Experts believe that the quality you can find at traditional thrift stores appears to be declining.
"If you go to a local Goodwill, you will see a lot of fast fashion there, sometimes with the tags still on," Nicole Craig, a professor who teaches merchandising, trends, buying, and more at Arizona State University FIDM, told Business Insider.
"But at the same time, we're also seeing thrifting and resale exploding in the market."
Someone Has A Sense Of Humor
There's a bakery in SW Seattle called "3.14 Bakery", and yes the sell mostly pies.
My husband and I sell rocks and minerals at different shows, and we got hold of slabs of a stone called autograph stone, alternatively known as the Devil's toenails due to curved fossilized shells embedded in it. We sold out when we priced them at $6.66.

My Prize While Antiquing: This One Is In Perfect Condition And An Absolute Rare Find, I Cried A Bit
Made in 1997, and found while "antiquing." Well now I feel old.
An antique has to be over 100 years old to be called an antique, so this is not an antique.

While an abundance of fast fashion is partly to blame for the decline in quality at thrift stores, the explosive growth of the resale clothing market over the past decade —especially in the last five years — has also played a big role.
The value of the global secondhand clothing market is expected to reach $350 billion by 2027, according to a 2023 report by ThredUp, an online marketplace for used clothing.

Wonderful, realistic and they look so happy. Glad you brought them both home so they can continue laughing together forever
I would like a retelling of The Indian in the Cupboard with these two ladies!
I bought my sister one of these laughing statues as a gift. They were in an art gallery thats not too far, here in ohio. They are absolutely lovely and the attention to detail is amazing. Their clothes even had texture to them. And their laughing expressions made me want to laugh too!

Part of why buying used clothing has never been more popular is Generation Z.
In the past, Millennials tended to appreciate uniformity and with that, new goods. Think Abercrombie & Fitch in its original heyday around the 2000s.
However, Gen Z is more focused on individuality and finding pieces that are different from what everyone else is wearing.
Found At Goodwill
I love that our idea of home furnishing/decorating has gone from collector plates and hand-painted ceramic knick knacks from Royal Dalton to stuff like this! This makes me laugh and smile when I see it, future generations will shake their head And that's perfectly okay

Is this the one that always lies, or is this the one that always tells the truth? [/Labyrinth]
That's the jokers, not the knockers. The jokers have one head at the top of their wooden card and one at the bottom and feet and hands around them. The knocker Sarah chooses leads her to the woods and eventually to the Viennese ballroom in the crystal ball. The joker she chooses drops her into the well of hands that Sarah eventually asks to let her down, mirroring the hero's journey to the underworld. Sarah ends up in an oubliette that Hoggle has to save her from. The path eventually leads to the famous scene of the Bowie Bulge.

Gen Z has also embraced secondhand as a means to help the environment. The ThredUp report showed that sustainability was among the top five motivators for Gen Z when it comes to how they acquire apparel.
When secondhand shoppers feel like they're saving something from ending up in a landfill, buying used clothing is no longer viewed as inferior to buying new.
Thrifting today is "not only not a stigma," Craig said, "it's a badge of honor."
I Finally Saw One In Person! Mom Was A Little Startled Though
I saw one of those in a shop once! Later on I found a pendant-sized version, which I bought. Damn, I should wear that one again. You can even use it as a little mirror! The inscription on the frame, by the way, says something like "time changes all, and we with it".
I have the pendant too, bought it during my gothic years. No idea where it is, though 🫤

"It's not designed and constructed to last," Elena Karpova, a professor at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro who researches sustainability in the apparel market, told about fast fashion to Business Insider.
"And so after a couple of washes, usually either fabric or construction, like seams and stitches, fall apart, and people then discard it or donate it."

Some fast fashion pieces are so inexpensive that shoppers won't bother returning the ones that don't fit. As a result, piles of fast fashion get dumped in donation bins with their original tags still attached.
Prices at thrift stores have also been rising, partly because some people are reselling their "thrift hauls" at a premium on platforms like Poshmark and Depop.
These sellers have been branded as "scammers" by some on social media and compared to landlords who drive up rents and force people out of affordable housing. One could even call it "the gentrification of thrift stores."

People who still prefer the experience of shopping in person and stumbling across a surprise score are increasingly turning to curated vintage shops. Craig said many of her students who thrift weekly "prefer to go to some of these more curated thrift stores where it's a little bit nicer, it's a little bit more of a point of view." So as time goes on, gems like the ones we see in the pictures can become rarer and rarer. Let's enjoy them while it lasts!

I miss full service, sit down Pizza Hut... it was actually a good restaurant. Service was decent, beer on tap, good pasta and other menu items too, and the salad/sundae bar will forever remain a key memory of my childhood.
I'm from South Africa and my dad's friend owned a pizza hut franchise when I was younger. Gosh it always felt like fine dining for me. The carpet , the booths, the lighting. It was all amazing.
The old pizza hut is partially responsible for my passion for reading. The BookIt! program was the only way we could have pizza because we could not afford to buy it, so I read everything I could get my hands on. That habit as a very young child has only intensified as I have grown and been exposed to an ever-expanding world.
When I was a young single Mom, my son & I lived in a crappy little apartment. I tried to make it a comfy home with the help of Goodwill, Sears Surplus and St. Vinnie's. I found a !Cinzano! outdoor umbrella on the side of the road. I used wire to attach it to our dining room light fixture (the light shone down the middle). We had 4 director's chairs in mustard yellow and a white wire mesh table. One of the coolest rooms I've ever made.
I loved Pizza Hut - they had the best salad bar in town! They were bought out several years ago and I miss them.
I need this. When we are thrifting we always buy thoses cola glasses in the same style

Worked for my wife and I. Awkwardness isn’t the problem. It’s the confidence to approach and have an awkward moment, conversation, or whatever. So go out and ask your romantic interest out to join you at a far to go turnip picking together. Theirs nothing quite as romantic as digging into the soil together. Or just invite them out for coffee or a beer or whatever. Honestly, once I realized no one would think less of me for asking or talking to random people I wanted to get to know my life got way easier.

Bellissimo. I say Bellissimo, like I am an Italian film director from the 50's, with perfect taste and a fantastic cappuccino machine, I inherited from my ex-wife's mother-in-law, Sylvia from Naples. (if this makes no sense, try not reading the comments or just take a nice vacation to Italy. It's bellissimo).
I mostly just but instruments at those places. Got a really nice guitar once from 1972, which I gifted to a friend. Got a busted up violin which I fixed and sold for about what I paid for it. Clearly, I'm not in it for the money 😆
I went to the Salvation Army thrift store couple months ago. Found a unicorn onesie and got all excited. You can order them all day long on Amazon, but they're either for really tall people or small children. This one actually fit! The woman at the store thought I was crazy for trying it on at the store. I brought it home and washed it and it's now hanging in my closet, waiting on special occasions like Halloween. We also do a "pajamajam" thing at the local brewery in February that I may wear it to.
