There are thousands of different little ways for us to make our lives feel a tiny bit more interesting and special. Back in the good old days of childhood, we didn’t even have to think about those things—they used to come to us naturally. Each day, the world around us seemed vast and full of pure magic. Fast forward to now, well, a lot has changed. But I wholeheartedly believe that growing up absolutely doesn’t mean that we should stop playing and having fun.

And as I mentioned before, there are thousands of ways for us to do that. For instance, one of my friends likes to leave sweet little notes between the pages of library books, so the next person reading the book will find it and it will possibly make their day. For her, it makes the world feel more exciting and mysterious. Why am I suddenly talking about this? Well, there’s this video on TikTok that recently went viral and it immediately reminded me of this whole making-your-life-feel-a-tiny-bit-more-special thing.

In the video, a guy named Alex Biron explains why he always leaves a key under his doormat, in a very obvious place. The video has gone viral and it currently has 15.5 million views and over 4 million likes as well as over 20 thousand comments.

The idea for the TikTok came to me randomly while I was standing in my driveway. I wanted to pack mystery and inspiration into a real world TikTok,” Alex told Bored Panda.

“This is a key. It goes under my welcome mat in a very obvious place. Alex, why would you do that? Isn’t somebody going to break into your house? Well, actually, there are a lot of break-ins in this area. And every 6 months to a year, I’ll notice that the key is missing, which means people are trying,” the guy explains in the video.

“But here’s a thing. It’s not the key to my house. It doesn’t unlock anything around here,” Alex explains in the video

“But here’s a thing. It’s not the key to my house. It doesn’t unlock anything around here. The reason I put it down there is that… If a robber finds that key, there’s gonna be this moment in between the joy he feels thinking he’s about to get in, to the disappointment realizing it doesn’t… And I hope there’ll be a moment of reflection there, where he’ll think ‘what am I doing with my life?’ And maybe he’ll change,” Alex continues.

“You’re probably also wondering, what is that key? I’ll tell you. If any of you robbers are seeing this TikTok, look at the number on that key. It unlocks a safe deposit box at the West End Vancity bank in Vancouver, and in that safety box, we’ve got some money, we’ve got a self-help book, and a chance for you to start a new life. Good luck!” Alex says in the video.

“I think it’s unlikely that someone will actually use the key but I plan to make a scavenger hunt soon with different treasures that people can find!” Alex told us.

We were curious to ask Alex how he felt about his TikTok going viral. “It was amazing to go viral yesterday because today is my birthday! I couldn’t have asked for a better present,” the man expressed his excitement.

We also asked Alex to tell our readers a little bit about himself. “I’m just a regular dude who loves skateboarding and hanging out with friends,” the guy told us. “I decided to post on TikTok because I noticed a lot of people were making fun of it, and usually what people make fun of is the next big thing! Also, I was stuck at home during lockdown.”

If a robber finds that key, there’s gonna be this moment in between the joy he feels thinking he’s about to get in, to the disappointment realizing it doesn’t… and he then bricks your windows in frustration!

I agree... I think the hope for a self-reflection moment might be wishful thinking...

Now he told ever robber out there (Robbers do have tik tok too or they have bored panda) so now when they go to his house there gonna go through a window ... what the man is thinking is kinda a hope wish cause maybe the robber has a rush from getting into others house he ain't thinking about anything about how others feel or about his future.

Or try to figure out how to rob the safe deposit box at West End Vancity Bank in Vancouver. But only after breaking a window to get in and ransacking his house while robbing him blind. A better idea is to adopt a couple very large and protective dogs whose barks are very deep, loud, and intimidating—-but only to people looking and/or acting suspiciously (like trying to break in).

Am I the only person that thinks he’s an idiot? Respect the mindset, but why?

That's privilege... not knowing how desperate someone can be in times of struggle, to the point where human decency is no longer an option. Every person deserves a chance, but not everyone makes it
