My Cats Adopted A 3-Legged Puppy Whose Mom Tried To Eat Him (UPDATE)

I am sorry to have taken so long to do an update (previous article here), but I have been really busy. I read some comments and it is amazing to see that the vast majority are really positive.

It is great to see that there’s people who cares and goes to great lengths to give a better future to another living being. I understand the perspective of some that I should not have saved my puppy and I must say it was a lot of work, still is (puppies are not particularly calm), I had to make my life work somehow in 3 hour frames it was unthinkable for him to loose a meal, I slept very little, I lived with massive headaches for 2 weeks, it was really complicated to make all my activities and fulfill my responsibilities it was hectic and an absolute mess and I would do it all over again!

The once tiny pup without a paw and a future is one of the best things I have and he will always own a piece of my heart.

How could I not love him?

3am was a perfectly reasonable hour to play

Heavy sleeper

One of the best days EVER! Moving to solids was a real life saver

They were around the same size

Full belly

How he managed to take down that many clothes I’ll never know.. probably with the kittens help

Just another kitten

His options were very limited with me not eating meat

But he likes fruits to this day!

She’ll always be his mum

They totally look alike

The once tiny pup without a paw and a future is one of the best things I have

He will always own a piece of my heart

It is all very sweet, I love how this person took the time and effort to save this pup who royally would have also died,it takes a special someone to take up such a challenge. However the fruit picture threw me off a little, I think dogs and all carnivorous / omnivorous animals are meant to eat meat and I do hope you supply you animals with necessary nutrients and don't force them to eat along your chosen human diet.

Hi all! Many thanks for all your nice comments and your concerns, but I think it is pretty obvious that he was fed the proper diet, from baby dog formula to dry kibble, otherwise he would't be here. I can choose what I eat and I make the necessary adjustments to feel good, but I wouldn't do that to an animal, they have their needs and I have mine. He loves fruits and veggies though :) IMG_0914.jpg IMG_0914.jpg

feed that dog it's correct diet. just because you can survive without meat doesn't mean he can. i hope it's just improper wording on your part. there's nothing worse than a vegan that puts their animal at risk because if their stupid agenda.

Relax, critics behind a screen, the woman is referring to the dog's interest in HER food. She even says that he still eats fruit, implying he eats his own food otherwise. But I'm sure you want to remain outraged and judgy, so carry on.

Having hand raising a kitten a mother cat abandoned I know the care required. Named her Precious. Her eyes hadn't even opened yet and our vet advised she would probably not live without her mother since she was so young. I was determined to take care of her. Feeding every 3 hrs, bathing private parts with warm water and cotton balls to facilitate urinating and defecating, having to learn what was needed to be a "mother" to her, having to take her to work with me so I could care for her. With a lot of care and love she thrived and survived. Precious died of a ripe old age of twenty. So GOD BLESS YOU for taking that dear furbaby and giving him the care and love he needs to live! Of course you have plenty of helpers too!

Don't know who would have suggested on putting the puppy down but I believe all life deserves a chance to live a happy life. I too am curious about the Momma pup. I do know that no matter the breed, females sometimes kill their young ... thinking maybe she should not have anymore pups. God bless

Relaaaaax people!!! the fruit was a TREAT, and he gets ALL THE NUTRIENTS AND FATS he needs probably from the solid DOGGIE FOOD she feeds him (you know...food made especially for dogs...i bet it was for growing puppies as well). Jeez, how people love to criticize, pay attention before judging. Thumbs up for taking care of this adorable puppy ^^

How big will he ultimately get? Please update pics when he's full-grown. I get why ppl say you should have let nature take its toll but we're only human, with feelings, and empathy, and you did a very compassionate

I love it! I personally DON'T understand any perspective thinking that you should not have saved the pup. You did a good, loving thing. Love is what makes the world go round, not analytics.

I think she meant his options were limited as far as what people food he can get from her; not limited as to what she will give him for his diet. There is a picture where he is clearly eating kibble. Kudos to you mom for opening your heart and taking on the huge responsibility of caring for him. He is your dog and if you want to feed him a piece of fruit, you go right ahead.

I noticed that when he started eating solids that he ate kibble but you have him f4uit for a snack. That's great I had a cat that ate cat food but would occasionally eat green beans and carrots.

OMGosh I love this story of rescue, love and tenderness so much. Thank you for saving this tiny fur baby. All of God's creatures can feel, hurt and get depressed. Having your mom eat you is horrible! I just love the pics of this baby sleeping on his back and the way the cats cuddle and groom him. Such love, Wow. On one of the pics he looks like he is smiling... I was rubbing my own little Chihuahua's tummy this morning and she was smiling... What a way to start the day. Just a word to the wise... if those were lemons in the fruit bowl please be advised that lemons can and does eat the enamel off your teeth and enamel will not restore itself. Thank you for your kindness and for sharing this awesome story. :)

He is beautiful and adorable and this lady did absolutely the right thing Good for her! He should however be given meat. Dogs are carnivores and they need animal protein.

this is just lovely! bless you. My ex and I also saved a 3 legged pup, saw her on the local news and adopted her that day. she was missing the back right leg at the 'knee'. and we are the parents of Jack, the 1-eyed kitty on this site. it takes a special person to take on these challenges, but it's SO worth it. kudos!

Lovely that you recued him, BUT: particularly for this early phase of development he, he MUST eat lots of protein and fat. Without it, his development will be significantly stunted. Please don't think there's anything sweet or noble about a vegan puppy. You will harm him by forcing your human diet on him!
