somebody would get hurt doing something stupid or skin their knees and sue the mall for millions of $$$. They couldn't win but the mall would settle for $100k just to stay out of court.
There are large differences by region, with Europeans being the most likely to have traveled to a country other than their own: about two-thirds or more in every nation on the Old Continent surveyed have traveled abroad. By contrast, roughly a third or fewer people from India, Indonesia, and the Latin American and African nations surveyed have done the same.

You monster! You're probably the reason when they will rise against us....
dont let it fool you. when i was a child (in the 90s) my father brought to a store, i have no idea what it was, but we walked to the back. in the back was an old chinese lady. she had me sit down and gave me green tea. i drank it. she said "you like" i said yes, so she poured more. i drank it, she asked me again "you liked it?" i said yes, but i dont want more. so she goes "oh you dont like?!" and im like no no i do, so she poured another cup. this went on for about 8 or so cups. by then i really needed to pee, but she just kept pouring green tea. she looked so sad every time i didnt want more that i just gave in. by the end it started to feel like i was ashton kutcher in dude wheres my car when he's ordering chinese food.

Load More Replies...While the physical size of the country or the region someone is from may play some role in people's travels, it is not the only explanation. Economic factors are also important.
Higher-income countries have much higher rates of international visits. For example, Sweden and the Netherlands are among the richest nations surveyed, and in both places, nearly all respondents said they had traveled to another country.
The country that departs from this pattern is the US. While it's at the top of the countries surveyed in terms of gross domestic product per capita, about half of the nations had higher rates of international travel.

This Bicycle Shop In Copenhagen Will Rent You A Bike Without A Rental Company Logo, So That You Look Like A Local And Not A Tourist
When living in Amsterdam I was glad they had logos. Why feel ashamed of "looking like a tourist"? It indicates that you most likely are not familiar with your surroundings, local traffic rules and probably the art of cycling. So people know to give you room.

Mario Kart Tour That I Encountered At The Famous Shibuya Crossing
This company (MariCart) was sued by Nintendo and shut down on IP infringement charges. It later changed name to Street Kart Tour, and is -at least formally- discouraging conflating the tour with the game company. They are now forbidden to use suits and costumes of IP protected characters. What they don't tell you is that is extremely dangerous. According to several sources, in 2018 -before temporarily closing for Covid- they had 50 go-kart accidents over 11 months. Drivers are held liable for damages in case of any accident.
You will be driving a tiny, unprotected, no helmet lightweight vehicle in traffic, with your face at car-exhaust-level, with only subpar seatbelts, no direction lights, no muffler. These people are universally considered a nuisance, and a danger to themselves, pedestrians and other traffic; local drivers would on purpose act dangerously in revenge when driving close to the tours.

One time I stopped to get a pumpkin to use for target practice. The guy there filled up my back seat and trunk for $10. It was a wild weekend.
Honesty boxes like that are fairly common in Australia, though most have security cameras these days. A few also have card readers now too. There is one between my place and a town about 40mis away that I'm going to on Saturday, so I will probably load up on stuff on the way home.

These In-Ground Trampolines At A Berlin Park
Nice, but it might be cool to add some padding around the trampolines, just in case
I've seen a few of these in recent years. Because they are in ground the springs are covered which is safer, and they can't bounce as high as normal ones.

I actually like trying McDonald's in different countries to see the different foods they have. And some of them are pretty good. Based on this pic, I'd love to try the McBaguette
McBaguette isn't always available in France. And it's... not good. If one day you come here, just eat a sandwich with real baguette... Not this ^-^
